I am applying md/mph, and found out my rank on the md list (<15!!!) But that doesn't matter, because Dr. Stull doesn't rank the alternate mph candidates. There's only 6 spots or so, and I gotta think that the people who were originally accepted are gung ho, and a spot won't really open up. Sucks!
Just sent my letter of withdrawal today. Hope one of you enjoys my seat =)

It has begun. As of today, the website shows that they have accepted through #19 on the alternate list. I'm sure many of you are already quite aware of this fact. Let the nail biting begin!![]()
Okay, I've checked the website about 400 times daily now and it's still holding strong at #19. Does anyone know how this mysterious process works? Do they update the list each time they accept someone or do they update the list at specific intervals (like weekly, etc.)?
Also, when they say that they've accepted through #19, does that mean that they've sent acceptance letters out to #'s 1-19 and are still waiting to hear back? I assume this is why it may take some time. And just because they've accepted though #19 doesn't mean that all 19 slots have been filled, right? Argh, I wish I had paid more attention during this admissions speech at my interview!
So how is everyone else biding their time?!?!
I won't be applying to medical school for a couple of years, but OHSU is currently one of my top choices. I'm an Oregon resident. Will this help me at all when I apply to OHSU? I know that some schools favor in-state applicants more than others do. What about OHSU?
Being IS will help you get the initial interview at OHSU, without a doubt. However, your residency is not considered post-interview. Everyone who interviews at OHSU is on equal footing at that point and residency (and gpa, to a certain extent) become almost irrelevant. The interview at OHSU has a lot more weight than at other schools.
I disagree. According to AMCAS, in 2007 only 8.9% of applications (~389) to OHSU were Oregon residents, but those applicants constituted a whopping 68.6% of matriculants (~81).

Another site has these statistics (http://www.medschoolready.com/app/schooldetails.asp?ID=124&DH=11):
(Instate / Out-state)
For interview invitation: 1 in 2.0 / 1 in 14.5
Applicants accepted: 1 in 4.1 / 1 in 99.9
Interviewees accepted: 1 in 2.1 / 1 in 6.9
I know they claim that it doesn't make much of a difference, but I'd say being an OR resident puts you in a whole other league...
The numbers are inflated by Oregon's small population and applicant pool. Only 65% of our class is in-state, which really isn't that high for being the only medical school in Oregon.
Apparently, I have made myself the official OHSU alternate list scorekeeper. We are now at #31 and counting! Come on big money, no whammies, no whammies...
Also, it seems to me that there aren't a huge number of people in this thread this year waiting to hear results. I can't decide if that's good or bad...
Lastly, are there any post-meds or current-meds (or maybe even pre-meds) out there who would recommend some reading material before starting med school? I've heard a lot of people say not to read up on anatomy since you'll be doing enough of that during first year. How about any helpful literature on what to expect during the medical school years and beyond? I've already found a couple of blogs that offer pretty different perspectives of life in the trenches. Or hell even movies.

Wow...they're on #31 already! Moving right along. Does this seem to be going faster than previous years?
