Any 27-29 MCAT with interviews????

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well, I just saw my MCAT score...and it was quite unpleasant. And...it's official, I am now a part of this demographic:

PS 11
BS 10
VR 6
W R
That's a 27R. Of all the sections to bomb, and to bomb royally, it's VR...which from the get go, I got 10s quite consistently, with a smattering of 11s, with one 9, and one 8.

Bummed, bummed, bummed.

aww, i got the exact same score (diff numbers tho= 8,9,10). i was bummed out too and people kept letting me know that I should probably just wait and apply in the next cycle (my pre-med advisor told me this after i had submitted my primaries! lol). anyway story short, i have two interviews already! given that doesn't mean i am in or anything, but it is still something that I am very appreciative of!

Reviving this thread.

Anyone with <30 MCAT and interview invites yet? I need some positive motivation while working on secondaries today.

Not me 🙁. 3.87 gpa and 28 N on my MCAT, all my secondaries are done and letters are in and haven't heard anything back yet. I just have to keep reminding myself it is only August and I can't expect to be one of the first interviewees because of my MCAT score.

Hey, we're MCAT twins! Good luck to you. I'm still waiting for AMCAS verification and have only received 2 (unscreened) secondaries so far.

Awesome!

If you don't mind saying, what two schools did you receive interview invites from already?

yea i was thinking someone we should start an interview invitation thread for folks with <30 mcat score

If the average MCAT for an MD student is a 30.5, I would bet there are quite a lot of students with 27's, 28's, and 29's getting accepted.

👍 Thank you. I've been thinking about this for a while.. in theory an average means half the scores are above and half are below. Although, I believe the MSAR reports median mcat scores.

... and the mother****ers act like they forgot about dre.

lol. Look at the AAMC data. A 28 is the average applicant, and combined with a 3.5-3.6 range that comes out to a 42% overall acceptance rate over 2005-2007. Its a little lower or higher depending on ethnic breakdown when you look at specific demographics for their data tables.

27O 3.8 GPA three interview invites. Including UCSF my dream school. I am so excited.

Applied to about 15 schools and haven't gotten any rejections yet. No news is a good news right. Well, not in my case. I just got an invite today for 9/18. It's still early in the season, so I am aiming high.

i have a 29Q and 1 interview so far....nothing else...a few rejections but i guess it only takes one...:scared:

You're THE man!!! I have similar stats and have 2/27 rejections so far, so I'm feelin' a little nervous. I'm expecting to hear from a lot of places in the next two weeks.

Come on people...keep inspiring me!

i'm with you on the score - where is your invite? gpa? ec's?!
my gpa is like a 3.8...i dont feel like writing Ecs and such but they arent anything special. check my md apps for my invite 🙂

ithankGod--

I have a 27R/3.89 gpa, and am curious which 3 schools in particular you have invites to...mind sharing?

woops, never checked back into this thread after posting

as of last monday, i have three interviews now (have faith below-30 macat-ers! it happens!!!). they are from fiu, jefferson med college, and uf. note that all of these schools have average mcats above 30, so miracles can happen! as mentioned, an interview isn't the same as an acceptance but i give a small prayer of thanks everyday just for the chance to interview!

if u need any additional info, just pm me 🙂

I have a 27Q and have 5 interviews already. Thank God and by his grace I will get more. An important thing is to apply to a wide range of schools

I got a 27Q on the MCAT. My cGPA is 3.92 and my sGPA is 3.88. I have received 2 interview invites so far (Albert Einstein and Drexel). I also am getting one from West Virginia University (M.D.). Stay as positive as you can and have trust in what you have to offer! It might just work out👍

it seems like 27Q is the magic MCAT score for people to have multiple interviews. I have 28M and received only one invite so far. On the bright side, I didn't receive any rejections yet.

That's a good sign. I have rejections from Vanderbilt and Boston U, so far.

Did WVU tell you that you were getting an interview? Just out of curiosity, I applied there and sent my secondary in mid July and haven't heard back anything.

I agree. 27Q with 5 interviews?!? That's simply amazing. Just for the sake of curiosity, bbfthegirl are you a member of URM?

No not yet, but I emailed the lady there and she said that they would be scheduling interviews in 2-3 weeks. She said that everyone they send secondaries to most likely will get interviewed, unless that person completely messes up the secondary.

Just wanted to say good luck to all the 2010 applicants. I posted in this thread last year, and started medical school yesterday, so it can be done!

It's people like you that keep my hopes alive 👍

You already got an interview invite from them? I've been waiting for their secondary for like two months. Sigh 🙁

dude, me too, them and Albert Einstein (coincidentally), are holding me up from completing all my secondaries

Yeah I got the invite from Einstein a month ago, give or take, and I just checked my status page to find Drexel's invite like two days ago (w/out getting an email). Apparently both of these schools give out a good amount of interviews so keep your hopes up!

Keep hope alive people!

28Q here (8PS, 10V, 10BS) with two interviews (Tulane and Drexel) and only one rejection (Georgetown).

Personally, I believe more interviews are coming our way, we just have to sit back and let those upper 30's MCATers cancel each other out! :xf:

Keep it up you all. You can get lots of love with a sub 30 score, you just have to play teh game right. MCAT doesnt mean ****. I only started a few weeks ago, but im doin great and no one cares about mcat or gpa or any of that stuff. just be confident and youll do great things.

Pretty much. First few days people talked a little about it, but it was more of a conversation piece remember the crappy time. Most of the top people in our class currently (we already finished one semester) had sub 30 MCAT.

Can you enlighten me how you already finished one semester...? 😕

We start in the summer. So, we an intense anatomy/embryology/radiology course and doctoring during that time span. It allows us an easier load in the fall. They gradually had more classes until second year and then hammer the hell out of you. Basically all day every day for 11 weeks is anatomy and doctoring stuff. It is nice because anatomy is a pretty low yield course overall relative to the amount of time you put into it, so by getting it out of the way early you can focus on other classes that are more important.

Hhhmm. Me, I've got a 31 MCAT and 3.2 gpa. Still no interview invites. So sad.....

I'm right there with you buddy. 31Q and a 3.65. Nothing yet except a rejection from BU. Just keep reminding yourself that it's still early in the cycle. I have to remind myself about 30 times a day (every time I check my email to find an empty inbox). :xf:

Sometimes schools are just slow or you get shuffled around. It is bizarre how it works.

I posted on this thread last year when I got an interview with a 27 MCAT. It ended in a waitlist by the way...

Not to burst your bubble, but you will only be getting MD interviews with a 27-29 MCAT if you meet one of the three criteria:

1) You're a minority: Native American, African American, or Hispanic
2) You have a nice state school, which is how I got my interview
3) You are a nontraditional applicant

#3 is not as good as the first 2, though. By #3 I mean you are like late 20s and had another career established for a good amount of time. Adcoms like ppl coming in with diverse backgrounds. At the sametime, I think it's harder for nontraditionals to prove they aren't just switching to medicine for a better lifestyle.

I am a number 3, and I also have the benefit of number 2. I have been offered interviews for my state school and 2 D.O. schools out of state.

I have JD and MBA degrees, and this past week started coursework towards either a PhD in Health Admin. & Policy or a MPH, coursework to be completed between 2nd and 3rd year of med. school, and dissertation (if any) to be completed during last two years of med. school.

I received a 27 MCAT, 10 VR 10 PS 7 BS. I had a 3.0 GPA in college, don't remember my science GPA.

I have a lot of extracurricular activities, a lot of shadowing experience, a little research and work experience, and a lot of volunteer experience.

Anyone have an idea about my likelihood of further allopathic interviews out of state? Also, what realistic chance do I have at my in-state interview?

Thanks in advance...
