has anyone here heard anything from uasom after their interview?

i interviewed a couple weeks ago, and still haven't heard anything. do they send out the first batch of acceptances after oct. 15?

for some reason, i remember dr. smith saying the turnaround could be quick in that some people could hear back the day after their interview. oh well, just curious to see if anyone knew anything.

best of luck to everyone.

I interviewed yesterday and Dr. Smith told us they send out acceptances once a month. However, I'm not sure what time of the month that is, so you may have to wait a couple more weeks.

Does anyone know if UAB uses email or snail mail for acceptances/rejections?

Upon further review, UAB's website indicates that they send out the first acceptances on Oct. 15 (today) and then once a month after that until March. However, I looked at last years Alabama posts, and the first group of regular decision applicants found out on Nov. 3rd. It was 5pm on a Friday (to let people calm down that weekend??) So if they do it the same way, I guess we can expect to hear something on Nov. 2.

There was talk at the interview of some applicants already receiving acceptances. Upon questioning, they seemed to suggest that the applicants were not EDP, but regular. So I am curious if they were just misinformed, or if a few acceptances trickle out before October 15th every year.

I thought the 4th/5th floors of Volker were amazing and the rest of the facilities were pretty cool.

lol... that's a euphemism. The "rest of the facilities" were designed as a labyrinth to trap the new medical students and applicants as the final test for acceptance. There were several times I encountered emaciated, pathetic wanderers about the halls. They begged for help, but since I am a gunner, I thought "I may have gone up a ranking!"

And that broken clock right near the stairs doesn't not do well for the reputation of our school.

(Note: Yes, it is true that the bottom floors of Volker Hall are confusing. And it is true that it looks relatively bad compared to the rest of the building. However, this has nothing to do with the quality of our education except that we occasionally get lost for weeks at a time down there. I would actually say that it has enhanced my education, as those scattered weeks of being sequestered in that mad maze have given me the most majestic moments of contemplation.)

hmmm. didn't hear anything today from uasom. i think their server updates every friday morning (that's when i received my interview invite), so i guess it could come friday morning?

did anyone ask about calling the admissions office? the waiting is killing me!

HA! You DID move up a spot, because I use the weakened, emaciated wanderers as snacks. The only thing sweeter than the taste of lost med-student BBQ is the taste of the tears of gunners when they get a 96 instead of a 98 on an exam whose class average was 74.

Please forgive my ignorance on the matter, but what exactly is a gunner? Are these the type of students who complain when they don't get a 100? Out of your 176 person class, how many would you say there are, and how annoying are they?

At their most extreme, they are the type of person who will do anything to push their classmates down and move themselves up. At least thats the idea that I've gathered from descriptions. I have yet to encounter any explicit gunners, really (but then again, I don't talk to many people 😛), but I imagine they're out there. Others (MS2/3/4s) may be able to tell you more stories.

Note: However, I must mention that during our presentations last week, there was one student brave enough to put on the Official Gunner's Tie. Endowed with the spirit of fallen gunners, he was able to give the most unintelligible yet intelligent-sounding presentation I have ever seen.

Have you tried the medical applicants who stink of fear? I find that the combination of their nervous sweat and frightened tears adds a bit more spice lacking in your run-of-the-mill gunner.

I received my interview invitation on a thursday, so it can't just be every friday. Also, my status changed from "in process" to "complete" on a monday.

I might call UASOM tomorrow and just ask what time of the month decisions are usually released.

If you do, post it here!

I don't know all the details about uasom's website updates, but last years class was notified on Friday afternoons. (according to this thread)

Yeah I definitely will, if I remember to call them.

That's good info about Fridays, hopefully that will prove true.

Yeah those are great. I like to wash it all down with Nutrition class approved homebrew, ftw!

I called UASOM today and Julie said that she doesn't know the actual date or time of month that decisions are released. However she said she seems to notice that decisions often come two weeks after an applicant's interview.

I haven't yet, but I enjoy the taste of all kinds of suffering, so I am sure I would enjoy it. I've never tasted gunner, only their tears. I expect the meat would be fibrous and tough & ultimately unsatisfying. Unlike lost applicants and MS1 students (if you catch them before their first big exam); still tender and delicious, much like veal...or orphan, which I also reccomend.

orphans tend to be tough, due to their hard knock life. Now, stolen baby, on the other hand....

I think we need to invite Jonathan Swift to this thread.

UASOM, interviewed 10/11, accepted today (10/18). IS.

they were really nice. sent by email.

congrats! if you don't mind, could i ask what your stats are?

i guess for those of us who didn't hear anything today, here's to waiting for another month!

For those of us who didn't get accepted today, will we receive hold or rejection notices?

I believe within a month (often 2 weeks) after your interview you should find out something about your status. Either accepted, rejected or put on hold, for later consideration. I at least hope this is the case, because it would be really nerve racking to not hear anything at all for months.

actually i think you don't hear anything until you're either accepted or rejected outright.

what i mean, is that for those of us who didn't hear anything today, unless we get accepted next month (or the month after, etc.), we won't hear anything until the very end of the cycle (march). i think that your application comes before the committee each month, but they don't let you know that you're on hold. they just tell you if you're accepted (or reject you before march, which is not likely).

YUP.

they will keep your application in the consideration pile and evaluate you again next month alongside all the applicants interviewed up till that time. Your application will keep getting recycled until they accept you, put you on the waiting list, or reject you. I know a few people who didn't hear anything until they went on the waiting list. One of my friends actually was moved off the waiting list (accepted) like two or three days before orientation began. Woo!

By the way, before you all start freaking out about "omg I didn't get accepted the first round!", I interviewed in November and ended up being accepted in February. Now, it's probably not going to cure your pre-med jitters, but don't get depressed. Not everyone stuns the admissions committee into accepting them outright.

Wow, totally honored. Is there a prize?

BTW do I owe you money?

You win one orphaned roasted baby. I've been holding it for the right time ever since I ambushed its mother. Yep, this seems to be the right time.

grain fed?

it's ok if the grain came in beer form btw.

Actually before the slaughter, could you spend a few months force feeding it grain, and then serve me the liver separately? Baby foie gras just sounds deeelish!

Yes, you do. Just put it in my box. Er.... mailbox.

haha, I'll PM you a check.......

Sorry, I got preoccupied then wasn't sure if you'd hit the committee up for it yet 🙂

Has anyone heard anything from USA recently? I know that they had all my information (secondary, Comittee letter, LORs) at the end september but I haven't heard anything back yet.

I am in the same boat, I have been complete for quite some time, and have not received anything from USA.

RollSkins and DoctorPardi, how did you guys hear you were complete at USA?
I never received anything from them saying I was complete, but got an email today saying I am scheduled for an interview. To be honest, I was quite surprised as I am OOS and was wondering if they possible sent it to the wrong email address.

I had called them up to make sure that they got the comittee letter from my school. I just got that interview invite email too. I am interviewing on 11/7

Congrats on your interview! I am scheduled for 11/7 also... but I already had another interview scheduled for 11/7, so I hope USA is nice about rescheduling. I think I am going to wait until I receive whatever they are sending us in the mail before I call to reschedule.

I'm in the same boat as well about USA. I completed my application by the end of August, and unless one of my recommendations didn't make it in or something, my application should have been complete for a long time and I still haven't heard anything from them.

Also-- I interviewed at UAB on 9/20 and I still haven't heard anything. Has anyone gotten accepted to UAB regular decision yet? It's been over 5 weeks and the waiting is driving me crazy!

Yes people have been accepted from the regular applicants pool. Last thursday at least one person on SDN was accepted. So decisions may be made around the 18th of every month but who can say for sure.

I have my interview at UASOM this Thursday (11/1)...still no news from South. Any advice for the big day? Any help would be much appreciated...

Mark Scott told us to expect the first decisions to be mailed between Nov. 1 and Nov. 8. Those dates were just an estimate, however, and could change. I believe he said by then they will have had 5 weeks of regular decision interviews (75 people) by then, so they'll have a good idea of how the applicants compare.

Got an email at about 5pm.

Interviewed 10/11, In-State

Also accepted at UASOM. 4pm'ish central. Interviewed 10/18.

I know you all will freak out anyway, but, again, just because you are not accepted immediately does not mean you will not be accepted.
