Congrats! I was/am hoping for the Neuro track at this site.

Has anyone heard from Tampa VA?

Nope, still waiting on this one too. For anyone who applied to the neuro track specifically, I've heard they have many different neuro staff members this year compared to last and therefore aren't necessarily following the same protocol they did previously.

Is anyone else still waiting on Yale, forensic addictions track? I see the substance use track has offered invites, but nothing for forensics.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Now that I’m digesting all my pie I’m thinking about interview items from black Friday sales. I know loafers were covered, but what is the consensus on girls wearing nice oxfords? Or are they too casual? Thanks everyone!

I’m wearing a pair of ballet flats.

BTW- This was in my JUNK email bc it was sent out via mass email and had a doodle poll. Therefore it got registered as junk. Just a note for you guys that it actually can go to the wrong folder.

(In honor of last year) If & How you're staying sane: I downloaded the Gmail app and only have my school email hooked up to it so I get interview-related emails instantly (no refreshing needed). It's been super helpful for curbing my anxiety! Also lots of smush-time with cats and rearranging my furniture.

In confirming an interview date, I accidentally typed out the wrong date (1/18 instead of 1/11). The training director emailed and politely pointed out the error, as they wanted to confirm that I can come in for the interview after all.

How badly does this impact my chances of matching at that site? I feel like I made a huge error and I come across as quite incompetent.

Speaking from no experience, I'm sure this won't reflect poorly on you! Typos happen 🙂

Nah! It was Inadvertent typo. We’re all stressed with the internship process but try not to overanalyze things.

I did the exact same thing! I think it's bound to happen when there is time pressure to respond quickly and get an interview slot that you can attend.

Slightly off topic: My sister recently interviewed for med school at her absolute first choice, and her interviewer said "I'm sure you'll make a great doctor". My entire family has been analyzing and re-analyzing that comment for weeks now! It probably means nothing at all! It's so tough not to read into the smallest indicators...and the same thing is very true for our process.

Dumb question - when everyone says suit, are they referring to dress pants and a blazer, or do we have to get an official suit set? I’ve always just work black dress pants and a separate black blazer for grad school/prac interviews.

Dress pants and a blazer. Preferably matching, or at least not horribly un-matching. For ladies, JCPenny is honestly a great choice, their worthington brand is super cheap and comes in all kinds of sizes. I got black trouser pants and a black blazer for $50 total. Not bad at all. I’ll just swap my blouses out for each interview.

As a male, I would love to wear slacks and a blazer - I am most comfortable when dressed this way. However, I plan on wearing a traditional navy suit to interviews. I feel like this is highly dependent on setting as well.

I think you can do either as long as they match. Buying pants + a blazer separately is also super helpful for people who need different sizes on the top vs. bottom. I bought black dress pants at one store and a black blazer from another store, but the materials match so it just looks like a suit that came all together anyway.

I got this one as well!

Okay, now I'm panicking. 2 rejections, 1 acceptance. What if I only get the one?
I think I went into this overly confident. This sucks.
1) It;s still early! 2) There's always phase 2, which really isn't the most awful thing in the world and 3) it's going to be ok! We can get through this!

All of my fellow externs keep telling me that I shouldn't be subscribed to any internship-related forum because it will just make me even more anxious. Honestly, it's having the opposite effect. I really like knowing what the deal is. Anyone else?

I find it to be super helpful and normalizing. My family and friends really don’t understand the process and everyone in our program doesn’t want to talk about it so I began to feel a bit isolated. Knowing other people have the same thoughts going through their heads, how supportive everyone is, and the tips from past interns or trainers are quite helpful.

It's super helpful to me. There's only 4 people from my program going through the match and I'm not really close to any of them (they're all fifth years, I'm a fourth year). I don't view y'all as my competition at all. We are all awesome awesome people who are going to be great psychologists and I truly hope everyone gets a great site.

Tbh I have a bit of a love/hate relationship going with this forum haha. It's really nice to have real-time information about things and communicate with fellow students who are going through the same process, but there have been a few times when I've seen people post invites to sites that I got rejected from and the urge to make comparisons (and deal with the subsequent self-criticism that comes with that) is hard to overcome. I also think my anxiety would be lower if I didn't have the knowledge that some sites I applied to have already sent out some invites to other people, but I have heard nothing from them at this point. It just makes the sense of waiting more excruciating than it already is in general. So I can see merit in both perspectives on the utility of forums like this.

Ditto to the above post. I think my stress level is definitely higher and there is little to gain from seeing invites coming from sites to which I did not apply. It's worse to see waves come from sites to which I did apply, with no rejection from them to-date. This results in more contemplation and analysis than should ever be considered healthy. However, I do appreciate the sense of community during a major period of time toward which we have all been working, seemingly endlessly.

It is also somewhat helpful to view last year's thread, which I believe will make this thread worthwhile to those applying next year. For example, the Saturday after Thanksgiving was fairly popular for notifications last year (if I recall correctly). My plan is to sleep in as late as my body will allow and wake up to an inbox with some relevant information. The dates haven't lined up perfectly, as expected, but I am hoping that no one will have to wait until mid-December to hear back from their sites - ESPECIALLY from sites that have already sent a wave/waves of invites.

Thanks, very helpful. Now, are blouses okay? Or button up? If blouses, does the color matter? I have some bright blue and hot pink ones.

I was gonna say the thread has helped reduce anxiety, but being that I am now on an airplane on a day that is popular is freaking me out. Time to buy inflight WiFi I guess

I am planning to try to err on the side of neutral and conservative. Also, the best style of top may depend on your interview setting and body type. For example, I’m interviewing at prisons and know a button up - no matter how well-fitting - is a bit too much of a gamble for me. I would rather be safe than sorry.

What’s the protocol on luggage? Will sites be annoyed if I ask to put my luggage somewhere? It seems useless to pay for an extra day at a hotel but also don’t want to hurt my chances with such a trivial matter. Also, if they do allow this, should we email them and ask in advanced or ask on the day of?

Also if you are really concerned you can always leave your luggage with the concierge at your hotel and come back for it. There were people that I know if that did that as well.

Someone asked this question about luggage earlier in the thread. I’d say email the site to see if it’s OK but I do believe since many people will be traveling to and from sites immediately after interviews, I don’t think it’d be frowned upon. Yet, for prison sites it might be an issue due to security protocols.

Sorry some of these repeat. These are all the notifications/invitations I have gotten so far. Just wanted to be helpful and share in case others were waiting to hear from the above sites.

Congrats! I applied there as well, the underserved population track. I submitted my application yesterday morning and I was surprised to see they have already sent out invites. Considering their deadline is tonight's midnight, I guess they must have a rolling review process...
I am confused about this as well. Deadline was midnight 11/15, but invites were sent prior to that? I did not think this was supposed to be a "rolling" process?

I have noticed that some sites seem to be offering invitations on a rolling basis prior to the application deadline. I am assuming and hoping that they still provide equal opportunity to all applicants who send in their applications by the deadline. It seems to me that this rolling process would diminish interview slots, thereby reducing opportunity for others. But who knows - it's a mystery.

Fabulous news! Wondering if anyone has heard a peep from the Behavioral Medicine Service housed within Yale-New Haven Hospital (YNHH)?
