Any love from Oklahoma State?

I am wondering too. I spoke with them awhile back and they said that they weren't looking at apps until the end of September but didn't mention when they'd be giving out interviews.

They usually don't start interviewing until mid-late October.

Right. I know they don't start interviewing until late October, but I was wondering when, at the eariliest, to expect a notification of being selected as an interviewee. For instance, do they send a interview invite letter a few weeks before your potential interview date or even sooner than that? Thanks.

I talked to the admissions office on Monday and they said this is going to be different because they were not going to start interviewing until November.

so interviews start at the earliest in nov now? Thats great for me since my august mcat was prolly gonna get be a later interview! Plus no D.O. letter lined up yet

I was called about 2 weeks before my interview, if I recall correctly. I interviewed in Oct.

Thanks, DrMom. Now, maybe I can relax a little instead of being dissappointed every time I open the mailbox!

Yeah, they call you--not mail.

OSU-COM has started interviews in October in past year.

The interviews will not begin until November this year, so don't think you have been overlooked at this point.

Any idea why they are waiting so long to start?

Thanks in advance.

Just to make you nervous....

At least its just not me that they haven't called. I still want to go here really bad. It's one of the few places competing for my favor with KC. And pretty much the only reason I haven't put down my deposit yet.

It IS Worth the wait, I promise.

It is a great program and I believe that we are trained very well, as for comparing to other programs I am unable to do that since this is the only one I have attended. I hope your wait is not in vain AmberNickel.... Best Of Luck

I liked OSUCOM...toured there a few months ago...
They've requested my secondaries but I'm waiting to see who won the mcat fight before I waste everyone's time.

Nice school though...and Tulsa is home. (although at the moment I'm in Norman dodging suicide bombers)

Thanks for the encouragement! I get excited when I think about this school. 😀 I just hope I find something out before my deposit is due in December.

Just thought I'd let everyone know - I called today to ask when interview scheduling would begin and Sarah said they would probably start calling the last week of October and the actual interviews are scheduled to begin around November 14. Hope this helps.

Okay, I know it's only Tuesday of the last week in October, but I am so anxious! I check the "Official Interview Invite" thread about 3 times a day just to make sure OSU hasn't called anybody yet. I'm not sure how much longer I can wait before I become seriously paranoid! OSU is the only school I want to be a part of, so I hope they call soon. Alright, sorry for rambling. Everyone keep their fingers crossed! Here we go.

I was called by Sarah today to be offered an interview (I am oos, by the way)! My dates to choose from were 11/14, 11/16, 11/17, and 11/18. Not sure which date I will make it out, since I am perilously close to failing out of school after attending five other interviews!!!

Just a heads up to all the other OSU applicants!

Congrats Okayplayer. I can't help but say I'm jealous. I think I may call them to check up on my status. Good luck to you, I'm sure you will do well.

Come the 14th or 17th. I'll be the person giving y'all a tour on those days.

Isn't 6 interviews excessive? You'll likely get in wherever you interview, so I wouldn't go to all of them.

Nice, man. I may very well be coming the 14th. It would be good to meet you. You and a few of the other OSU people on here really, really sell the school well and are a major reason I applied (since geographically, being from WA, OSU is not close at all).

As for the interviews, 4 are for DO and 2 are for MD (Rosalind Franklin and my state school, the University of Washington). I am already in AZCOM, but I'd like to keep my options open. I wasn't really sold on CCOM after interviewing and I'm not all that excited about DMU, the other school I'm interviewing at. So basically I'd like to see if I like OSU or AZCOM better (and I'm not ruling out DMU).

RFU and UW are probably somewhat longshots (less of a longshot for RFU).

I was admitted to AZCOM before OSU-COM and did a big comparison, so feel free to PM me with specific comparative questions or my opinions.

okayplayer, when were you complete?

i'm ready to get seriously irritated if i don't get an interview invite. yep, i've got a sense of entitlement. 🙂

Interviews are going through March or April, so don't assume you won't get one if you don't hear from them soon.

but i want an early one, too. yeah, yeah, me, me. i know, but i also know osucom has rolling admission, so the earlier you interview, the better. since i've been complete for over a month, am from oklahoma (non-resident, though) and have competitive numbers, i'll be a bit wtf if i don't get to interview until 2006.

Hey. According to my spreadsheet, I submitted my secondary and letters 7/18 and received notice I was complete 8/2. I am positive you'll be getting a call today, your numbers are way better than mine! :luck:

okay, you were complete way earlier than me. i'm so antsy these days -- i need to lay off the caffeine. congrats, though! according to the usnews data from two years ago, they interviewed 36 out of state people and accepted 32, so them's good odds.

I find that VERY hard to believe, since only 8-12 people can be in the class from out of state.

check usnews for verification, dude. actually admitting 32 oos people would probably correlate with about 12 or fewer people matriculating.

32/36 seems to be a pretty high percentage. I'm sure it could be true, but I know too many people that were rejected (i.e. more than 4.)

I just wouldn't get too overconfident if I were you, regardless of the validity of the statistic.

wait theyre already giving out interviews?
I thought they wont be reviewing files till Nov.1st?
is there an email to check application status or phone #? I need to call and check if my letters are there

that's true. even that statistic means 4 people from oos didn't get admitted. also, it's possible that they've decided to invite more oos people to interview, which would raise the selectivity factor since oklahoma still limits them to 10% or so oos students. my guess, though, is that regardless of the merits of osucom, people with no ties to oklahoma who are not from the region, would likely turn down an osucom acceptance if they received other offers.

Well not if it's the best school they got into. You don't have to be from the region to want to go to school there.

Maybe, I don't know -- I just get the hunch lots of people wouldn't move to Oklahoma regardless of school quality. Seriously, people here are so shocked when I tell them I'm from Oklahoma -- I guess my neck isn't sufficiently red.

Well I'm not from Oklahoma, and had the opportunity to go to medical school in Phoenix.

Location had absolutely nothing to do with my decision.

Aren't you from Texas -- moving to Oklahoma is not exactly a huge swing.

Anyway, location's a big deal with me, and I can see why it would be for other people, too. Tulsa is okay because I'm from Oklahoma, and my parents are in Stillwater. Unforunately, my husband's family is also close. 🙂 If I didn't have those ties and were a native Oregonian, I wouldn't even consider going to OSU, regardless of its academic merit. Of course, Tulsa still seems sort of bad because isn't the economy there still hosed because of telecom. American's not doing so hot, either.

We have some people from Oregon, Idaho, California, West Virginia, and other areas. Just because you wouldn't do it doesn't mean others wouldn't, so don't generalize.

I've been complete at OSU since June 27th. I was so early that when I called to check my application status, they thought I was just really late for the 2005 matriculation. My numbers are about average, 3.36 GPA and 25M MCAT, so I hope I hear from them very soon.

Why do I bother? Re-read my post (or don't because you obviously can't interpret it), and please don't accuse me of making generalizations. It's like the pot calling the kettle black. 🙄

I think Tulsa is an awesome town. It's easy to get around in and there are lots of things to do but it doesn't have some of the bad things found in other bigger cities. Plus I have a lot of family and friends there and it is close to where I live right now. (Oh yeah and it was the very first town I played soccer in (5 yo) and at least in 1985 they had awesome soccer programs -go rainbows!)... sorry...got sidetracked...

When I was interviewing at Kirksville the guy who interviewed me went to OSU and he said this about the shcools I've applied to... "KCUMB is a good school in a bad part of town. OSU is a good school in a good part of town. KCOM is a good school in Kirksville." I thought that was funny. It is true though that they are all good schools.

I guess location is a big factor in my decision. I prioritize as follows: 1) curriculum (and all related); 2) Location; 3) Cost. OSU wins across the board for me. But I in no way will be upset to go to either KCUMB or KCOM because they are also awesome, just in not as great locations (for me) and more expensive.

Of course, the biggest problem is getting in. 2 down and 1 to go out of my three choice schools... come on OSU!!! PICK ME!!!

Gotta point out here ( even though I'm sure OSUdoc will disagree with me 🙄 ), that OSUCOM is not in a good part of town. Maybe bad parts of Tulsa aren't as bad as bad parts of Kansas City, but it's sort of ghetto.

I really like the curriculum at KCUMB, and OSU seems like it has a more traditional curriculum, so it loses in that regard. It is cheaper, but not by a lot if you're paying out of state tuition. Tulsa is an okay town. I wonder if it would freak me out to live there again, though. I'm so used to living in a very liberal, very non-religious place, and that's so not Oklahoma. Of course, there are liberal people in Oklahoma (I grew up with them), but they are the minority.

It's weird because I started applying to osteopathic schools with a big focus on getting into OSUCOM. Now, if I get an interview, I'll go, but I'm not jazzed about it. I'm much more jazzed about DMU and even KCUMB. I admit I am a bit irritated that I haven't heard from them, which is irrational since they're not my top choice.

For Oklahoma schools, I'm going to be a heretic here and admit I'd rather go to OU.

OSU is in a good part of town? If you consider between two refineries (oh and the power plant too) and the poorest school district in Tulsa (elementary school - Eugene Field Elementarty) a good part of town, then 👍

**disclaimer, I am applying to OSU next year and currently live next to the school. Just making light of the fact that its a great school but as for the "good part of town" there are alot of nicer areas and I would (by NO means) call this good. Its alot of section 9 housing in this area. While this is a great area for a school/health clinic with the underserved population it is by no means a great area of Tulsa. Just my $.03.

Do you live in that apartment complex right by the school? I know that's a nice complex in a bad part of town -- my sister lived there, though, and had an awesome view from her deck of downtown Tulsa. However, people did think she was nuts for living there.

What are some of the differences of KCUMB. I'm applying there next year too and looking into cirriculum differences (if you don't mind expanding)

eh, I have to say that moving here from the Philadelphia area (lifelong resident of NJ) has been a minor culture shock, I don't think I will have a problem losing my identity. Then again I'm more moderate and although I find some of the strong emotions a tad strange, I'm at least tolerant to the fact that people can agree to disagree. (I find that here in the Mid section of the US - not everyone is apt to that). Additionally, remember its only for about 4 years of schooling and for residency ... the sky is the limit.
