APPIC Interview Invitation Thread (2021)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This isn't true on average. So far, when the stats are released, PhD students have more clinical hours, on average, than PsyD students.
To add to this, when I was applying two years ago, I saw exactly one site that said they did not want applicants from clinical science programs (and it wasn't a great site in general) and one that stated that PsyDs were "preferred" over "acceptable" PhDs (this was before they changed the descriptions on the APPIC program).

I'd like to chime in about this situation (not having a lot of options to get experience in a given setting). As a TD I understand that there may be limited options for trainees to get the experiences they want. What makes a difference for me when I review an application is how the person communicates their interest in and passion for working with the population at our site. If a letter just says, "I think I would be a great asset to your program because I am excellent at all these skills," that does nothing to convey genuine interest in our site and the people we serve. What I appreciate seeing is "I haven't been able to do X, though it is my long-term career goal. These are the A, B and C ways in which I have prepared myself for work at your site/with the people you serve, and these 1, 2, 3 reasons are why I will do well there." Or something to that effect. Don't count yourself out. But do convey your interest and passion.

Good luck! I know this is hard.
I greatly appreciate this insight! That's similar to the approach I took so it gives me some hope I could land at a hospital!

Something I've been reflecting on over the weekend is how challenging this year has been for so many of us. With practicum closures, family and friends getting sick, and most of the country being shut down for periods of time, the fact that we are here and applying to internship is AMAZING. We should have compassion for our colleagues, training sites, and most importantly, ourselves. We've made it this far during a global pandemic! We will also make it to the end. 💜 😎

Has anyone gotten rejection emails from Wisconsin SOM, Duke, or UIC?

Also has anyone not in the forensic track heard from UNC?

Got an email from medical college of Wisconsin that said they were not able to offer me an interview but should an interview spot open up, they would still consider offering me an interview. Has anyone else gotten an email like this or heard of this before?

It means you are likely in their 2nd tier. 1st tier = automatic interview, 2nd tier, just missed the cut, 3rd tier = will not be ranked.

Do many sites follow this protocol?

None of my sites when I was a faculty member did, but we also interviewed quite a few people, so even if some dropped out or did not accept an interview, we had more than enough to match.

Nope! Seems like a good sign for you!! I just got a rejection from them.

I am waiting on a rejection from UIC since it looks like they let people who got interviews know already, but haven't heard anything. Really hoping that I'll still get an invite but I know that the odds are low. I also haven't heard from UNC yet.

I haven't yet, wondering the same thing! The site to which I applied said they would be in touch again sometime in December, so probably not unusual that we haven't heard yet (I hope)!
ahh okay. I was invited to move forward with the usajobs app by FCC Allenwood and their brochure also said early December, so I figured I was probably just being impatient, but thought I'd ask anyways. Fingers crossed that FBOP interview invites start rolling in for us! good luck!

Is it normal at this that I still haven’t heard from any site? No rejection and no interviews yet.
