(In honor of last year) If & How you're staying sane: I don't think I am.

I've heard nothing aside from two rejections until this, and it's been torture. Who knew one offer could provide so much relief 🙂

Congrats! Wow I sure hope you don't live too far away- not a lot of time for travel planning!

Kayak is super cheap, and ive heard rumors that each time you look up a flight to somewhere the website can log that to show more expensive flights bc you "really want to go" and so they know youll get more desperate. Could be conspiracy theory, but my flights tend to stay cheap!

I signed up for TSA pre-check last year because I fly a lot and I wanted to bypass all those crazy security lines and not have to take off my shoes and whatnot BUT the unfortunate thing is that almost no airline allows you to enter your "Known Traveler Number" if you buy flights through Kayak. I was so bummed when I found out! So I'm like, do I go for the deal and just suffer through regular security? Or do I try to find my own deals and still be able to use TSA pre-check? I'm still bitter that I can't do both 🙁

I've used my KTN when buying flights on Priceline and I had one the other day where I called the airline with my confirmation number and added it right after I bought my flight. You could try calling if they don't give you the chance to enter it?

Ohhh that's a good idea! Definitely worth a shot at this point 🙂

Has anyone received a rejection from Durham VA? It's been almost a week since their notification deadline...wondering if my application got lost. lol

Their brochure says rejections will go out by 12/5. I’m waiting to hear back from them too. If I don’t hear by 12/6, I plan to contact them.

This reminded me of this entire process!

What is the exact cost of graduating with non accredited internship? Will be hard to get licensed or go to post doc?

Can be quite high. Locked out of most, if not all federal jobs. Also, you wouldn't be eligible to be hired in many health systems. For example, mine covers roughly 60% of all healthcare in the state and we will not hire from non-accredited internships. Also, may be a pain in the A to get licensed in many states. It's not a great idea if you have any other options at all. It's just so very limiting, and flexibility is a very good thing to have in this field as we get squeezed by midlevels.

What's worked for me is booking via Kayak or Expedia, and then contacting the specific airline to add your KTN. Hope that works for you, too!

Is anyone else taking advantage of the transportation provided by Mississippi State Hospital? They offered it to and from the hotel, but I still don’t want to be the only one who takes it.

I might take them up on the offer too. I feel odd about it as well. I would be okay with splitting an uber.

I'm trying to decide between flying out in the evening after one of my interviews or the next morning. Do current interns go out for dinner or drinks with prospective interns often? I've heard about this on rare occassions but was wondering how often it really occurs.

I am beginning to freak about about not matching this year. How many interviews are required for one to feel somewhat confident about matching?

I think it depends because there were people I knew last year that matched having only two interviews. I think it’s more about being your best you on those interviews and giving it your best shot. Also if you only have one or two there is like a 56% match rate from the data for 2016.

Has anyone received a rejection from the Nebraska Consortium? Their notification date was 12/1 and I see that some have received interview invites. I really hate to reach out and ask them but have to plan for travel ☹️.

I have not. I applied to Creighton through the Nebraska Consortium but haven't heard anything back from them :/

I was rejected from Westchester County Jewish Community Services this morning! Love these morning rejections!

Yes, from what I remember from looking at last year’s thread, it was both the first Monday and Tuesday of December, with rejections a couple days later.

After yet another rejection (and this one from one of my top sites unfortunately ☹️ but kind of expected since I saw invites go out on here) my brother tried to cheer me up with this! He said he realized it is not completely accurate but thought I would share to hopefully give someone else a laugh!

Rejection from Pennsylvania Hospital 12/3 via email

Has anyone heard from Woodhull Medical Center?

Yup. I have 12 sites left. This is truly the worst.

Yup, I’m waiting on 9 and considering applying to one more still...

There are people leaving this thread forever because they’ve heard from every site they applied to and I’m over here like, “is there anybody out there?”

I know! I got a rejection yesterday and actually just felt relieved that I could finally cross it off the list.

I have felt that way. I’ve had 3 rejections, 1 invite, and waiting on 10! I’m just ready to plan travel and I’m afraid January is going to be CRAZY. Luckily we have a bunch of airline points because my husband travels constantly for work. I’ve been hoarding them for the last year.

You are the real MVP! Thanks str63!

I was wondering if you had any insight on contacting programs to ask which tracks expressed interest. My very top choice requested that we indicate 3 tracks of interest in our cover letters. I'd give my right arm (or any extremity really!) for any of these rotations, but would like to be able to be as prepared as possible for the interviews. At the same time, I'd rather prepare for all 3 tracks than appear annoying or pushy. Is it best to wait it out? Or is it a fair question to ask?

Thanks so much! You're so wonderful!

That's a good question to which I don't have a great response to. My program has multiple tracks and we specify in our offer which track(s) the applicant is being considered for. Some programs will review applications by track and have different committees and others will just invite their top candidates overall. My guess is that they are considering you for all of them if they didn't specify and they may ask you on the day of the interview which tracks you want them to consider you for. I would suggest that you be prepared for them to ask you about your interest in each of the tracks, especially if they're distinct. It can be difficult to make yourself look like a good fit for 3 different tracks and you could potentially wind up looking like you aren't a good fit for any of them (depending on what they are). If you want to PM me with the site and the tracks you applied for, I might be able to give a better answer.

I know at least one person got an invite to the Orlando VA because it's on the master list, but I was wondering if anyone else has heard from them one way or another? It looks like last year they sent out both invites and rejections late (around December 19th) so it's curious that they sent out an invite so early this year, but otherwise have been silent.
