California Reveals Its Plan to Phase Out New Gas-Powered Cars by 2035

“Under the proposed rule, issued by the California Air Resources Board, the state will require 35 percent of new passenger vehicles sold in the state by 2026 to be powered by batteries or hydrogen. Less than a decade later, the state expects 100 percent of all new car sales to be free of the fossil fuel emissions chiefly responsible for warming the planet.
It would mark a big leap. Currently, 12.4 percent of new vehicles sold in California are zero-emissions, according to the board.”
Re: Norway

Might be very politically similar to CA. It's a national political goal to reach 100% of person cars sold being EVs by the end of 2025. What the impact of this is thought to be is in the blue, with a population of 5 or so million. The optics are great, though, if all personal vehicles are EVs, no emissions are made, right? (with all electricity essentially being green - wind/water/earth).

That Karma looks fabulous. Still would get taxed like an ICE here, though.

Honestly by that point that may just be the free market at work. Most automakers have committed to going fully electric by then. My guess is the date gets pushed back a few times, but that’s where we are heading. I’ve never seen anyone who went electric who regretted it or went back. The instant torque, and the lack of maintainance is addictive.

Note it’s only new cars. Most ICE cars sold today will still be on the road by then.
