Anyone heard from UCSF yet?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
it seems like they're giving out acceptances like rolling admissions. people who interviewed earlier get notices faster

Yay, congrats saran21! I read elsewhere that you're a fellow Trojan 🙂 I sure hope I get a nice surprise like you do soon!

YAY, congrats!!! I look forward to meeting you 🙂

congrats, but the good thing is can she get a refund from the airplane ticket to stockton? 😀

I am still in utter disbelief! I was rushing home from my Physics exam so that I can drive to LAX and catch my flight Sac. for my UOP interview and checked the mail to find my UCSF acceptance!!!!! So after I cried for a good 20 minutes, I called UOP to cancel my interview!
Zwigglez, not I can really join your facebook group!!

i read your story and it put the biggest smile on my face. it was such diverse roller coaster of emotions for you within a small time frame. for some reason i feel extra happy and excited for you. hope the physics exam went well

😎 <~~ you, the kewl soon to be pharmacist

(ps... i'm still smiling!... i think your story has made my day)

Thank you everyone 🙂
My stats are (nothing amazing):
BA from University of Southern CA (USC) in Psychology
3.91 cumulative GPA
3.89 Science GPA... took most of my science classes at a cc
1.5 yrs of Pharm experience
a Summer of evidence based experience (not really research...during my interview they asked me what else I could have done to prepare myself for the career I told them that I honestly want to further explore the research realm of pharmacy).

My interview was by no means perfect; but, I walked out feeling great (it was my first interview). I think I did ok on the essay given the circumstances!
I think what helped me was my other extracrics and leadership positions and the fact that I took classes in lots of diff area such as the arts, sociology, etc.

Senzabee... I read your stats and it looks like you will be my only Trojan classmate amongst the sea of Bruins and Bears 🙂 Fight Onnn!

Kae 🙂! This whole process has been more emotional than I expected... I just kept on telling myself if I don't get in... it wasnt meant... Best of luck to you!

Ohh yeah and I couldnt get a full refund on my plane ticket...they deducted $100 and gave me back $65... 🙂

wow, it looks like everyone that got in has a gpa of 3.7+...I don't have that type of gpa..🙁

Oh, I didn't get in yet!!! I'm hoping for a letter like yours though 😀

Got my acceptance from UCSF today. Letter dated 2/26. I interviewed on 2/3. I also got my UCSD letter yesterday. That letter was also dated 2/26. I interviewed there on 1/29. I totally don't know which way to go now. I'm not complaining, though. Good situation 🙂

What a small world! Yes, she is the sweetest girl. She really helped me before my interview and I called her the day after to tell her about the questions. She was such a concerned friend and really wanted to help. I was actually going to call her tomorrow and thank her for her help and let her know that it obviously worked! Best of luck to your fiance. I am keeping my fingers crossed for her (and you)...

Aww...thanks for the kind words. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as well!!

This is actually WORSE than when I was waiting for my own letters! I'm going crazy...so I sympathize with all of you!

Saran, Make sure when you call our friend to thank her....tell her that you talked to me and I said she's a gooz! You tell her, okay? 😀 :meanie:

I know! I am sorry for making you look like you're talking to yourself. After I typed the message I thought maybe I should omit some of the information... I was trying to protect myself from sounding crazy but instead made you look insane.

I will call her tomorrow and call her a gooz 😉 But, I will have to quote you on that one!

PharmCAS GPA = 3.9
Science GPA = 3.86
BS in Molecular Biology from UCSD Dec 2004
2 years biomedical research
1 summer clinical pharmacy experience back in 2003
Nontraditional community service type stuff (more like relationships with individual familes, etc. and not so much church retreat stuff or mission work. I'm not really religious)

Native Texan. Finally established CA residency in May 2005. VERY excited I get to keep that. 😉 No more out of state tuition for me!

Anyway, in case any of you were wondering, my UCSD interview felt great but my essay was atrocious. My UCSF interview was okay (I actually snagged my cuticle and started bleeding in 2 minutes after I sat down. LOL) and my essay was mediocre but probably adequate for the time given.

Part of me is super excited about UCSD's potential, but when I was actually applying, I was all about UCSF. It seems ridiculous to turn down UCSF after agonizing over that "insight into the human condition" essay for 2 months. If anybody else is in the same boat as me, please PM me, I'm really interested in motivating factors for UCSD vs. UCSF.

I know personally I didn't apply to UCSD because I wasn't interested in a school that wasn't accredited (even if eventually it will be) and honestly, UCSD will never have the reputation that UCSF has. Plus, don't you want to try out NorCal for a while? 🙂

Ok, I'm going to sound like a TOTAL wuss, but NorCal is REALLY COLD! My grandparents live in Piedmont and my mom lives in Oakland, so I visit there a lot. Right now a huge motivator for UCSF is that my boyfriend lives in San Mateo and this could put the end to the long distance thing. Not to mention practically infinite networking potential. However, UCSD is affiliated with Scripps Institution of Oceanography and several new drugs are being developed from aquatic life. Many of the profs from SIO are involved in the pharmacy school. (I actually was an undergrad research assistant for a lab at SIO). That is something UCSF can't offer. I totally wasn't concerned about the accreditation thing until Thaliagoo (I think that was the name) planted that seed of doubt saying that UCSD is in jeopardy of losing their candidate status. I thought about it for a while and spoke with a physician I know from UCSD and realized that there's no way a school like UCSD would ever let that happen. They'll be accredited soon enough.

congrats saran and pharmhopeful ! ! ! so now the official count is 4... 116 more spots left =)

First of all, congrats on both of you getting in. It seems like you both really deserved it 🙂
In regards to the whole UCSF vs UCSD thing, I applied to both schools, but if I got into UCSD, I would still go to UCSF. I think that UCSD will eventually be just as good of a school as UCSF, but I don't think they will reach that level in the next four years. I remember one of the UCSD staff talking about how the curriculum is still undergoing constant changes. For me, I'd rather have a school that already knows what works best for their students, and UCSD won't know this for a couple more years. Also, I don't know if I necessarily agree with the classes they take with med students. I think that certain classes should be emphasized more for med students and some more emphasized for pharmacy students. For example, at UCSD they take a principles of pharmacology class with the med students. I'd think we would need to know more specifics about this area than the med students.
For me, it comes down to what school I believe would prepare me best to be a pharmacist, and in my opinion, UCSF is that school.
Good luck on making your decision and congrats once again on getting in. 😀

Wow! I sincerely thank you for your very level-headed point of view. So far, my SD friends are like "UCSD!" and my bay area friends are like "UCSF!" and my advisor at work is like "UCSF!" but he doesn't know anything about UCSD. My roommate suggested pinning the letters to the wall and blind folding me and having me throw darts!
You bring up some very important points. Being a UCSD alum, I get irrationally offended whenever anyone says something even remotely negative about the school (hey, at least I identify that it's irrational), so I really like that you agree with me that UCSD has the potential to be as amazing as UCSF one day. They have a unique approach, but I do agree that the fact that their curriculum is constantly changing could cause a bit of unrest being a student there. I think I eventually want to return to San Diego and would probably try to get a residency in the area, but that doesn't mean I can't move for 4 years in the meantime. Anyway, thanks again for your input. Extremely helpful.

pharmhopeful........A spinning wheel and a dart....that's all I'm saying!

And if it lands on SD.....make it best out of 3!!! 😉

I got my UCSD acceptance last week and got my UCSF acceptance letter today. It's funny that instead of jumping for joy I am agonizing over which to accept. I'm in the bay already for a few years now and I was thinking about a nice change of pace in SD. UCSD has a brand new pharmacy building and library and they threw in a partial scholarship with the acceptance.

But in spite of all that I feel like it would be foolish to pass up on the opportunity to attend an established world-class program at UCSF. So most likely I'll go to UCSF.

Futuredruggist, you interviewed on the last day, right? If that's so, then I can no longer console myself that it's just that those who interviewed earlier will hear earlier.

for UCSF, it's also dated 2/26? takes a long time to get if ur already in the bay? is it a different date?

Congrats futuredruggist and hopefully I will see you in the Fall!

I interviewed on Feb 15 and my letter was dated March 1.

Opa you were right...interviewees from the latest date are getting letters. I can no longer console myself either! My interview was on the 9th. When was yours?

Me too:scared: . I can't sleep, I am grouchy and mean to my family. All I can hope now is they review the files randomly and my file hasn't been touched by them yet. Let's just hope for the best🙁

that's how they said they do it on the website. looks pretty random to me.

Just wanted to congratulate everyone who has received an acceptance to UCSF.. what a great accomplishment and indescribable moment-of-your-life it must be. I just keep praying for the day I will be able to share in this experience 🙂 :luck:

Congrats to all who got in, but since noone has been informed of being rejected post-interview as far as I know, having not heard by now decreases our chances of acceptance. It's hardly hopeless, but my assessment pre-interview was about 45% (no additional chance). After my interview, I thought my chances were in the 80 to 90% range. Now, as the days go by, my feelings drift back towards 50/50. Sorta like the Monty Hall problem in reverse.

Maybe some people got rejections already and just didn't post.

I got my acceptance letter today!!! The letter is dated March 1st, and I was the afternoon interview on February 15th. If anyone wants to know I can give my stats and a detail of how my interview went 😉

I got my acceptance letter today!!! The letter is dated March 1st, and I was the afternoon interview on February 15th. It was my second interview, but I got in!!! I can't stop shaking cause I'm so happy😀 Oh my gosh, I really didn't think they would accept me. If anyone wants to know I can give my stats and a detail of how my interview went 😉

i would like to know. plus, where are you from?

I'm graduating from UC Berkeley this semester with a B.S. in Chemistry. My culmulative GPA is 3.65. Actually I transferred from a community college into UC Berkeley. I'm from Valley Springs, CA which is where I get my mail but I go to school in Berkeley. This was my second interview, but I tried to be as honest as possible. My dad told me to be myself and so I was. Actually after the interview I wasn't sure that it went so well cause I didn't ask many questions like you're supposed to. I think what helped me out is that I'm a ballet teacher, and I commute 5-6 hours every weekend to teach ballet. I've been doing that for many years now. I think that showed that I have a lot of commitment and leadership qualities. Before today though I was in an agonizing wait, and I had decided that I was going to stop doing that to myself. So for those of you still waiting I know how that feels, and please don't think about it. . .there's still lots more room ^_^
