I took the exam in MELBOURNE.In paper one there were some questions from
1000 MCQS.Most of the Saqs were from Endodontics.Regarding paper 2 most were general questions.I don't know how others feel.All together the paper can't be termed either as an easy paper nor a difficult one.It depends on the individual & how well prepared he/she is.Waiting for the exam results.I am not posting any questions here as it may violate copy rights.I am waiting for drill & other members to advise me on that.I think saqs are the same in most centres.

hi drill,
i hope you and all those who have taken the exam have done very well.you will all pass this exam in flying colours.
pls tell us about your exam experience. what kind of questions were asked and also devise a plan so that members can write the questions to each other, while the copywrite issue is taken care of.
i think the saqs which are few can be sent to someones e-mail address and then distributed by that person.

Hello everyone.

I just wrote the above exam in Brisbane. Obviously can't post questions here because of copyright, but I can recommend the following:

1. Most of the questions in Paper 1 were from 1000 MCQs.
2. Paper 1A - SAQ - very vague and general.
3. Paper 2 - only a few questions from 1000 MCQs - many questions were new, and I could tell that they were from a new book - ADA Clinical Guidelines - published in 2007 - purple book with a clown on the cover - I think this book is a must for the preliminary exams.

I will also appreciate is if someone can email me Cawson's MCQs and Boucher's MCQs - please - to [email protected].

A big hello to everbody and would like to thank all the members who have helped unselfishly in this forum.
I had appeared for preliminary exam this march and I experienced that mcq 1 had plenty of questions from the past 1060 mcq paper. For the saq it was basically general stuff which is encountered in the general practice I felt that there was not sufficient time for 3 questions and I am not a fast writer.

Lets see how things work 😎

I'm takin up OET next week. You have any tips for oet? Even the smallest of detail wud help.

In general OEt is a reasonable exam so don't worry if you have good basic in English.
just be careful about the reading subtest, the articles usually are easy to understand but the questions are very tricky so try to read the questions and given options very carefully.
In speaking be confident and answer whatever u know and ignore the dentistry knowledge if you cant manage.
In listening just be fast otherwise its really reasonable and fair.

I think this book "clinical guide lines 2007" is not available in sfot copy and we all have to buy it. you can check in medical stores or order online on web site like amazon.com. This is just my suggestion as I don't have any personal experiance of buying books on the net. I always buy actual hrad copies from real book shops.

These are a few guide lines for you regarding OET speaking test.
Officially,you will get five minutes to read the role play cards before you strat the test. But you will be able to read it even just in 2 or 3 minutes. The exminer will always ask you if you are ready or not and if you are not , you can ask for a minute again. The envirnoment is very relaxing but you have to be confidant and just think that you are actually dealing with the patient in a clinic or hospital and you are in authority (not the exminer). By acting like an actual doctor and not like an exam candidate, you will look more confident to the examiner.
Don't concentrate much on the medical aspect of the test e.g. correct history and diagnosis and treatment etc. as the exminer is not a dentist. Try to concentrate on fluency, accent, grammer and vocabulary. Keep talking.

Hi,
The ADA guidelines is the "oral and therapeutic guidelines" version 1. You can go the ADA website and order it. I think the costs are different for ADA and non ADA members.

Hi, This is what I have to say regarding OET.

For letter writing :- Please follow a good format. Choose the format which you can remember and follow and Remember - you can use medical terms here as you are refering to a fellow dentist. You can do rough work if you want to and decide what you have to include or exclude. Please write legibly too

For speaking :- There are 2 excercises for speaking in the exam. And each time it is a different case. Please don't forget to say "Hello or good morning or good afternoon (which ever you think is appropriate) and How are you doing today".

For reading :- Please practice as many articles as possible from the study materials. In my opinion reading is the toughest. The choices are never straight forward. You have to infer and assimilate details of what you have read in a paragraph. when i wrote the exam, there was a question " what is Demography". But the answer was not given in the entire article.

For listening : - Practise as many listening excercises as possible. you have 2 excercises for this too. One of them is simple and you get time to write while the second one you have to be really really quick.

hi

one would know about the exact dates only before one month of the exam.it is generally conducted during the first n second week of the month.

so, is it really important and worth buying?

Forget about Cawsons MCQs - they are totally outdated. The 1060MCQs are much more important.

The Therapeutic Guidelines are a source of many new MCQs and you need to know them for the final exam.

I also recommend "Master Dentistry Vol. 1&2".

But all this is your choice of course...
