Hello SDN,
For reference, I am a senior in high school. I was wondering whether I should use my AP Credits, specifically my hard science credits (AP Bio, AP Chem), to bypass my college's 101 courses. I know that skipping these introductory courses would have to be supplanted by associated upper level courses (Which are harder?) to fulfill prereqs.
The program at my undergraduate institution has already explicitly told us that we will not be able to graduate under 4 years, so I fail to see the merits of forging the introductory courses just to take harder classes. Especially since I’m not convinced that the rigor of AP classes matches that of college-level 101 courses, and I worry they might leave me underprepared for the MCAT and upper-level coursework.
The benefits I could see from using my AP Credits is it would allow me to participate in internships and study abroad programs or avoid the "weed-out" and packed 101 classes.
Any and all advice is appreciated, especially from premeds!
