Yay! Me too!

It’s not letting me PM you for some reason, but I was wondering if you were able to find a flight out of Kansas and which airport you used? Since the interview ends at 4:30 I’ve been unable to find any flights that leave after 6pm.

Okay so the choices include asking for a different day for the interview, asking for an earlier departure time than 5 so that you can make it to Wichita, asking for a phone/video interview, or deciding if you would rather interview in larned or Jackson. None of them are particularly great choices, but that looks like what the choices are for this location.

They have to be used to this happening at that site and have a contingency plan in place, reach out to the TD and ask what your options are at this point. Fwiw, I went down a huge rabbit hole and mapped out a path from larned to dodge city to Denver and then the only flights from Denver were like 15 hour flights.

Thank you for doing all of that, and I do think I need to ask to leave early at this point or reschedule my other interview as I already booked my arrival flight.

I havent looked for flights yet but dont have anything scheduled for the 9th. I know one of friends is facing same issue and recently scheduled a phone interview with Larned to prevent him from missing 2 other scheduled interviews. Its rough cause it's in such a rural area :/

Idk what to do. I have an interview in Kansas on the 10th and an interview in Mississippi on the 11th. There are no flights anytime after 8pm (the interview ends at 5, there’s a two hour drive to the airport, I’m leaving an hour for security and traffic but still may not be enough). I can’t even find a flight back to the state I live in; there’s 11 and 17 hour flights which I’ve never heard of before but also wouldn’t be back home until the 12th, and I would miss yet another interview... any advice would be great. Ive never had problem booking flights before like this where they had nothing after 6pm. I’ve used several different websites and had others assist me to make sure I wasn’t missing anything.

It's weird that this airport doesn't really have many flights later in the night. When is your Jackson interview? If it can be pushed back to the second half of the day then I think I've found a potentially feasible plan.

It involves flying out of a Kansas City on the morning of the 11th. United has a flight that would get you in at 11:30a. Kansas city is ~4 hours from Larned, so you would need to finish your interview and get to kansas city. Sleep there, then fly the next morning. The time crunch is certainly less than ideal, but could potentially work.

Can you rent a car and drive? Drive to a different airport with more flight options? I think you can get a bus from KC to the STL airport (called MoEx). Sleep on the bus and catch a late flight from STL for more flight options? Are you trying to get to Jackson or Oxford?

Rejections from the Charles George / Asheville VA anyone? It is the last one I have to hear from and then I’m done with this waiting stuff.

That was a good plan, but I just emailed Mississippi and asked them if I could interview on the 14th (the other date that was originally offered). Hopefully this doesn’t affect anything :/

Glad to know I’m not the only one having these difficulties! I would have asked for a phone interview but already got my flight there. So now I’m just staying an extra night and flying home in the morning and unfortunately had to reschedule my interview the next day.

Fwiw I ended up getting two sites scheduled on the same day on accident (face palm). The other dates they had available all conflicted with other interviews. So I went through emails for my other scheduled interviews and asked around if they had any wiggle room. I was able to move one of those others to accommodate one of my double booked interviews. I just kept emphasizing that I was excited to meet everyone and stuff like that. Also, if anything, it shows how awesome you are that so many sites are interested in meeting you!

Invite from Florida State Hospital! Am glad to finish this first hurdle with 14 interviews, although still worried about not matching.

Although I hope you didn’t mean it in this way I think it is a little distasteful to post that when others have been posting about being worried about their one interview. Maybe be grateful for what you have and trust the system which has shown that you will almost without a doubt match.

Anything in Oklahoma or Nebraska? Just trying to think about nearby states

Also, both interviews i went to so far were very understanding of people leaving early to catch a flight - might be worth asking?

Sent from my iPhone using SDN

Yeah I agree! See if you can leave early. If not start prioritizing site visits and do some phone/Skype interviews as an alternative.

Yeah! I tried to avoid applying to any site that wasn’t near a major airport. I think living in such a rural even temporarily would dampen my spirits!

Sounds a little insensitive given that most of us on this forum as struggling to get 2-4 interviews, and you’re all but guaranteed to match.

People can still be worried about uncertainty across the spectrum of this process. Let's not get into the habit of a bad PTSD group in getting into a pissing contest about who has the "real" stressor/trauma. This can be a stressful time for all involved, applicants, their family, TDs, faculty, etc. We don't want to foster an us v them atmosphere as it does no good for anyone involved. Let's keep this a welcoming space for all people, regardless of the numbers of interviews that they got. Everyone deserves their voice here.

Well said. I think this goes to show that this process causes self-doubt, anxiety, and uncertainty for all of us, regardless of whether we got 2 interviews or 20. It doesn't seem like there's a "magic number" of interviews that makes those feelings go away, and we're in the same boat in terms of wondering whether this is all going to work out and if we're going to match in the end.

While I agree with you, I do think the other people have a point as well. This person, who has 14 interviews (which is insanely amazing) is placing a burden for support and reassurance about matching on quite a lot of people who have genuine reasons to be worried about the match. Your point about the “stressful time for all” is true, but that person wasn’t posting about how stressful this time is. They specifically posted about feeling like they won’t match with 14 interviews. That does come across as ignorant and insensitive.

I think you hit the nail on the head. At the same time I think there’s something to be said for having the awareness and sensitivity to not post “I got 14 interviews, I’m scared I won’t match!” on a forum like this. That’s the time maybe to reach out to others in your life for reassurance and support.

I disagree. I think some are ignorant and insensitive in dismissing this person's anxiety about the process. Anxiety does not have to be rational to be real to the person. All of us who treat anxiety know this. We don't need to put this person down. If this distresses someone, they are free to ignore the comment. If this thread still causes you distress, you may want to step away from it for a while and practice some self-care. This thread is for everyone going through the process, not just who is deemed appropriate given some arbitraty number of interviews. Support should be universal here, not conditional.

Again, there’s a big difference between seeking support and insensitively seeking reassurance in the wrong places. Based on that person’s very frequent, reassurance-seeking posts on the 70+ pages of this forum, I think your thoughts are misguided at best. This forum is for information and encouragement. It’s not for 50+ people to act as the therapist for one person who is constantly seeking reassurance without considering sensitivity toward the audience.

Definitely thought about avoiding the rural sites till I reminded myself my hometown is an hour and half from the nearest airport so I'll already be used to it lol. Worth it for good training

I think what is misguided at best is deciding who is worthy to post in this thread. If you don't want to offer the reassurance, that's fine. But, there is no reason to put others down or tell them that they cannot post here.

Anyone still waiting to hear from the St Louis Consortium? I don’t know if I’ve seen any rejections from them.

Sorry but humble-bragging about having 14 interviews does not make this a welcoming space for everyone. It just makes others feel bad.

I’m pretty damn proud of my 4 interviews and I trust in the process- I know I will be where I am meant to be. But hearing someone say “oh I have 14 interviews and I’m still scared of not matching” is such a slap in the face to those of us who do not have the privilege of being in that situation (which is the majority) of people on here. I agree everyone has a right to post here what they want, but sensitivity and empathy for others are two critical traits of a psychologist. We should all remember that when interacting on this forum.

Indeed they are, and perhaps we should practice what we preach instead of engaging in mind reading about the intents of poster's thoughts. The easiest thing to do if you find it insensitive is to ignore it. We are not in the business of telling people whether or not their stress is justified or not.

So if I should ignore it, then I’m essentially being told that my voice and my opinions don’t a place here. It goes both ways!

Your voice and opinions are fine. If you want to put down others, that is not so fine. You can still voice it, but just expect someone to call you out on it. I will always stand up for everyone's right to be in this thread. And, we can accommodate everyone, regardless of some arbitrary number we set for # of interviews. My comment about ignoring general comments was more about self-care than anything. If general comments get someone that charged up, they may want to rethink how much time they are spending here. It's obviously not healthy.

Not putting anyone down, but okay. I am not the only one who feels put down by the OP’s remarks. So what about us? And also, I don’t appreciate the backhanded comments. It’s commendable that you have such a commitment to stand up for people on this post. But also this isn’t the first time I’ve seen you argue with students on this site. Perhaps it’s you who needs to think about how much time you are spending on this site.

Earlier this week my emails went to spam in a TD’s inbox and I ended up having to call them after they sent a follow up email saying they hadn’t heard from me. Last night I received an interview offer and emailed back immediately. I am guessing I should wait until Monday before I think about calling (it being the weekend and all)?

Anyone have any tips for not getting thrown into people’s spam? I had no problems until this week.

I see I popped on here just in time for THIS discussion, which happens every year.

Someone (or a few someones) are either happy and excited about having a lot of interviews or irrationally anxious because they are worried about matching even with a lot of interviews, and other folks often without a lot of interviews or who are empathizing with those who don't have a lot of interviews become angry and upset.

Whichever side of this you are on, you may be feeling some difficult feelings of shame, anxiety, and anger. It's a highly charged and emotional time for sure and I think it's hard for most folks to go through (thanks a lot imposter syndrome!).

I hope, whatever your differences are, that you can find at least a few individuals on here with whom to connect and find the support that you all need. I promise, come what may, you will all get through this and many of you will find (to use a term from last year) your wand site.

Now go kick ass!!! Even if you have but one single interview, you have a chance to match at a great site (that happened to someone in my program two years back and she is now licensed doctor working at that site because she LOVED it)!

The OP made a general statement. Not targeted at anyone in particular. They were then met with quite a bit of individualized vitriol and shaming. That is not ok. Ad hominem attacks are not helpful for anyone in this thread. You can choose to ignore things, offer support where you will, or put others down. It's your choice, but I hope most of us choose the healthier options.

I'm wondering if Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC/WVU SOM) is still continuing to invite and will actually wait until their deadline of 01/03 - they had a later application deadline and have only invited for one of their three stated interview dates (they have a unique process for interview requests). So maybe the interview notifications for 01/11 and 01/18 are still to come?

I got an email for an interview on 1/11 a few days ago.

I'm wondering the same!
Also, their site visit policy is a little confusing. Do they want us to request a visit once the appi was submitted, Or by "completed application" are they referring to applicants who are offered an interview.. thoughts?

After your application is submitted. I requested mine in October and followed up in late November.

Oh my! This place got heated quickly. I wake up to calmly scroll through the peaceful meadow of SDN, only to be met with a scattering of ominous clouds of thought .

Who has two thumbs and is still waiting on two more sites to respond today??

<------ this guy does

Have a great day everyone and may the odds ever be in your favor.

For those sites that have their notification date set for today, is it fair to expect them to still notify today or will the weekend interfere with that? I feel like I should be able to expect them to stick to their set date but I don't know how sites view working through the weekend.

Anyone interviewing at Northeast Florida State Hospital on January 4th or South Florida State Hospital on January 7th? I'll be staying around that way for the weekend and looking to see if anyone else will be around those areas. 🙂

Seeing these posts comparing numbers of interviews and the anxiety people feel about their number, I think it's important to remember that different training programs have very different program climates and expectations of students when it comes to this process.

For example, my training program encourages us to apply to ~10 sites and warns us to expect about a 50% hit rate, so they're happy if we get 5 interviews. My best friend's program, however, encourages applicants to apply to at least 20 sites, and she told me that students in her program often feel like failures if they get less than 10-12 interviews due to the pressure their faculty members put on them.

All of our programs have such different experiences and different norms when it comes to APPIC that can leave students feeling uncertain. This site has been really helpful for me in providing information and support throughout this process that I didn't feel like I got from my training program, and I really appreciate everyone's encouragement on here. I hope that we can continue to be empathetic, even if someone's stress is coming from a different place than our own.

I also think it's important to think about strengths and weaknesses. Someone may have 14 interviews, but know that interviewing is a weakness of theirs (not saying this is the case for anyone who has posted). Just as there have been people that have successfully matched with only one interview, I am sure there are people who have not matched with a large number of interviews. We're all in this (super stressful situation) together!

Although I hope you didn’t mean it in this way I think it is a little distasteful to post that when others have been posting about being worried about their one interview. Maybe be grateful for what you have and trust the system which has shown that you will almost without a doubt match.

Others were posting how many interviews they ended up with and how they felt about it (including ones who had many), thus I didn’t think it would come off that way.

Thank you very much for saying this. I would never try to make anyone feel bad; my first year I had 12 practicum interviews and did not match.
