I am under the impression that this a troll. However, I will give some input to elucidate your situation. ATP stands for Adenosine Triphosphate. The "Triphosphate" is a huge give away. Look at the tail of this molecule and what do you see? Three neatly arranged phosphate groups.

Lol don't worry if the IUPAC names and the common names are nothing alike. I'm at the end of ochem 2 right now and I'm 100% sure nobody in my class would recognize the IUPAC name as ATP

You will definitely fail if you just give up because the name is long or the terminology is foreign to you. I still get a bit shaken when I come across a huge pre-calculus problem, but now that I have studied more I have been able to tackle such questions; I improved simply by opening a book and reading. I am also anxious about the higher level courses I will be taking as a freshman pre-med in the next few months, but I chose to be proactive and started studying early. Go for a walk, turn off your phone, and open your textbook. Good luck.

I dunno but I know people who did miserably in high school and ended up getting into medical school with a 3.6+ GPA.

Yeah it seems to be an increasing trend that HS GPA doesn't equal College GPA. Some high schools have very lax grading policies whereas some schools (mine) are super uptight graders. The average GPA at my school is about 2.7. There are some classes where teachers only give out As to the top 3 students.

Do universities/colleges expect you to know it going into their school from highschool? No.

Should you know it as a Pre-Med..yea, you probably should.

You guys gotta pick it up, you got all the time in the world to create yourself into a library of information. Stop abusing your time and start focusing on good principles, you'll need to have those life skills in Medical School.

University will be nothing compared to high school. One error, you are done son.

IUPAC is amazing. I love it. Once you get through your first two years you will understand it better.Of course, it will be of no use to you depending on the route you will take.

High School Sucks

I can honestly say that I forget Molarity, Molality, specific gravity, and any estimation that can be used to determine somethings concentration. Likewise I forgot the IUPAC names of every inorganic compound I ever worked with that wasn't an acid or base.

If you honestly presented me with the compound I'd think this crap probably shines bright like a diamond ( Chiral).

About the only people who ever guess what it is correctly are chemistry majors and people who have just finished biochem. Everyone else (attendings, residents, med students in general) often get it wrong because it's just not that useful in clinical life. So we all forget about it.

Are you serious? I learned stoichiometry as a sophomore.

It not the stoichiometry that is the hard part, it the part of realization that you can use stoichiometry and said application to check your answers and/or make problems simpler.

Take drug dosing for example:

Everyone learns that Maintenance Dose x Bioavailability=[Drug] x (Clearance of Drug)

Sometime the units don't line up quite right and makes the problem seem a lot harder, but if you apply what IS simple stoichiometry, and trust me when you are stressed you overlook the simple stuff. (ie you are dosing is mg/dL every six hours, but concentration is in ng, and clearance is in L/sec.)
