Well I got notification from ETSU and UT memphis and I must say it is not good news 🙁 . I got put on hold at ETSU, and memphis says a final decisions has not been made on my application. Is that the same thing as waitlisted??

That is good news. You did not get rejected, right? Assuming even odds, only 25% of in-state applicants who interview at ETSU and UTM get rejected at both. At this point, the quality of the applicants who interview would tend to go down since all the top prospects already got theirs. In other words, will will most likely fair better than subsequent applicants.
Yeah I guess I could look at it as being positive that I didnt get rejected, but I am still confused about whether UT saying they have not made a final decision is the same thing as a waitlist??
Still kinda upsetting though b/c i thought my stats were pretty good for acceptance to one of those schools.

Hey futrorthodr, who did you interview with at UT? Did you think that it went well?
I'm interviewing at UT on monday! I'm kind of nervous, my first interview ever (i know it's kind of late, i'm a post-baccer). It might say this somewhere earlier in this thread, but how long does it usually take them to get back to you after the interview? Dean Strothers told me the committee meets thurs and fri of every week; does this mean I'll know by next week? I don't expect that, but it would be nice...
Addicted to SDN,
Hey I interviewed with Dr. Park in memphis and then Dr. Delozier in Nashville on Wed Jan. 26th. I felt the one with Dr. Park went pretty well, and the one with Dr. Delozier didn't go as well as I could of hoped but I don't feel it was bad.
Still kinda confused about their letter to me. It said:
The Comm. of Admin has reviewed your app for admission. Our purpose of notifying you at this time is to let you know the admin. comm. has not made a final decision on your application.
Does that mean I am on a waitlist, on hold, or they havent gotten to me yet??
What exactly is the difference b/w on hold and waitlisted???
Oh by the way my stats are:
Cum 3.5 GPA
A 4.0 the last 2 years
1st MCAT 22
2nd MCAT 31
Think it could be my first poor mcat score that is holding me back??
JMMMM,
Hey I had my interview on Monday Jan. 24th and got this notice today the 4th of Feburary.

Sounds like they just haven't made a final decision yet. It could be that your two interviewers disagreed with each otehr in regards to you (it happens).

I agree. When I interviewed there just recently Mrs Harris broke down the different responses they could give you: Accepted, No descision has been made yet, alternate list, waitlist, and rejected. They said that if an interviewer did not show up during the ad com meeting or if your intrviewers disagreed then they would send you a "no decision has been made yet" response.
Well one of my interviewers was a plastic surgeon and does not reside in Memphis so I guess it is possible that he just couldnt phone in or make the adcom committee that week right?? As you can see I am holding out all hope as UT was my #1 choice. 🙁 😀

What's the differnce in the alternate list vs. the waitlist? ... I interviewed on 1/25 and have received nothing.

I can't believe this... 🙁
Got my rejection letter from ETSU today.
To be fair, my interview there was probably the worst of my interviews. I got one guy whose English skills were not very good, and while he was attentive, he had a very hard time forming a timeline of where I've been over the last few years. Then there was the doctor who proceeded to quiz me over protease inhibitors and mad cow disease.
I just don't get it. I grew up on a farm, have worked on a farm all of my life. Grew up in east Tennessee. Maybe it's that I've been in Atlanta, southern Cali, and London. Maybe it was my quitting law school... Maybe I have a prof who was less than flattering on a letter of rec... Maybe it's that I haven't taken a science course in several years... Maybe the sum of all of the above.
I'm just really confused and dejected now. 😕 🙁
I just gotta believe I'm gettin' in somewhere, and ETSU was not meant to be. [Annihilates Johnson City in mind and proceeds into the night and the streets of Knoxville with a smile]

Hey freaker, dont feel bad, i got the same rejection letter in the mail today from ETSU. Sounds like you and I had the same interviewer, Dr. Johnson, who quizzed me about prions, etc. I guess there is still hope for UT.
Good Luck

I am really trying to feel sorry for you (not being sarcastic here), but you got seven interviews to my two. Only getting two interviews and a rejection from ETSU. Imagine how I feel.

I hear ya, bud. Memphis has a lot of slots, so I'm hoping for the best...let's say for the both of us.
And, Dr. Johnson is tough. I had him. He really threw me but he obviously gives the same questions to everyone though. I would love to know what it is, exactly, that he is looking for when asking those questions.ezmoney1 said:Hey freaker, dont feel bad, i got the same rejection letter in the mail today from ETSU. Well, I knew that the question was coming because I saw it on the interview feedback site. Rickets is really making a comeback in our society, and it is a really big problem.
Freaker, let's think this through. Let's assume that every in-state student applies to both ETSU and UTM. ETSU interviews 200 in-state students every year, and UTM interviews over 300. Fifty-five of the students who interview at ETSU enroll at ETSU, and there are about 145 in-state spots at UTM. Therefore, 145 students applied at ETSU, were interviewed, and will not attend. In theory, interviewees at ETSU were judged more competitive than non-interviewees. Assuming that ETSU and UTM use the same criteria for evaluating applicants, it stands to reason that not only are rejected ETSU interviewees more competitive at UTM, but that the number of those applicants equals the total number of spots at UTM! In other words, we have the inside track!

Not neccessarily. ETSU is looking for a certain type of applicant. For example, if your record shows that you don't have an interest in rural medicine or primary care, despite your academic stats, you are not going to get in. UT Memphis is looking for something totally different...I am not sure what though. All I know is that its a crapshoot and 3/4 of the spots at UT are already filled (that is people have already sent their deposits). Hopefully, they will go somewhere else. 😀

In case you are curious, my deposit is holding a spot at UT Memphis until I get my financial aid report back. Then I'll be withdrawing at that point.Addicted To SDN said:Not neccessarily. Oh and they usually except 40 people off of their wailist...three years ago they accepted 80...they had to put people they rejected on their waitlist. At least, that is what I heard from their M3s.

Yeah hopefully, there are more people like you...no offense. I really love UT Memphis and I can't wait to hear back from them. That school is awesome...I just hope I am what they are looking for.

Me too. Unless $$ falls from the sky, I'll be giving back spots at UT and ETSU. (I'm about 90% set on UK now, assuming my in-state tuition request gets approved).
Did anybody else here get the same response from UT memphis post-interview saying that they had not made a final decision on your application??
If you did get that response have you heard anything since then??
Thanks

Let me know when you have talked to the friend of the friend.
Like the subject says, anyone know of an "Official ETSU class of 2009" thread?
Haven't seen one yet.

Do any of you who are hoping for UT live in Memphis? And thanks for the information about the secondary.

Yeah, I'll be at UT this fall and live in the Germantown area 👍
These adcoms are really playing with my emotions!! They keep putting me on hold post-interview, on a waitlist, or telling me that they havent made a final decision. I should have never told them that some of my weaknesses are that I can be impatient, and worry to much. 😀 Oh well let more waiting begin 😡
So no one here has been told by UT that a final decision has yet to be made on their application??

I received the same letter last year saying that they had not yet made a decision about my application. I had to wait until April 1 (great date) for them to tell me that I was on the waitlist. I know this is not what you want to hear, but you just have to be patient. I ended up not getting in my first year off the waitlist, but I was accepted this year. Hopefully they won't make you wait like I had to. Good luck with everything though

To address prior questions, I have a friend who didn't get an interview at ETSU but just got in yesterday to UT Memphis. Wierdness! This is his third time applying to med school. His MCAT suffered but he pulled it up this past April. He got in to some D.O. schools and Meharry, and now UT Memphis but not ETSU. Sad for me, happy for him!
To second Geronimo's implied thought...the admissions process for medical school makes absolutely no sense to us applicants. I can't for the life of me figure out why certain schools accepted me (or interviewed me) and others didn't (e.g., accepted to ETSU, rejected pre-secondary to Vandy 👎 , still no word on UT, many other acceptances out of state, etc.) Just keep the faith and you'll end up where you need to be. For what it's worth....
I met someone at Quillen who was from NC. What this guy did was cool. ETSU arranged a contract for him between him and a hospital for when he graduated. The contract was non-binding (he could back out if he wanted to). This contract somehow ensured him "in-state" status and he got a tuition break. I would ask around about this. Congratulations on your acceptance! Are you a "for-sure" Quillen student, samboo, or are you still looking at other options?

I think I met the same NC guy, he was from asheville and had also bought a house in JC. I loved ETSU. It felt like home and has the RPCT, which is def a plus. The only drawback is the out of state tuition. I talked to Dr. Taylor today about est res, sadly he was vague.

Just got back from UTM. Very tired. Top often repeated lines during AdCom tour:
1) The clinicals are outstanding!
2) Well, this is the food court...
3) Yeah, we all have a lot of fun in Memphis.
4) Well, this is the food court...
5) Do NOT move into Goodman Hall.
6) Well, this is the food court...
7) I really wish we could show you the anatomy lab.
8) Well, this is the food court...
9) Yeah, that's the biggest hospital in TN, and we are tearing it down.
10) Well, this is the food court...
(Godness, enough with blasted food court!!!)

What I want to know is when I'm going to get my letter from UT. President's Day is on Monday so no letters are going to move then. What type of envelope do acceptance letters come in? Big and think I suppose.
