Is anyone else interviewing at South on 11/14? I was really hoping to get accepted at UAB before then because it's my first choice (I interviewed on 9/20 and haven't heard yet) but since I haven't and it looks like they sent out acceptances yesterday, I'll most likely have to go down to Mobile and interview.

They accepted people on both 10/18 and 11/1? I thought they only accepted once a month?

hey,

congrats to all ya being accepted; i have a status question, i interviewed on 10/11 and i got that email about campus selection a couple days later, i filled it out and on the status page it says, "STATUS: Campus Selection Received", should that change to like on hold or something? Did any of your status change on the website?

thanks.

My status hasn't changed, and I filled out the campus selection thing over a month ago. It still says "Campus Choices Received".

A friend of mine who recently was accepted at UAB said hers never changed off of "Campus Choices Received" before she got accepted

So how many times per month does UASOM send out acceptances?

Still no word from USACOM...

UAB has apparently been accepting people every two weeks. So far I am aware of people being accepted on 10/18 and 11/1. So we may be able to expect more acceptances on 11/15.

Hey guys---just wishing everyone good luck. I'm an MS1 here who has been seeing some of you guys interview.

If you have any (any) questions, shoot me an pm here.

I have a question about USA interviews. I just got my information in the mail about it, and they keep talking about how you need to have transportation for "off-campus interviews." What does this mean? I'll have a car with me, but why would we have an interview that was off campus?

The College of Medicine is on the undergrad campus, and not physically next to the hospital. One of my interviews was in a Physicians' Office Building near the hospital (about 7-8 minutes away from campus I think). It really wasn't a big deal, and a lot of people had off-campus interviews. I suppose they can't have all the doctors come to campus during the middle of the day.

That makes sense. Thanks.
How was the interview? I've had mine at UAB already, but I've heard that theirs are much lower-stress than other schools, which is making me kind of nervous about South's.

I've heard that South can be pretty intense at times during the interview. On the other hand, I've heard nothing but the best things about the administrators there...who knows?

The interview at UAB was suprisingly laid back...I actually enjoyed it.

The interviews at the two schools are surprisingly opposite of their characters. UAB interview is very laid back with the admin giving you a warm fuzzy feeling, whereas south is a bit more formal and distant...

That said, UAB will -not- give you a warm fuzzy feeling when you get here, whereas I hear at south they regularly make you feel like a respectable human being.

I just interviewed at south last week and if anything it was more friendly and laid back than my UAB interview was. It could just be that I was not as nervous having a few interviews under my belt but it was really low stress.

A person at my school was accepted at UAB on 11/8 so my initial thought that acceptances were released every two weeks seems to be wrong.

The adcom probably just meets and decides on average 2 times a month.

I'm interviewing at USA on December 5th...just got the email.

I got my campus assignment for UAB today, and I got my first choice! I'm really glad about this because after what everyone said on interview day, it seemed like it might be a struggle to get your preferred campus assignment.

Did you get accepted today, or you just got your assignment today?

Accepted in October (e-mail), but just got the hard copy letter in the mail.

I called USA today and the assistant said that she placed the holds/acceptances in the mail today (Mon Nov 26th)....we all should be hearing something from them in the next few days! Good luck to all!

Accepted into USACOM, interview at UAB tomorrow 11/29.

Accepted USA 11/29 letter in the mail (small envelope)

Does anyone know when UAB will send out another round of acceptances? Did they do it yesterday (12/1)?

Yeah, I'd like to know too if anyone has any information on this...

Thus far they have only been sent out on Thursdays. People were accepted on 10/18 and 2 weeks later on 11/1. I don't know of anyone having been accepted since then, so this upcoming Thursday seems likely. It will have been about a month.

Someone at my school was accepted 11/8. It seems like they do acceptances every 2 weeks but sometimes more often.

I interviewed at South yesterday...to be honest, it was really enjoyable and laid back. Also, the Med students seem really happy and most of them I met are pretty cool.

Did anyone hear from UASOM today or know someone who has? Its been over a month since the last wave of admissions hasn't it?

I live in the Mobile area and go to school there as well. From what I have heard USA is a VERY good med school it is just young compared so others. Also, from what i have heard (from a cousin in her 3rd year and a cousin who teaches there) is is VERY hands on and more one on one. You actually have to diagnose and help with surgery rather than just watch when you get to rotations. I heard UAB is more bent on research. South is my first choice when i can apply. Just my 2-sence for the people who don't know much about USA.

I interviewed on 10/4 and still haven't heard. If I don't hear something soon I'm going to jump off the nearest bridge. It's my 2nd time around and I don't wanna go through this again. These people are making me crazy!

I interviewed on 9/20 and I'm going crazy as well!

Yeah waiting is tough, I interviewed 10/11 and it is painful to see every Thursday go by without any news. Hang in there though, I am sure we will all find out soon enough.

In the meantime, what are you guys' numbers? I have a 27Q, so I figure that is probably hurting me.

I've got a 46U here. Yeah, I know, it's high. Don't ask yourself how I did it, just know that I did. You know, I'm surprised no one has let me in yet with those kind of numbers.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! TY, I was feeling a little down today, but you cheered me up!!! people with MCATs like yours inspired me to put off taking the MCAT for two years and do nothing but study for months on end when I probably could have just taken it in my third year and gone to mschool with my friends. Oh, no, now I'm depressed again.😳

That's the exact number/letter score too. I interviewed later than you though...11/29. I'm going crazy too.

Wow, I though a 45 was the highest...I didn't even know it was possible to make a 46. You need to apply Ivy League!

You guys are still better off than I am....I still haven't been given an invite and my application has been complete since September

28Q, in state

im really starting to panic 🙁

i have a 32O and am almost finished with an MPH at UAB. I thought I would be a "shoe in" but I am still waiting too. It would be nice if there was more info on the process so I wouldn't feel the need to compulsively check my email everyday...

UAB tends to release all their emails on Thursdays. I received my interview on a Thursday and every acceptance so far has been done on a Thursday as well. So hopefully you will only have to check your email once a week now 🙂 .

Also I think USA's info day is wednesday, but if anyone wants to confirm that I would appreciate it.

I hate the waiting game...I probably check my mail once every hour or so.

But seriously...29N/In-state and I haven't heard anything from anybody since interviews (UAB - 11/1 and South - 12/5). Mark Scott said that USACOM is pretty quick in getting in touch with folks after interviews.

Guess we'll see.

I guess our intuitions about UASOM's notifications were incorrect...

Accepted UASOM 12/12 via e-mail about 9:45 a.m. cst
interviewed 10/11 in state

Acceptance email from UASOM today around 3:30!!

I interviewed Dec. 6 in-state

Accepted into UAB this morning. Interviewed on 11/29. My stats are 290 with research.

Interviewed 11/29 - accepted this morning - in-state. 30Q with 4.0 post-bacc (36 hours) and sub 3.0 undergrad (1992). Lots of experiences since then including some clinical and bench research over the last couple of years.

Chalk one up for a non-traditional.

Good luck everybody.
