Had a meeting last month with my district manager and tomorrow i have an other one. Chance is that i am getting fired. The metrics i got written up for have not improved yet. And my name has been taken off myschedule for next week.
 
If you are off the schedule, that's the end of it. Start brushing up your resume. In my experience, techs' or customers' complaints can get pharmacist fired/transferred/floating. If you haven't been getting along with them, or they don't like you due to personality/productivity issues. It's not all about metrics.

I have no customer complaints and get along with techs . It could either i am getting fired or forced to float .
 
What's your plan if you get fired? Are you going to try to stick with pharmacy or move on to something else?
 
It's not from metrics alone. Do you get along with your techs and pharmacy manager. Are you a staff rph? Usually, the staff rph is the scapegoat and will get teamed up by pharmacy manager, store manager and techs if they don't like you. If all these people talk negative about you to supervisors, you are screwed. My suggestion is to apply everywhere immediately even if you don't get fired. You need that safety net for your sanity.

They usually put you on PIP or some other related program before you are fired/layed off. Not because they actually want you to improve but as evidence to use against you in a wrongful termination lawsuit you might bring against them.

Are you part of a protected federal class?

And yes if you are not scheduled next week and not meeting your metrics there is a good chance your position is being right sized aka you are being "separated" from the company.

Doe you have enough money in the bank to pay your rent/mortgage? do you have enough food to eat? do you have a car you can live in? You need to make sure you have the basics covered before your employment is terminated.

Being laid off can happen fast, especially as we get closer to peak saturation.

Look man, it's not always a valid reason you are getting fired. A lot of time it can have to do with you being older and getting paid "too much". As a former manager (not pharmacy) we were always looking for ways to axe our "whales" aka older people that have been with the company for decades and were sucking us dry while having similar productivity to new hires. Corporate will nit pick and put emphisis on little things or make up metrics that are impossible to meet at your store. Often times we would try to force people to go into early retirement via dog whistle harassment.

Heck I wouldn't even put it past the manager to pay someone to put in complaints about you to get you fired.

This is biz 101. After 55 years old you become a financial liability to all corporations due to your increased pay. ANd in the pharmacy industry I would say it's after 40 due to the cheap influx of new hungry grads.


Is age discrimination illegal? Heck yes. Does this stop company from making up reasons and paying lawyers to find loop holes? What do you think

I am hoping for some clarifications: I realize a pharmacist with 30 years of service earns few more weeks of PTO than newbies. However, I thought in retail world, not much of pay difference exist for old timer and new grad? Where as min and max is 150% of the pay scale.

I remember Walgreens has three tier structure, 48 for first year, 49 for second year and 50 for 3+ years? The main wage difference would come from position like staff vs managerial. Could anyone provide wage differentials or elaboration?

Also, what is the thoughts on layoff, fired or resign. For pharmacist, would you not be better of resigning than being fired. Although unemployment benefit could be a consideration, would it look better on the resume?

Anyone cares to comment?

Pay scales can be quite different for long timers versus new hires. I was at 65$/hr in 2015 when I was pushed out. Replacement who lasted less than 6 months was hired at $56/hr. I also had 5 weeks vacation. Probably a 25k difference in compensation. Of course now that they are on the third replacement ....

I was only following orders from our director. It wasn't my fault. Had I refused I would have probably been fired myself and that was when I was still paying off my car/emergency home. Now that my car is paid off I have more ability to follow my morals as I will always have a place to live.

The pay difference might not be huge in pharmacy but it is there. The real pain comes from PTO , vested stock options, 401k matching and increased insurance premiums. Older workers are much more likely to get sick and have serious medical issues. Young workers are cheaper to insure.

Layoff/fired/resign are all really the same thing. Sure if you are "fired" you might not be able to claim state run unemployment but company rarely contest this in the court cases I have seen. Many times being fired comes with criminal charges from the government. ANd for getting your next job you can always honestly say you didn't want to work there anymore regardless of if you were terminated or left voluntarily.

A billing issue with medicare got blamed on me. Filled it out as I was told by previous DM. Should have known something was up when I was asked if I filled out some forms they showed me. Gave me a BS line about medicare fraud because some dates didn't match.

If they want you out they will find any BS reason. I got layed off one time for "driving too fast in the parking lot" based on security footage of my car going over a speed bump at 2:30 AM in an empty parking lot. The hard part is realizing when you are no longer wanted there by management so you can start your job search. I have had some jobs where I was blindsided by a layoff because I was too oblivious. Always trying to have a friend in upper management such as the DM, region manager, vice president ect so they can drop you a line if the company is planning on cutting you loose. At my last job I knew one of the vice presidents and he would check the layoff list for my name and let me know if I was on it (we had several rounds of "right sizing") .
 
OP is your PIC in trouble too? And how are the stores in your market performing? Have any other people been written up too? Talk to other people and get some advice. And if you think you have definite case against your write-up, call up compliance/ ethics hotline ASAP and make your case. You are gonna burn the bridge but at this point it's the least of your worries. Fight tooth and nail for your survival. Who knows you might not be alone in voicing your opinion against current DM?
 
If you are in a right to work state then you also in a right to fire state. They dont have to give a reason for 'separation'

Regardless of state law their are federal laws protecting some classes of people. OP has to be sure the reason he is being terminated is valid.
 
The best option right now even if you don't get fired is to apply right away to their biggest competitor while you're still employed. If you're currently at CVS apply directly to WAGS and vice versa. You'll land a job quickly because DM love to "steal" from competitor. Trust me I did it. One of the big corporation was ready to fire me for bs reason because my salary was too high. I applied directly to their biggest competitor and landed a job within 1 week.

Yes. And if you wait till your laid off it's much harder because companies see you as "damaged goods" always try to apply to jobs when you still have a job. IT's good marketing. It's not 1960 anymore. I doubt anyone here is going to be able to work for just one company without having to switch.

The pic was written up twice. If i am fired for the metrics , i will fight as my pic's numbers are no better than mine.

Do you really wanna be that guy that makes a scene and looks super desperate? Just accept your fate that they don't want you and look for another job man. If they wanted you or liked you at all they wouldn't have terminated you.

OP has no choice but to go all out and fight for even a slim chance of survival. Just don’t make a scene (like physical or emotional outburst). Tell your DM during your meeting that you would like to challenge the decision by contacting ethics or HR department if it comes down to it.

I disagree with this. It's just going to make it that much worse. Even if he does survive everyone around him will see him as "that guy" and it will just be awkward to be around your coworkers. It's clear they don't want OP around anymore, possibly due to other attributes OP has that he is not letting us on to.

Better to just leave if someone doesn't want you. Either that or switch stores.

Exactly correct. I had the same experience. I got singled out for my store's poor performance. I was the scapegoat because my pharmacy manager was more popular with techs and liked by DM. The best revenge is to resign and accept a job elsewhere. Show them that you don't need them. I considered suing and complaining to regional VP but I would have burned all bridges and destroyed years of hard work to build up my resume with valuable experiences.

Lawyers are expensive, the companies have staff lawyers who are just there to represent the company. The OP could lose 10s of thousands of dollars. I would only sue if she/he has real evidence that they have been discriminated against. Sadly, Employees can fire people pretty easy, especially if they show she/he hasn't been meeting metrics.

This is true, if you are a fired and sue, and the case ends up at court. A simple Google search will turn up your name... You become unhireable forever.

You could fight internally before you are fired. But, once you are out, you should not attempt to sue the employer. Just move on to a better company (that wants you).

All of these pharmacists advocating against protecting yourself are really displaying pathetic behavior.

The profession of pharmacy is like one giant union that works against its own interests

It's probably game over.

I would fight that **** just to "freeze" any action while you look for work elsewhere. Or claim FMLA whether you plan to provide paperwork or not. Unethical people do it all the time but just throwing it out there. Pieces of garbage do it all the time at Walmart and it scares HR to death.

Yes, please have this end up in court. Sue them after you get fired.

There is a reason most insurance/ divorce/ Trump /anything involving a lawyer ends up with a settlement. You don't want to tarnish your brand/name. You could be the idiot and fight this tooth and nail in court, and become unhireable later. Do that.
