Anyone applying to the Ros. Frank program?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I applied, but I haven't heard back from them.

When is the app due?

What benefits and draw backs do you see to the program?

hey chaeymay, is that ur picture on the icon you have?

No, it's Rachel Bilson aka Summer on The OC.

All the info is here: http://www.rosalindfranklin.edu/srhs/bms/#Mission

The deadline is 6/1. The biggest advantage is that you're guaranteed an interview if you apply while you're in the program. I liked how you can pick a track to explore while you're in the program. I picked the healthcare management track, but you could also pick a research track. The reason I'm not going to the program is because I got into programs that ranked higher on my list, but I don't think that there's anything inherently wrong with this program. It's a combo of classes in the med school, grad school, and pod school.

hey chaeymay-

which smps have you been accepted to? are you leaning towards one? what factors are you taking into account with your decision? thanks!

I got into Loyola MAMS, EVMS, Georgetown, Columbia MS Nutrition, and BU MAMS. I'm waiting to hear from Ros Franklin, Tulane Pharm, and Tulane ACP. I'm leaning towards GTown, but if I get into Tulane's ACP it will be a really tough decision. I'm basically looking at which programs will give me the greatest chance at getting into med school ASAP. Gtown has 85% success rate (albeit over 2 years) while Tulane ACP has a 90% success rate in 1 year. Gtown and Tulane also play up my strengths - physio, anatomy, endocrinology, nutrition - while the other programs focus on subjects that are tougher for me - biochem, cell bio. I also like Gtown's block schedule cuz I can focus on one med class at a time, and Tulane ACP has a very light schedule so I can focus as well. Basically you just have to look at what program fits your needs and plays to your strengths.

nice! its great that you have so many options. i appliled to evms, drexel and rfu..basically programs that didnt have a problem w/ a 2.7 and a 33. im in the upper 1/3 on the waitlist at evms, im really hoping to get into that one. good luck with your decision!

You could probably get into BU and Loyola with your stats. That's a great MCAT!

What is evms like? Nice school? Nice area? Fun environment aside from school?

On the application it says " Prerequisite courses must be completed prior to July 24th. If any of the required courses have not yet been completed, please indicate the date of the course will be completed in the "grade" section. Failure to complete these courses prior to marticulation would render a candidate ineligible for the program."

I plan to take the second semester of physics this summer. I will complete it prior to marticulation (if accepted) but it will not be completed before july 24th. Will this pose a problem? I will email the school about this but does anyone on SDN know about how strict/literal they are on this July 24th policy?

Also when exactly does the program start?

· Supporting materials (recommendations, transcripts and test scores) must be submitted no later than June 15th (postmark).

· Files are reviewed on a rolling basis through July.

· Acceptances are made in cycles between April and July.

· Classes begin in late July.

I got their complete notice in the mail, so know that you'll get that much.

I applied to the RF program and called about my status a couple of weeks ago. I believe that they should be sending out the acceptances any day now. I'm not sure if I'm going to go, as its a new program and not yet established. Their old program seemed to be pretty good (my friend got accepted to RF Med through that program) so I assume that a revamp can't be too bad. My first choice would be Tulane's Pharm, but RF wouldnt be too shabby either.

hey guys,

im waitlisted at rfu/cms. do you think itll hurt any chance i have of getting in off the waitlist if i apply (and most prob get accepted) to the bms program? anyone with a similar fear? thanks!

I thought they changed everything so now there is no link whatsoever between the program and the med school?

there's no guarantee of acceptace, but everybody who enrolls in the program is offered an interview.

while I would be worried that the school would say "We got this guy's money anyways next year, no need to accept him to medical school." the graduate admissions office and the medical admissions office do not compare who is applying to both programs. This was a concern with a lot of current APers who were waitlisted for CMS last year. So apply away!

Hey everyone, has anyone received any decisions from RFU yet? I have been trying to reach them, but no one picks up the phone 🙁

Apperently it is going to be reviewed next week and descisions will be made end of the week and beginning of the following week. The lady on the phone is pretty cool, she'll tell you exactly what to expect.

Is it rolling admissions?

I still need to send out my app to RFU ASAP!!!! :scared:

I haven't received an acceptance and my guess is that it is not rolling admissions.

No acceptances for APs this year given yet but our final neuro curve just came in. Smaller final curve: 3.8 (midterm was 4.76).

Well if they hold on to their last, unofficial, "wink, wink" 3.0 deal then it looks good.
this is a thread about next years BMS program, not this years last APers.

I meant has the AP (or is it called the BMS programs now) accepted people for the masters program starting this coming fall?

Good luck to you current APers 👍

Just wanted to update everyone: I called the admissions office, and they are making decisions this week. About 150 have applied and 120 are up for review this week. They said that they do rolling admissions, so they will accept a limited number this week. (They are only taking 100 total into the program.) They will also reject some people in this first round of decisions, and the rest of the applicants will be put in a waiting pool for the next review round. They also don't rank the waitlist.

Good luck to everyone, I hope we get in! :luck: :luck: :luck:

When I called the admissions office over 3 weeks ago now they told me the exact same thing and I still have not heard. Has anyone been accepted yet? I have less than one week to give notice on my apt. and move from halfway across the country and this is cutting it a little close.

I am finished with my post-bac and am now attempting to get a master's while reapplying to med schools.

my guess is they will send out decisions via snail-mail. i haven't had much correspondence with them via email or snail-mail, i just have called a couple times to find out about my app. if they do send them out via snail-mail, i may be one of the first to find out since i am in the chicago suburbs. i'll keep you posted.

hopeful: sorry to hear that they told you the same thing awhile ago. maybe you could call them up and explain your situation to see if they will let you know over the phone?

good luck again everyone :luck: , i'm really nervous and anxious too...

Do you think taking one of the prereqs this summer will hurt your chances? I will be taking the second half of physics at JC. How will they know if it transfers over correctly?

have they made desicions yet?

fyi - i called and was told that in the next couple hours or tommorrow some acceptances will go out.....finally, i hope to get an acceptance, even if it isn't to med school.....yet..... 😳

i love answering my own questions!

I emailed the director explaining that I needed to know soon because I had to make decisions for other programs and he said acceptances would be mailed out soon...he told me I was on the list and would get the letter next week 😀 If you don't hear by tomorrow, I would suggest sending him an email. Anyone else planning on taking the MCAT this summer? It's gonna be rough considering classes start before the test... 🙁
