Anyone heard from UCSF yet?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats!

I'm actually not in my apartment anymore and am home until Jan 2nd. I probably will have to drive 1.5 hours back to my college apartment to check my mail over break.. blargh!

Congrats to those who are invited for an interview.

If I don't hear from UCSF this week, I know that I don't need to worry about an interview. I have two more days, so my hopes are still up...blah!

Congrats everyone!
Too bad about your mail, Polarbear. Wish you good luck! Wish everyone else good luck as well! 🙂 :luck:

I actually got invited to interview for UCSF on Jan. 26th. Received the letter on Monday, and it was dated on the 15th. 🙂

I was a bit surprised the letter didn't include details of when to check in? it had my appointment time and place but didn't say to arrive how early as I've heard from others.

Would anyone know if there will be tours of the pharmacy school, or better yet, can some pharmacy students take us to sit in on lectures, please? 🙂

thank you.

OMG I just got an invite today for the 2/8 interview!!😱 I just can't believe it..I seriously was expecting a rejection letter because I just applied to the school as a long shot. So crazy, I swear this is like the best pre-xmas present to me...

Congrats! I was just wondering when your letter was postmarked and where you live? I guess they're sending out letters in batches, so I wonder when they'll be done with sending all their letters. Thanks! 🙂

Thanks Senzabee! My letter was dated Dec 19th and I live in Sacramento. Good luck!! =)

i haven't gotten anything yet 🙁 did they send the requests to your current address or your permanent address?

Hang in there chiq84, you never know there may be more letters sent out at a later time. My current and permanent address are the same. However, I recently moved and included my change of address via letter along with my supplemental application. Best of luck =)

I got an interview invite for UCSF on Feb. 15 @ 11:30 AM. I'm going to cancel the interview since I already got accepted to Touro. Most of you guys probably think I'm crazy since this is the school that everyone wants to go to, but I prefer Touro for its location. I really don't like living in the city.

To everyone invited for an interview,

could you please post your stats/experiences/EC activities? Thanks

I got an interview invite from UCSF today! My three months spent agonizing over those five damn essays were not in vain! Submitted my app on the last day too, I'm quite the procrastinator, I'm sure that will serve we well at Pharm school.

Anybody know if dates are assigned randomly or if not, how they decided on the dates?

I was just wondering if any out-of-staters have received anything. I know UCSF is a long shot for me since non-CA residents are the minority of those applying and accepted, but I just wanted to know. I almost hate being so far away because I know my mail will take longer to get to me...but how much longer?! :scared: It seems to be taking more than a couple of days to get to those within CA, so maybe I just have to wait til next week. Oh well, thanks and congrats to everyone so far!

Since I am a CA resident, I wish your statement were correct that there were a bonus to being a CA resident with regard to UCSF and UCSD. However, as I recall, that is not the case. I believe UCSF explicitly states on their website that there is no preference given to CA residents. Your chances should not be affected by your state of origin.

Haha, thanks. I actually know that they don't give preference to residents, but I guess I just know that I'm in the minority group anyways so it just feels like they do...especially when I hear you all got mail already! I know it's just that the majority of applicants are from CA, hence majority accepted are from CA. Just so I don't go insane, how long did your mail take to get to you and where do you live? Sorry everyone, now you guys know why I keep posting questions about where you live and when they mailed your letter out! Thanks again 🙂

I just got an invite for UCSF too. Regarding all those people that turned in their applications last minute, dont worry about it. UCSF did not review any applications until after the NOv. 1 deadline.

I was so certain I was doomed as I know rejections come after Christmas; I have the letter dated December 26th...phew!

why will it be dated the 26th?

hey,
does anyone know what are the interview dates for ucsf? it seems like they're all over the place. some ppl have interviews in late jan and early to mid feb. which days are there?

also, what does it mean to have a later interview?

how many ppl are they interviewing?

thanks!

Just been rejected 🙁 letter dated dec 22. i am outofstate. GPA 3.7

I am from California but currently living in Maryland, and I haven't heard from any schools yet, including UCSF. Most of my schools are in the West Coast. Very anxious. 🙁 According to my calculation, it's been about 10 days since the first people who received invitations, and regular post should take less than 10 days across the country???? Do you think? 😵

Statistics for 2006 Entering Class Acceptees taken from Pharmcas:

Number interviewed - 259
Number accepted - 122
Entering class size - 122
Number out-of-state - 18
Estimated male - 20.58%
Estimated female - 72.06%
Unknown/no reply - 7.35%

It looks like people that are going to the interview have almost 50% chance of getting in, which is pretty high, so pat yourself on the back if you got invited to the interview.

Got the rejection letter too...I'm kind of shocked. I don't know what I could have done wrong...I honestly thought I would've at least had an interview 🙁
Sigh...there goes my first choice.

Wow, the best Christmas gift, just received an interview invite from UCSF. Didn't think it was possible but for those who are sub 3.0 GPA and quite diverse in all areas like me, there is hope!!!

kernel you are very lucky because my gpa is 3.2 with research experience and Pharmacy experience, I do not know what elles I could have done to get an interview invitation. I think getting an invite has to do with luck

Very lucky. My overall GPA is 3.72, science 3.82, with both research and retail phramacy experience. I spent so much time doing those essay questions because I wanted to go here so bad...sigh, I'm gonna call them May 2nd to ask them what happened... I'm wondering if one my recommenders wrote me a crappy LOR...bleh...

Well.. the good thing is that at least they aren't wasting peoples time and money with false hope. 50% is quite nice for those interviewing. I would rather get a rejection than spend the effort only to find out later they aren't interested.

I haven't heard anything from UCSF. Like bubble girl.. I'm from California but currently residing elsewhere. I wouldn't exactly say it's my #1 choice.. but it's definately among my top picks. *sigh*... why bother? By this time I'm going to move ahead and reject myself right now before it comes by letter. Most people who were invited seemed to have gotten their invitation already... I am a loser.

I'm still completely in the dark.. I have not checked my mail since Wednesday last week... I am probably going to drive 1.5 hours just to check my mail.. :scared:

BubbleTeaGirl I have the same exact situation and I am going to freak out! I didn't have ANY mail today :scared: 🙁

I'm out-of-state and just received an interview letter today 🙂 you don't know how much I was relieved to get the good news, I literally jumped for joy at my mailbox. But for you out-of-staters, my letter was mailed on Dec 22 (Friday) and just arrived today, which took two postal days. I'm on the west coast, so mail may take a day or more to get to states further away.

Don't lose hope at all. Like another person wrote, if others decline their interview spot, they'll open it up to others. So no mail might be better because they may hold out for you.

Congradulations! and thanks for the sympathy! 😍 maybe I didn't get mail for the same reason...I can't sleep & I just want to go and check my mail box as soon as I can!

I got UCSF rejection letter yesterday. Letter sent on 12/22. 🙁
I just couldn't believe my eyes....

Senzabee, thanks for the info. It def. make us out-of-staters fell better. 🙂

Just got my rejection letter today too dated Dec. 26. Oh well be optimistic and try again next year.

I'm in NJ and just received my interview invitation today. The letter was mailed Dec. 22nd. My interview is Feb 3rd. Anyone else have that date?

Feb 3rd must be the out-of-state day. I'll be there 🙂

So I drove to my apartment 3 hours roundtrip and I recieved NOTHING!! I was at least expecting a timely rejection letter 😱

🙁

Its ok I guess, I wasn't expecting to get into UCSF anyway, congrats to everyone who got interviews

😀 received my letter yesterday 12/26. Interview on feb 3 for out of state. I'm so excited....and I just can't hide it.

i'm from LA and I got my invite yesterday for the feb 3 interview. it was weird because my letter was dated 12/26.

So I guess interview dates aren't entirely by region. And my letter was dated 12/26 too, I'm thinking to give us more time to reply by (since it was mailed over the Christmas weekend). Congrats to everyone so far 😀

i got my rejection letter yesterday and i live in sf. I can't believe ididn't get an interview AGAIN, after my second try. i guess ucsf and I just aren't meant to be. I have a 3.4 overall, BS from UC berkeley and both research and pharm experience. What else are they looking for?!? blah...

I got the rejection letter, and I'm from UCB too. So confused..
If I apply next year, what should I do to make a better application? Should we contact the admcom to see what the problem is?
Maybe the essay matters.
Do you think they give the same essay every year?

I am from UCB, too. with 3.7 GPA but still got rejection letter.....🙁
I think letter of recommendation matters.

Yeah, I'm totally confused as to what UCSF is looking for now. May 2nd is the date to find out though...

Still hoping its a mistake...

sure, recommendation letters matter but to what extent? i believe that i have great letters for a fact and that obviously didn't help for both apps. Since i have an avg GPA and a wide range of experiences and activities, i really don't think letters matter THAT much. So if its not the GPA or letters, possibly the actually essays???

last year, i asked about how i can improve my application and they said to retake ALL of my classes in which i got a C in. that means i have 4 classes to retake! What did i do? i decided to retake 1 of them this fall semester but i realized that decisions come out b4 my fall grades so it ended up not counting. so if you want to improve your app, start retaking classes in the spring and start rewriting your essays now.

Got my rejection letter today. 🙂
