Chicago is awesome, especially for our persian friends🙂 There are a loot of persian muslims in the Chicago area. As for the city, its awesome, there is always something to do or somewhere to go.

BTW, tons of persian med students at RFU and UIC.

Jus curious, if you're Persian, do they have that done for as an ethnicity on AMCAS? I have a syrian friend who did dental apps last year and on their system, he had to put down caucasion cuz there was nothing for Arabs....

Thanks to Wikipedia....

To bump a thread on an internet forum is to post a reply in order to raise the thread's profile by returning it to the top of the list of active threads. This is also called "necroposting", i.e. thread necromancy, or "gravedigging", as old threads are said to be dying or dead.

Typically, a thread may be bumped after it has received no replies in several days or when other, perhaps less significant, threads have knocked it off the front page.

Thread bumping, which in its most open form is simply a post consisting of the word "bump", is commonly considered a breach of netiquette and some moderated forums forbid it. Users may get around that by posting what is ostensibly a genuine reply. Sometimes this will mockingly contain the word "bump" in it, such as *Is wandering the forum when he bumps into this thread*. It may also take the form of a trivial question or response such as "Anyone?", rather than using the word "bump" which makes clear their intention.

In other instances, bumping is used to keep threads deemed important from falling off a front page. In this case, bumping would not be a breach of netiquette; to the contrary, it may be seen as a necessary if mundane task to be performed. However, many forums now have features allowing administrators to make a thread "sticky", that is, the thread will remain at the top regardless.

BUMP is sometimes used as a backronym for "Bring Up My Post/Postcount" or as a recursive acronym "Bump Up My Post".

A few forums create a thread specifically for bumping (which usually does not count for a user's postcount). The thread is usually used as a way for forum goers to post on nothing in particular, or just pass time talking to themselves, and allows the moderators to lessen the clutter of pointless threads.

They say anyone from North Africa or the Middle East is considered caucasian. Pakistan is where "Asian" begins.

Tifa, jus wondering did you talk about Islam a lot in the secondary essays and what not? Especially for the ones that ask about how you add to diversity and stuff???

Yup, I did. I was really involved in my MSA so that was a headline and I also did a lot of "Islamically related" stuff in college that I felt added to my uniqueness. And all the interviewers I came across seemed genuinely interested in my activities, so I felt totally comfortable to share.

Hmm, thought I'd jus bum this to see if theres any more interest out there....hehe

SDN is so much worse (or worser? is that even a word?) than facebook.

I am pretty dark and everyone considers me black, though i am from egypt. I do have some family from southern egypt, so I think I will be putting down black. Genetically speaking Egyptians are not completely white nor completely black though it depends on what part of Egypt you are from.

AAMC seems to indicate you should put what you consider yourself to be.

What do you guys think?

Thanks

Put Black if you feel comfortable...im sure it wont hurt...the things is, everyone else who could do would, so you would put yourself at a disadvantage if you dont...

From what I've heard, the airport security focuses on ppl that seem like they recently shaved and have some fuzz and fit the criteria, their reasoning is that it is a radical who shaved to look like he fits in more or some other garbage like that...

Thanks for the responses everyone.

I am gonna book my ticket this weekend, I might just leave on the tenth just in case.

BTW Vermont seems pretty fun 😀

Assalam Allaykum my muslim brothers and sisters.

AsalamuAlaykum,

Just wanted to give everyone a reminder to inshallah make dua for all our brothers and sisters around the world in their hardships here and overseas and for all of us applying this cycle and for all of taking the mcat this coming saturday (like me, hehe). Inshallah, we, as Muslims, got this!

Assalamu aleikum!

I've got a few Islamic related questions about this whole thing (pre-med). I'm doing it solely for the sake of Allah (SWT) (alhamdulilah! I have finally realized my error; I was doing this for all the wrong reasons) but I have a few questions. In order to get into medical school, we have to "impress" adcoms, if you will. Does "trying to please people," as in trying to please these adcoms for the sake of admissions, take away from the fact that we're doing it solely for the sake of Allah (SWT)? I don't think so, especially since to get into medical school we need to essentially "please" these people, but I honestly do not know, and I want to make sure that what I am doing is solely for Allah's sake. For example, I try to please my parents to the utmost of my ability in order to please Allah (SWT)...is my dilemma somewhat similar?

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Walaykumasalam!

I don't think you have to worry too much about this. Just make sure to keep your intentions straight throughout the whole process. It's not that you have to "impress" these adcoms, rather its your want to better your application with your ECs. Think of it this way, you want to show people that Muslims are capable of doing phenomenal things as well, as they've done in the past. It is the same idea that you listen to and obey your parents because Allah (SWT) told you do so and de facto, you are getting rewarded for something you would prolly do anyways. Inshallah, we should make our intentions clear and the fact is we are doing medicine to help people in the future fisabilillah. Just make sure that in this process you do not sacrfice anything you would have done for the sake of Allah for the sake of this process, that might be kind of shady (i.e. not praying to study = not cool). Of course, I really dont have any knowledge so this is jus my 2 cents.

Wasalam

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on applying to the SMP at Georgetown. My GPA is 3.4-3.5 and recently took the MCAT so don't know my score yet. (Alhumdulillah ECs are good). I've been reading posts regarding the SMP but still can't decide. Any comments/advice/info appreciated. JazakAllah khair.
