I plan on attending ccom next year and I wanted to know how most students get involved with research? Primarily research with the spine.

At interviews they said something about applying for a summer research internship for the summer after first year but seeing that CCOM is near such a big city there has to be research going on. Does anyone know of academic research centers that would let MS-1 students volunteer for research.

Also is doing research detrimental for classes?

Typically prior to applying for the research fellowship there is a list sent out of all the faculty and their projects so you can talk to the ones you're interested in.

You can always do research with faculty at other hospitals/schools if they are willing to have you. The best way to go about this is just emailing them or their offices directly.

Will it detract from coursework? Depends on your time management skills. I will say though I didn't know enough until the end of first maybe second year to be useful at all. Thus I think an appropriate time to start research is AFTER you finish first year and know you didn't fail anatomy.

I've never understood why schools have white coat ceremonies before you even pass a class:thumbdown:
