Yay 😀 finally a break from the rejections!

What is the exact cost of graduating with non accredited internship? Will be hard to get licensed or go to post doc?

I'm sure someone else will have a better answer to this, and it depends on what your degree is in (mine is Clinical), but I do know that every single post-doc fellowship in which I am interested requires an APA-accredited internship. It is not an uncommon requirement so doing some research on those might be worthwhile. Regarding licensure, that likely depends on state but I have been told that requirements are becoming more stringent every year. Further, if you're planning to pursue board-certification, that's another thing to keep in mind.

Depends a lot on what sector of psychology you are going into and also the setting in which you would like to work. For many specialty tracks (e.g. neuro, forensic, child/family etc.) many post-docs will have a requirement that their applicants have completed an APA-accredited internship. Also licensing boards in certain states and board certification standards require completion of an APA-accredited internship (or you have to prove that you received the equivalent of that under a qualified supervisor). I think general and school psychology tracks are more lenient when it comes to these requirements. Also, it will be easier to get by without an APA-accredited internship if you are planning on going into private practice versus if you are trying to get a position in the VA, an academic medical center, or top tier hospital etc.

I did a practicum at one of the available sites thru their program and loved it!

It really depends on your area of study, the state you are in/plan to be in, and your career goals.

I only applied to APA sites, but if for some reason I don’t match (in Phase I or II) I will move forward with a non-APA internship rather than staying in school an additional year. That is a very individual decision, and my career goals will not be significantly impacted if I go that route. The pros and cons are going to be very individual.

I forgot that I did apply to one APPIC but not APA site. Someone in the cohort ahead of me raves about how great their experience has been with them. If they offer me an interview I’ll have to weigh the pros and cons of that versus the non-APPIC options I have.

Still waiting to hear from Texas State also, glad to know I'm not alone...

Well, my spidey sense was going off for a reason. I guess I will do my due diligence and actually contribute something to this thread:

Seems like it could be helpful for future applicants to know that McLean ended up doing not even 2, but 3 rounds of invites for the same (Adult) track, spaced out throughout the day!

To add on to this, there is some flexibility if you go to a VA that is currently seeking acreddidation. In that case, then you are eligible for VA postdocs elsewhere (normally they'd require an apa accredited internship).

Is the OHSU interview a half day or full day? Does it have times? I’m trying to figure out when to put a different interview in case I get this one.

Its a full day (8:15a-4:30p).

I totally get that. Scheduling is starting to get tight for me at this point.

Has anyone received a rejection from McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School? Was hoping for an invite today but it's not looking good :bucktooth:

Did they confirm dates for you guys yet?

Not yet. I had to ask for a virtual interview though, because I already have other interviews scheduled on their in-person interviews dates—so it might be a different process than scheduling an in-person interview.

So i'm trying to book one of my flights and the cost is incredibly expensive. I'm talking like...$450-$500 due to the time of year.

I legitimately don't know what to do. I don't have this kind of money...this process is the worst.

Did you apply for extra loans? I know my university has us complete a budget worksheet to prove we need more loans that whatever the refund was for that semester (thus it doesn’t affect anything for that semester or the next). They had me submit a spreadsheet estimating how much it would cost to apply and attend 10 interviews and got a 9k loan from it. Hopefully it’s not too late to look into that!

This really is so freaking expensive. I've been using Priceline to book almost everything and it has really helped. I even did one of their "express deals" for a flight and a hotel and that was super cheap compared to other things I found. I also have been using ebates so I get cash back on all the hotels and flights I book through Priceline or hotwire or sites like that. If you want to PM me I can give you a referral code and then you'll get more money back the first time you use ebates. Good luck!

One of mine was going to be$650, so I guess it’s good they rejected me. How about train or grayhound?

What is the consensus on contacting a site and asking if an interview can be moved? I have one interview in California on Jan 18 and just received another one on Jan 7. I know the Jan 18 site has an interview day on Jan 4....I asked for it originally but I wasn't given it.

Do you think it looks bad to the site to ask? I'm coming from New York so flying to CA twice in a 2 week span is really challenging....

Are you booking a bunch of roundtrip tickets or doing multi-city tickets? Multi-city is probably the cheapest option. So far, I have 4 interviews and I am looking at $650-700 in airfare alone (doing multi-city and clustering interviews) with 11 more sites left to give notifications.

I had to ask two sites to change interview dates and they were both super understanding and kind about it. They know we haven't been making any money in grad school and that this is a very expensive process! And if they don't, they may not be an awesome place to be?

Oooh what does that do?
Kayak is super cheap, and ive heard rumors that each time you look up a flight to somewhere the website can log that to show more expensive flights bc you "really want to go" and so they know youll get more desperate. Could be conspiracy theory, but my flights tend to stay cheap!

I've heard nothing aside from two rejections until this, and it's been torture. Who knew one offer could provide so much relief 🙂

I love a good conspiracy theory, I'm definitely going to try this for my remaining flights!
