What do you not like about Masonic?

I did my medicine sub-i there, it was a pretty decent place. It's a nice community hospital in a great Chicago neighborhood (Lincoln Park). The medicine department had solid academics, although is mostly populated with American FMGs. The physical environment of the hospital isn't bad at all. Call rooms are not cushy, but comfortable. People are friendly there. Ancillary staff do their jobs. Students rotating through surgery liked the teaching there, although often remarked the attendings can be pretty demanding. I met one of the anesthesia prelims (will be a CA-1 next year). He seemed to like the program, and taught me a bit about preparing to apply to anesthesiology residencies. Unfortunately, that's all I know of the anesthesia residency at Masonic. I didn't apply there.

I know they offer 2 PGY-1 spots through the Match. However, they offer all 8 PGY-2 spots outside of the Match. Are the residents mostly FMG's or american grads? How's the teaching?

One way they fill the other spots is if you're a DO and you do the osteopathic internship there. I'll be there on the 15th as well so you can PM me later. As far as the hospital itself, it is one of the nicest one's I've rotated through (didnt do anesth. there) and its in a great part of town (Lakeview). I've only dealth w/ medicine ppl and one anesthesia resident and they're all friendly
