PhD/PsyD APPIC Internship Interview Invitation Thread (2019)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Haha me too. This forum is great for providing up-to-date information, however, when you see someone post that they got an interview offer from a site you are waiting to hear back from (and haven't heard anything from yet), you can kinda predict your fate 🙁

Exactly. I’m slightly concerned about one site, and tonight is that Dartmouth deadline. I can say with a high degree of certainty, based on circumstance and what has been said in this thread, that I’m not awaiting good news.

Ah well, I can assure you it will happen to all of us multiple times throughout this process. I suppose this is the reason why we are advised to apply to more sites than seem necessary because things can get pretty competitive, especially for neuro (which is what I am going for as well). I didn't apply to Dartmouth, but I saw that Phoenix VA sent out invites for the neuro track and haven't heard a peep. My mantra from November-February: "What's meant to be will be."

I feel the exact same way. It's great for info (especially when interview dates are posted to plan a schedule in case I get an interview ) but it's also discouraging. I'm still on the fence if this is helping my anxiety jitters or not! Haha. Best of luck though! We are all in this together if that's helps! 🙂

Last year I received an email from a training director after 9PM, which was unexpected. I also received one very early on a Saturday morning. Both times kind of caught me off guard 🙂

On behalf of training directors everywhere - we frequently have to weave applications and interview invites into our regular schedule. The result is working on weekends and after hours, which is why you might get emails and notifications at odd times. Not because we’re trying to be cruel, but because we’re doing our best to let you know information ASAP.

Ok this USAJobs app is really confusing. So we just need to upload our APPIC application, a transcript, and enrollment verification? Is everyone filling out the work history of the application completely? And, is anyone submitting an online transcript? It looks like it just needs school name, student name, and degree?
Where did it say we need to upload our APPIC application? I assumed we do not have to fill out the work history if we upload a resume, but I have this same question as well because I'm not sure... I'm not sure about transcript either because they said they don't want an online one but it has to be online if it is uploaded through the USAJobs website... I'm guessing we have to get an electronic copy of our transcript and then upload it? I'm stressed about all of this because they only gave us until the 23rd and campus is closed next week for Thanksgiving, so I have to try to get all this done tomorrow.

Oh I don’t think anyone else had heard from Butner. I assume it was a mass email? Congrats!

I hadn’t seen anyone else post about it either. But also no rejection yet... not sure if I should hold out hope or not

I forgot they had all the different combinations of tracks since I did that one awhile ago. So maybe they’re going out at different rates.

Well, that is an assumed rejection from Dartmouth - it is no longer 11/15 in their time zone and APPIC is pretty clear about those expectations. I would have preferred a legitimate rejection.

Me too I wonder if we’ll ever hear from them.

I got the Dartmouth email as well. I'd guess the late night email is so that they can verify their interviews before officially sending out the rejections. I know waiting isn't fun but I don't assume sites do it maliciously, and given our field and that they've been in our shoes, I actually assume they empathize with us.

So I am filling out the work section and education as if I were applying for a job outside of internship. I also received an invitation to complete the next step from Butner. I assume that if I fill out too much information it won't matter. I'm using my practica sites as the "work experience." I am basing this off of information I received from a psychologist who works at a federal prison, although is not part of any type of internship program. So I'm not sure how accurate it is, but better safe than sorry.

Congratulations! That is so exciting! Were you able to tell from the email whether it went to just the neuro track? Or to all tracks? I had my hopes set in this one!

Thank you! It seems like an excellent site. I am not certain, however, I believe it was a general email to all tracks because they didn't state anything specifically about it being for the neuro track (I just happened to apply for that track so I know that is what it is for). But don't take my word for it because I don't know the specific protocol they are using.

I got an interview at this site as well! My first interview so I feel very excited/relieved 🙂

Hi everyone,

I just found out about something that you should all know. My husband and I are trying to pair match, and he was just told by a site that they didn't receive one of his rec letters. At first, we thought it was a site-specific issue, but he called APPIC to get clarification. They told him there was a system error on 10/15, and apparently sites are not able to view some letters that were uploaded on that day. Even though it looks like the letter was uploaded properly in the APPIC portal, sites can't view it. I'd strongly recommend checking when your letter writers uploaded their recommendation forms. He is in the process of contacting sites to let them know that they'll need to download his application again after the letter writer uploads their form again. I hope this didn't happen to anyone else!

This happened to me as well! Sites were very understanding.

If we haven't heard from a BOP site thus far, we can assume it's a rejection then right? Because the USAJobs app is from the 15th-23rd...

Congrats! I'd imagine that tracks at the VA worked both separately and together to send emails, so I'd say you were invited due to qualifications for neuro - I hope it works out! I only applied to two VA sites for internship, even though I'm currently at one now.

Also, I called the number they gave me for assistance with the application. The person I spoke with said they don't try to weed applicants out and they mainly want our transcript. She said we don't have to fill out the education either if we upload a resume.

This happened to someone in my cohort as well, and they only found out because a site looked at his app early and contacted him to let him know about the error. He then contacted each site he applied to, notifying them of the error. Everything is sorted out now. So! Fear not, it is a known problem and sites will very likely tell you if this has occurred with your application.

Yep, we are in the same boat. Sad day

I just got a joint e-mail to apply to USAJobs, from both FCC Butner and UNC School of Medicine.

Butner has already been posted so:

Official Site Name: UNC School of Medicine
Date Invitation Received: 11/16/2018
Method of Invitation (Phone call, personal/mass email, snapchat): mass email
Specialty Track or Site (e.g., for consortiums): Forensic
Offered Interview Dates: Apply to USAJobs. Interview will be the day after the Butner interview (the day after Jan 7, 8, 16, or 17)
(In honor of last year) If & How you're staying sane: Happy hours.

Is this the same as UNC Chapel Hill site?

Congrats! Did you get a sense whether this email was sent out to all tracks or peds neuro specifically?

Question: What is the typical protocol when a site emails you back to confirm your interview date? Should you respond saying you got it, or leave it be so that the directors don’t get bombarded with these types of emails?
