ramadhan mubarak everyone! iA interviews and acceptances for all!

As'salaamu Alaykum Wa'Ra7matullaahi Wa'barakatu7u!

How have I missed this thread for this long. Ramadan Mubarak, kull `aam wa antum bikhair! , May Allah azza wajall make your siyyam (fast) easy and accept, Ameen!

To get you caught up about me, I am undergrad (biochemistry major-profile). I started wearing hijab in 9th grade, still hijaabi. I wear it to clinicals and to observe during surgery. The shaking hand issue-easy to avoid with practice. I have been in circumstances where I was completely surrounded by doctors and all but one were male-I kindly smiled and exlpained and moved on-not a BIG DEAL.

The Sunnah The Betta!

Where is everyone? busy with ramzan? hope everyone's interviews/applications are going well.

don't you know? SDN is HARAM in ramadan! we must abstain from food, water, sex, and pointless socializing on SDN. anyways..i hope your interview went well a few mondays ago (or whenever it was)..please pray for me as well, had 2 interviews and got 2 more comin up..
peace be upon you all

is anyone fasting during their interviews? jus wonderin...

You don't really have a choice, do you? It's your religion...
actually if you're travelling, its completely permissible to not fast and to make up the fast later, which i would assume is what most people are doing...

not I said the fly...fasting is def. doable unless you're gonna be driving a ridiculous amount and aren't on enough sleep and it will impact your performance...you're def. excused for breaking your fast if you travel, and i would too, if i felt it would negatively impact my performance..but if it won't, then again, it's up to you and only you.. one of the hardest things about fasting during interviews is the bad breath! be aware of that and don't whisper to the guy/girl sitting next to you lol..also, not eating lunch with the rest of the people might make a couple people uncomfortable but ISS ALL GOOD..

I didn't fast for my last interview, I was to exhausted from travelling. I feel bad that I didn't but inshAllah I will be making them up after Ramadan.

salaam everybody, 4th year med student in Philly, full out punjabi munda from Lahore, moved to the states when I was 6, grew up in NY, hope everyone is having fun, hang in there

AoA.

Well so far I've had one interview during ramzan, and i had to drive 5 hours for that... and yes i did fast... it honestly wasnt that bad.. i mean...you had to be at the school by 8:30 anyways...so after fajar, i just stayed awake, read over my secondary application... and drove to NSU... And about the bad breath.. lol.. i was concerned about that too....but here's what you do.. Just request the school to give you a morning interview instead of the afternoon..... so this way your breath wont stink infront of the most important ppl--your interviewers. During lunch, it was no biggie..... i just ended up talking to some of the med students...who werent really eating aswell...

salaam jawad,
may I ask you when you were complete at UIC? I've been waiting for one desperately. I've also been "Applicant in process" as opposed to "Application is in process" for about 2 weeks. Did you see that change in your status before your invitation? If so, how long were you "applicant in process" before receiving the invitation? thanks and Good luck on your interview. Just realized...couldn't tuesday be EID?? What are you going to do if it is? InshAllah you will do fine.

wassalam

Eid is monday my brother..

Eid is monday my brother..

Well it could be tueday. because today is the 27th
sat= 28
sun=29
(depending on if we see the moon)
mon=30/eid ?
tues: eid?

some ppl started a day later though for them i guess its sun or monday.

it's monday if you live in the US of A. it has been decided that the US will follow scientific lunar calendar predictions so now we actually know when eid is gonna be for the next decade in the us (maybe even longer).

Umm i think i was complete 8-3 and got an interview invite 9-29. i did NOT see a change in my status.

Hope that helps

I'm a muslim (Indian) 3rd year undergrad. It's good to know there are so many muslims applying to med schools...in America too! Mashallah! I'm from Canada and I keep hearing horror stories about racial profiling in America from well meaning 🙄 people.

Good luck to all of you!

Don't feel too bad...remember: "Your Lord does not wish hardship for you" (don't remember the exact verse number) 🙂
Does anyone else have trouble fasting for an entire month? I always get really really weak after the two weeks or so and end up having to stop😳 Looks like I'll have a good two weeks to make up this year...

hmm. that's wierd. we live in the orlando area, and we still do it the old school way. we see if there's a crescent or not and eid starts respectively.

Woa... the second person I've "met" who's from Benedictine..... a month ago, i didnt even know this uni existed.... and then I met my friend's wife who recently moved to florida....when I asked her what uni she went to, I was like "huh, repeat that again plz" lol... she was just complaining how the classes at FAU were super large compared to at Benedictine... Anyways, Good luck on your MCAT!
