being that a radiology residency is difficult to get these days, has anyone considered applying for nuclear medicine instead?

why isnt there any interest in nuclear medicine? is it that poorly looked upon?

There are very few jobs available for nuclear medicine trained physicians. Most of them are found in academics.

If you are radiology trained with a nucs fellowship you can work anywhere you want.

i fully realize that the radiologist looks more appealing to employers than a nuclear med. doc, being that radiologists get 6 months of training in nuclear medicine in their residency.

but, if u are interested in radiology, and dont have the stats to get into a radiology residency, dont u think nuclear medicine is a good alternative? it will be hard to find a job in nuclear medicine, but in the end wont u find some job?

Prominence, your question has been answered. I think your trying to justify nuclear med by asking others if it's worth it. You have to decide what you like.

 

[Rads Resident]

Every PD is well aware that Nucs is a common back-up plan for Rads. When a Nucs resident comes looking to jump into Rads, the PD immediately thinks they failed the first time around. So I'm not so sure it helps.
