PharmCAS Questions

Delano,

Sounds like a plan with one exception -- are you aware the University of Florida uses Pharmcas?😕

It can be frustrating at times but the one thing I like about Pharmcas it that your references only have to submit once and that's it.

I am not going to apply there. I had that there before I had made that decision about PharmCAS. I will remove it once I finalize my schools. For the most part I will replace it and UIW with 2 more TX pharm schools and leave USN as the only OOS pharm school.

Glad to hear. I had Florida on my list initially as well but I don't think I would get accepted and so I'm not keen on completing their required 3 applications only to have them reject me!

Yea that is just too much time. I already completed 1 app and will wait until after PCAT next month to complete the others.

hi all, i'm new to sdn so please bear with me if i do/write anything taboo.

so, i'm wondering "should i submit my pharmcas now or later?"

i'm pretty much done with the pharmcas application (finished the essay, got in my LORs, transcripts, etc), but i'm going to be taking the Oct 17 PCAT, so my scores won't get in until after then. i know that i can already submit the pharmcas app and have the scores be sent later, but is there any down-side to waiting? or is there a down-side to submitting without having taken the test yet? thanks for taking the time to read this.

Good luck for all those applying for Fall 2010!

Grrr....I still don't have my GPA. It's been 2 weeks. Seriously.
I submitted my PharmCAS application on September 15 and I got my GPA on September 24. Hopefully they send it during this Monday's mailing.

are the secondaries done online like pharmcas after submitting? or do the supplementaries have to be completed separately and mailed to the school?

Ok so I submitted my pharmcas app and it was mailed out last monday 9/24. One school acknowledged receipt that same day but the other two still have not let me know that they have recieved it yet. If a school doesn't get it electronically but through snail mail, about how long does it take for them to email you to let you know they got it? I checked the websites for the other two schools and both state they will email confirmation to you when they recieve the app. I am planning on emailing the schools on Monday since that will be two weeks and I would be surprised if it took longer than that to recieve my app and at least process it to the point of acknowledging that they got it.

Now.

You never wait for anything when applying to pharmacy school as many applications have been out since June and its not even considered early if you apply now. Always apply asap. Let the rolling parts (i.e. recommendations, PCAT, transcript) come as they come, but submit asap. Can't go wrong with that.

Hey I was wondering if anyone knew where you were supposed to input AP classes taken in high school on the courses taken section on pharmcas. I couldn't find any special designation for them. Please help!

i got everything in except for the october pcat I already esubmit.

GOOd LUCK

i had the same question as well, but i got an answer from pharmcas! 🙂

This is the response from PharmCas: Please enter your Advanced Placement credits under the first semester attended at the post-secondary institution where the AP credit was awarded. You will enter the test name and subject in the course title and prefix fields, the Grade will be "CR" for Credit, and the PharmCAS Grade will be "N/A." Please be sure to add the correct number of credit hours earned for each AP exam, and add the Special Classification "Advanced Placement", along with the test score, if known. PharmCAS does not require a copy of the AP test score report, but your designated Pharmacy schools may. Please check with the schools to determine their requirements for AP score reports

Please input your AP coursework exactly as it appears on your transcript, whether it be the test name or the course name that appears on your transcript – please input this information exactly the same in your coursework section. Please list your AP courses in the FIRST semester of the institution where it was awarded, regardless of when you actually took the course/test.

I have a question along the same lines as the above post, if I have only 1 Rec letter but I want Pharmcas to begin verifying my GPA, can I submit now?

Will Pharmcas forward the following 2 recommendations when they become available?

What about for AP Calc? I took Calc BC, which means I got two different scores. I got a 5 and a 4. Which test score do I put down?

It says on the instructions to list your courses exactly as it appears on your transcript. So if it's listed on the transcript as "INTGR DIFF EQUA APPX" ... that's what we put down? Even if we know the actual course name (Integration, Differential Equations and Approximation)? Common sense says just follow the directions, but it just ... looks so wrong. I wanted to double-check....

Anyone that took the PCAT on August 22 has the date been uploaded to your Pharmcas page yet? I just want to make sure mine didn't get lost in the mail on its way to Pharmcas. Thanks.

My August 22nd PCAT got uploaded to pharmCAS over a week ago

From my understanding, the answer is yes. I emailed PharmCAS before and they told me they would.

Yup they came out a bit ago. Your scores must have been voided.

hi
I will take PCAT on Oct 17 and I chose PharmCAS as a score recepient. Some schools want my PCAT score to be sent to PharmCAS no later than Dec 1.

If I chose PharmCAS as a recepient, will they send my scores or Do I have to request them to be sent to PharmCAS?

Will my PCAT scores get to Pharmcas by Dec 1?
because I heard that it will take 6 weeks to know ur results?

Thank you for ur help

Thanks for the information. I emailed Pharmcas - so hopefully they can give me some answer.

As long as you picked Pharmcas as your recipient and the individual school wanted them sent only to Pharmcas - you are fine. Some schools, few, may want the scores sent directly to them - so you would have to add them as a recipient also.

I will let you know when Pharmcas finally gets my scores. The other replies to my question, definitely got there scores to Pharmcas in a timely manner. If that is the case for you, you should meet the Dec 1 deadline.

What do you mean Pharmcas as recipient? When I registered for the pcat, they asked me which 3 schools, so i chose the 3. Shouldn't these schools already got the pcat by now? Why would they wait for pharmcas? I'm confused, cuz i don't see anything in the pcat box in pharmcas. Help plzzzzzz.

Schools prefer scores through PHARMCAS, so that probably means you will have to go through Pearson and pay an extra $20 just to send your scores to PHARMCAS. It's lame. I didn't know about this either until AFTER I sent my scores to schools. Pearson should just automatically send scores to PHARMCAS 😡

When you select schools when signing up for the PCAT you can select PharmCAS as one of your schools.

thanks for all your help... Just wanna clarify again; so if you select pharmCAS as a score recipient, Pearson will autmotically send my scores to PHARMCAS as soon as my result comes out right (I don't have to request it right?)?

I only apply to the schools that use PHARMCAS; so, if pharmcas receive my scores, they will forward the scores to all my designated schools right?
thank you!

That is correct.

Just wanted to let you know that Pharmcas did not post that they received my tests because I stupidly did not have my PCAT CID# in the "my profile/my application" part on Pharmcas. I updated it this morning and Pharmcas said it could take about 2 days to upload them and then send them to my schools.

SO MAKE SURE YOUR PCAT CID# is on your Pharmcas application.

So I know many people on here has filled out PharmCAS or is currently doing so..... no opinions whatsoever?

I asked one of my supervisors to write me a LOR and she said yes. It's been probably about 2 weeks since I sent her the electronic form and on PharmCAS it still says that they are waiting for the form. It says that the letter was sent to her, but I don't know if she actually received it or filled it out. I asked her to fill out another LOR form for something else and I didn't want to keep bothering her with questions.

What my question is: How long did it take for PharmCAS to receive your LOR's after you electronically sent it to your writers? Is the form long? Or is she just taking her time writing it?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure you only in-put the Calc BC score because the other AB score is actually just a composite

Hi all!
Got a question regarding the pharmcas grades and your actual grades. So, when I was an undergrad, I took some courses that did not go so well so I went back to repeat them. I know pharmcas average the two out. Now, my question is whether the pharm schools actually look at the actual transcript to see that I made improvement or they usually look to pharmcas grading. Cause if with pharmcas, my GPA is down about .2 points from the transcript. I'm so worry now cause the pharmcas grades look depressing compare to my overall transcript cause they only calculate certain classes.🙁

Hey Roziak, I was nervous about my eLOR's too. My writers took their time with my letters and I must have hit that resend button about 10 times before I got the relief to see "submitted" on the status. Since its done through email I think that Pharmcas gets the elor as soon as the writer submits it in, its just the matter of time that the writer takes to complete the form that matters. I had to wait a month+ for all three of my forms to be submitted.

I don't think the form itself is long, from what I saw on Pharmcas, there's a section that concerns the writer's relation to you, a section for a check list of your qualities, and another to write the actual letter...I'm sure someone will correct me if I left out a section but I think that was pretty much it.

I read on sdn to get my elors in as soon as possible so I requested them early, and even then I had to wait it out. In my opinion your writer is just taking her time - to possibly write you a great letter, but then again two weeks is a short time to give a person to write an elor.

Good Luck

Sorry no one answered and I will. I asked the admission from two universities in California. They said it is okay if you abbreviate when there is not enough space, and they said they will understand. They said you can even use another sheet if you feel you really want to fit everything in. But, I would assume it is better to write out the whole thing if you have the space available

Also, In my case I am from quarter system university, so we have more numbers of courses so there was no room for me to list all the courses in for example in the section "General Chemistry". There were only 5 spaces but I had 6 courses including the lab, so I had to use an extra sheet. Hopefully that answers your question

I went to a few open houses and talked with advisers while there....majority stated the admission panel looks over your courses grade by grade and sometimes recalculate ur gpa. Then again, they could be lying to me.... :scared: Never hurts to call the schools you are interested in....good luck. :xf:

the schools you apply to are probably going to look at actual grades, especially for repeated courses. A few schools have you recalculate your gpa as part of the supplemental, using their "rules" for calculating.

Hi guys,
Anyone notice how long pharmcas' credit card payment situation has been down? I was going to add more schools but could not pay by credit card (money order is available though😱). I'm hoping that it'll be up soon.😳

Yeah, I'm in the same situation. It was really frustrating to have everything ready and then be greeted by that lovely red message at e-submit.

I just got an email back from their support staff. Supposedly, it'll be back up "within 72 hours." >:O

I'm sure this has been answered, because everyone must have to do it, but how the heck does one list pharmacist shadowing on PharmCAS? It's an "extracurricular activity," right? And we only list each activity once, right? And the directions are kind of weak.

Here's what I'm thinking.

Name of organization: Retail Pharmacy
Position title/brief description: [something like] I observed pharmacists at work at these three locations.

And then just fill in start date and total hours. Eh? What did you do?

I never shadowed, but if I did, I certainly wouldn't call it an extracurricular activity. It's more of a self-enlightenment thing - an experience you can talk about in your personal statements and interviews. Unless you went shadowing for 3+ months on a weekly basis and accrued certain number of hours - only then would it be significant enough to put down, imo.

But that's my opinion. I'm sure other people have put it down, so see what they say.

Thanks for the input. I see your point, but I'm inclined to disagree; I'd like to hear more responses. Certainly it is odd to call it an "extracurricular activity." On the other hand, I'm certain that adcoms will want to be able to quickly discern how familiar an applicant is with health care environments, and accordingly, I imagine they will expect applicants to note shadowing experiences somewhere on the application. There just doesn't seem to be a better spot than under "extracurricular activities."

I didn't find it really applicable anywhere in PharmCAS when I applied last year. I instead worked the experiences into my personal statement and that way could really show that it was a beneficial experience.

I submitted pharmcas in September and put shadowing under extracurriculars. I didn't know where else to put it and I needed a spot to have it just in case it wasn't mentioned in my personal statement or supplementals.
