Anyone applying to the Ros. Frank program?

So there is still a guaranteed interview. Do you guys have an idea of what this may mean? Will they still prehaps take a certain number of BMSers?

yes interviews are guaranteed for BMS students. But there will be no set number accepted. The will compare the BMS students to their standard applicant field and see how they match up. There will be no set acheivement level and no set number accepted.

Like any med school admissions, it will probably seem completely arbitrary and random at times 😳

What was the average gpa of the students in the program (gpa during the program)? I am asking this bc if someone was to do this program and didnt end up getting into rfu and the program was really hard and you got a low gpa, you would probably be screwed for other med schools with an even lower grad gpa.

Do people get 3.5gpa + in the program?

i contacted them a couple months ago and they said they weren't offering their post bacc program anymore.

The Applied Physiology program has been discontinued. That was the Post-bacc program with the *wink wink* bridge. The BMS program is still there last I heard.

The AP program was a masters program.

just got into the bms program...kinda weird, i got an acceptance packet in the mail but no email. pah well

IM IN BIOTCHES

for all of you with insanely low gpas (2.6), there is hope!

If you have not heard back from RFU yet, don't start fretting yet because they are still accepting people. i sent in my application a week after the deadline and I got my acceptance packet last week. So, I think they are still accepting people. However, i will not be attending RFU next year so hopefully that will open up a spot for someone who REALLY wants to attend RFU next year. Good luck everyone.

Wow you had a 2.6 gpa?

I think they are accepting a lot of people since so few applied this year.

I m not sure if i m gonna attend. I m gonna visit RFU and Loyola this weekend. I m worried about their 3.0 guarantee. I know its supposedly gone, but what is it replaced by? Are they gonna accept a certain number of BMSers? Or are BSMers pretty much on their own?

Many people got 3.5+ in the AP program this year. I know a few who 4.0'd it. I think most people who are confident enough in their study skills and work ethic who enter the program can dominate and get a 3.5+.

But don't get it twisted. These are med school classes with med schoolers who out preformed you in undergrad and/or on the mcat. You better have good reason to believe that you are going to be able to gun harder, and outpreform them in the medical school courses.

How did you do on the MCAT/GRE? I applied as well and Im still waiting to hear back.

the rest of my application is solid, so it makes up for the gpa. got a 33 on the mcat, taught MCAT(gchem/ochem) for the princeton review for 1.5 years, published author in alzheimers research, i was an EMT back in the day too. thank the lord they were able to see past my horrible gpa (evms/drexel not so much). be sure to check your regular mail though, i got my snail mail acceptance without ever getting an email. apparantly i was accepted june 28th but didnt know about it until july 3rd.

i'm most likely attending this one, unless by some miraculous feat i get pulled off the waitlist at evms. drexel can go to hell, i was complete there 1.5 months ago and theyre still not sure if they want to even interview me. just reject me already at least.

anyways. for everyone looking for a place to stay..i called the on campus housing office, they said they got 50 people on the waitlist, so yea..thats not happening. i called the 'woodlands' complex, the only one thats walking distance, and they do have units available. just ask them to email you all the applications and u can fax it to them, that way when we go to orientation..just sign the lease, move in and get ready to be hermits for 9 months.

im really excited about getting a fresh start. finally i got that freakin 2.6 gorilla off my back. my goal is to get a 3.5+, and since its a trimester, having 2 quarters worth of good grades walking into the interview will hopefully be enought to get me into RFU med school next year. easier said than done, man im ready to attack it though. see you all at 'mandatory' contintental breakfast on the 28th!

BMSers from what I have heard from what they told me are treated the same way as a regular applicant to the Med school. BMS is what replaced the AP program, and with that replacement the 3.0 (technically 2.96) guarantee is gone.

So is there any advantage to doing the BSM program?

the thing is...they say that up front to take a unified stance..but there is no way they can realistically compare you to the 'normal' applicant, because they garuntee you an interview. that already implies we wont be treated the same. plus the fact that we'll have 2 quarters of med school grades behind us by the time we interview..it all adds up to being treated differently. notice i said differently, not preferentially. so while they will not offer a preference of a BMSer over a regular applicant, common sense tells us we will be treated differently. they still define this program as a way to enhance med school applications...its still an smp desigined to give students an opportunity to prove themselves to adcoms. i think if you bust a 3.9 in med school classes, they will be impressed when u are interviewing. its a huge assumption, but i think its a rational conclusion. just gotta focus on gettingn that 4.0 right ? 😱

So how is the BMS program different from the AP program? BMS people are going to take classes with med students along with a lot of other grad students. So are there going to be like 200+ people in each class?

Does anyone know how classes are graded? Is it just based on the mean of the class? It seems like with this program, even if you get that magical 3.0, it won't help you with other med schools, only RFU. Right? I mean, most people getting into this program have somewhere around a 3.0, so getting a similar GPA in this program can hurt you, too.

Also, what's the real difference with this program and Barry? At Barry, there is no guaranteed interview and no classes with med students. Do you think a 3.5 at Barry weighs less than a 3.5 at RFU?

I am still waiting to hear back from RFU.

I dont know if I m reading into this too deeply but doesnt it seem like the "guarantee" remains? There never was an official guarantee before, more of an unofficial guarantee with your interview. Before to get the interview you needed a 3.0. Now you are guaranteed an interview if you complete the masters, which requires you to maintain a minimum 3.0 gpa.

I know that aiming for exactly a 3.0 is a bad idea, but lets say you get a 3.2 or 3.3 in the program, will that pretty much "guarantee" you an in (I know no one will know till this time next year, just speculating)?

This is beginning to look like a $50,000.00 gamble.

I dont know how much weight a masters degree at RFU will hold at other schools. It might just be a better idea to enroll at a local state school and take like 60 units of undergrad units and raise your undergrad gpa.

Can you defer your admission to the BMS program?

Congrats palmtree. I was given hope the day I read your post and I got my acceptance the same day. And yes, I also have a 2.6.

I've given RFU my intent to enroll with the deposit, but I am still waiting on MUO MS in Medical Sciences. Don't know which would be the "better" program. Such short notice!!!!!!!!!!!! 😡

so...i'm flying in on the 27th officially. anyone know if orientation is only on friday? i hope so..i gotta find a place to stay, get furniture, move in, and be ready for classes between the 27th and the 31st...yikes.

anyone know who came up with the ingenious idea to start the 'fall' semester on july 31st? beat them down i say

its like the blind leading the blind in this forum. You should contact the school with this question.

Though Im nearly sure the answer is "no" and you will have to reapply.

Do you think if I dont go......and then reapply for the program again next year I will be looked down upon by the program directors?

I think I really need a year off to travel, visit family, do stuff i put .........before I commit to med school.

I talked to one of the people running the program on Monday when I visited the school. They said that your interview is right in the beginning of the program......like in the first couple of weeks.

The 3.0 guarantee is completely gone (she really meant completely, no hints at it remaining). She said that your undergrad performance (GPA, mcat) and interview and peformance in the BMS program will determine if you get into CMS or not. But the main thing is that your undergrad performance will still be considered quite a bit.

so does that mean we should apply to med schools now? i was wondering when i should be doing that. 😱
people in the program, when are you applying?

may i ask who it was you were talking to about the program?

I talked to Caryn.....I think you can find her email on the BMS website.

Yea you should apply to amcas this year while you re doing the program.

why would the interview be in the beginning without knowing what ur performance is like in the bms program?

hopefully they wont take one look at my undergrad and go screamin for the hills.
i'm really looking to nuetralize the 2.6 with the program. oh well, lets just hope for the best

Yeah that scenario sounds scary familiar. I just got home from a visit to Chicago to find a place to live, check out the school, all that stuff. After two days of being home, I have started packing my things to leave for RFU this Saturday, I get a letter in the mail today.

"It is with great pleasure that I inform you that you have been admitted to the College of Grad Studies of the MUO as a grad student in the Masters Degree in Medical Sciences program for the 06-07 year."

I was on the first tier of their waitlist, and if I had been accepted sooner, I might have gone. Unfortunately I have passed the point of no return and RFU it is for me. Driving from San Diego to Chicago, should be fun, never taken quite a road trip.

RN007B: I sent MUO an email right after I got my letter declining the spot in their program. Good luck. Hopefully you havent hit the point of no return, if you would rather go to MUO.

Thanks forst003. I think I may have reached the point of no return though when I called today and was told to call back on Friday. I bought my plane ticket today.....i just can't wait any longer. I just didn't know which school would give me the best shot of getting into med school. After considering all things, I figured I'll just bust my ass at RFU. I am now doing a million things a day to prepare. BTW, where do you plan on living?
