Applicants to Canadian Programs - 2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was going to ask the same thing. Has anyone heard from UBC, U Vic, or Windsor?

Still waiting on UBC and UVic. I see on UVic MyStatus I've progressed to "interim review," whatever that means. Probably nothing significant. My friend's documents haven't even been processed for UVic yet, so I'm sure we have a ways to go.

I agree this waiting process is brutal.

Just got an email today from Ryerson for an Interview.
(was originally sent Jan 31, but typo'd my email and just realized today).

Hope that gives some hope that good things could and are still coming!

I just saw on gradcafe that Windsor is up.
It sucks I didn't hear anything from them, but I suppose it is ok because I don't know if I really even want to go there.

I talked to UVic last week, and apparently as of last week they were only at processing apps from Dec 26. I don't know if that means just entering the data into the computer and the actual applications have moved on to the departments or if the depts won't get to see the files until the grad office has dealt with them.

Last year I had an interview from Windsor in the first week of March, this is a bit earlier? Also, on gradcafe it says PhD, and so maybe they do the PhD applications first and then the masters.
.... then maybe we just didnt get invitations. But if I had one last year, and this year I'm more qualified, it seems kind of backwards.

Ahhh these websites are heartbreakers.

I've been a long time lurker in this website, i decided to register today.

Right now i'm entering Psych at the undergraduate level and i'll see where it brings me, my first intention is to get accepted to McGill Law or UofT Law School.

If i still get rejected i might consider applying to Psy.D./Ph.D. programs since i love both fields.

Choices for Psychology Doc programs go as follow for me:
1:University of Montreal's Ph.D. in Neuropsychology(Research/Intervention).
2:University of Montreal's Ph.D. in I/O Psychology.
3:Laval University
4:McGill
5:UofT
6:Western
7:Queen's.

UVIC always takes forever for both interviews and sending out rejections.

My POI at UVic was very nice and explained the full process to me. FGSR gets the applications and takes about a hundred years to scan in each application individually. The scanned apps are visible by profs but nothing really can be done until the very last app is scanned, which should be in about a week or so at the rate they're going now. Then, they'll take another hundred years to do the psych department stuff. So... very painful for those of us who are getting rejections from other universities already... 🙂

According to my sources, UVic will begin sending interview invites from POIs this week, when seems up to the indiv profs. Could be sooner or later.

Guelph makes final decision this week.

Interview from Windsor.

Still hoping for something from Uvic or UBC. I was reading UBC's website again, and they said they would make early decisions in mid January, but I haven't heard anyone say anything about hearing from them yet.

Congrats on Windsor! I am still waiting on UBC as well. It's the only school I haven't heard from yet.

Has anyone had any experiences with inteviewing at Waterloo? I have a full-day of interviews with the faculty and meeting with students coming up in the next week. Any advice on what to expect?

Hey All,

I am new to this site and just reading over things, and yes ...freaking myself out. I have applied to Ryerson, Waterloo, Guelph, Concordia and York. I have interiewed at Ryerson but have not heard anything back. I am going a little crazy, and losing hope. I was wondering if there is anyone who has heard anything from Concordia or York (adult program)? Also, those interviewing at Waterloo, when did you find out?

Thanks Everyone and good luck!

I got a rejection email today from Queens. My first official one.
It was a mass email, but not painfully impersonal.

I've been stalking this forum for a while but I've finally decided to get an account. I've applied to UVic, UWindsor, and Ottawa. Haven't hear back from anywhere yet, and UVic gave me some trouble with losing some of my documents and generally being very slow (although the admin staff are very nice!).

Bsc...which stream did you apply to (e.g. child, neuropsych)? I'm just hoping that they only sent out invites to only the child or adult stream and not the neuropsych one yet and that's why I haven't heard from them 🙁.

Anyone else apply to Dalhousie..heard anything..know anything?

Online mine says decision made..not sure if I can assume that to be a rejection and just have to wait for the letter in the mail - or does anyone know if this still could be good news?

Online mine still says, "Decision: written notification to follow."

Have you heard from Dal by post yet SCCP?

Has anyone heard from U of T? I heard that last year they sent out invites for their open house on the 18th of February. I'm getting so nervous about all of this. Really glad I applied to back-up MAs not in clinical this year.

I applied to Dalhousie, and U of T for clinical (in Canada) and to Carleton for MA and Laurier for MSc in Neuroscience.

This process is so nerve wracking. I'm not even sure what it takes to get in to these graduate programs.

That is exactly what mine says also...
Wonder when we will get this written notification..?

Oh. I don't think that means a decision has been made. I believe my application has said, "written notification to follow" since I first submitted. I think that is their way of indicating that a decision will be mailed to you rather than posted online.

Has anyone heard from any of the experimental programs? Are they interviewing (ryerson, york, mcmaster?).

I was also curious about the sccp program and if there has been any invites or acceptances to this program!

Thanks 🙂

Accepted at Guelph today! Decision made 🙂

Hope more good news is coming everyones way soon!

First rejection email today, from Queen's... hurts because it was one of my top choices. 🙁

Congrats on your acceptance! Do you have any idea when we can expect to hear from SCCP at OISE?

Hey! I just joined this forum but have been following it for a while. I am applying to PhD programs in Clinical Psych and just thought I would let you know that I got a call yesterday from my POI at OISE-SCCP. She said that they have to have their decisions into the admissions committee by Feb. 19th and then we should hear the results shortly after that. This was for the MA program though because they have no openings for the PhD program.

I was accepted to U of Guelph yesterday too! and U of Windsor as well 🙂 for my PhD.

Rejections so far are Queens and Western.

Has anyone heard back from U of T?

I applied to the MA/PhD with COPAS extension. I heard last year they gave out open house invites around this time.

I'm going to be so lost if I don't get in anywhere. 2011PhDApplicant congrats on your acceptances. If you don't mind sharing, what are your stats? I'm asking because if I don't get in anywhere I want to figure out how to boost my application for next year.

Right now I have 3.8/4 pGPA, 3.8/4 GPA for the last 2 years from top research university, BA w. Honours. 1390 on GRE, 97th percentile subject GRE, 2 independent research projects, 1 conference presentation, good reference letters all from tenured profs. I didn't get any interviews last year and I'm not really sure what else I can do. I'm currently volunteering in two clinical psych labs, one in a university, and one in a hospital. Blehhhh. I'm losing my mind.

Still haven't heard from Concordia, Ryerson, Waterloo, York (minus the fact that they needed me to resend GRE scores). .... LAMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, such good matches to the first 3.

Open house for UofT is march 4th (exp. MA+PHD).
I'll probably end up here.

I am disappointed too! 🙁 did you receive an invite to the u of t open house? Do you know if other experimental programs have interviewed yet. I heard its later then the clinical but who knows..

Thanks

I've been accepted into Windsor.

I know of two people who have interviews with UVic..... still haven't heard anything about UBC. I'm still hoping though!

Wow, your application seems pretty solid. It's very similar to mine, if not better - I had really low GRE scores. It's probably not what you wanted to hear so I'm sorry! Maybe it's your statement? or your letters really aren't that good?

Congrats on being accepted to Windsor! UVic is sending out interviews already? My status still says "file forwarded"...

I don't know what it is. I've seen two of my letters and they were really good. Maybe it's the third one or maybe I didn't make enough prof contact? Oh well. Maybe I should just go to law school.

Congratulations to everyone hearing good news. You've got lots to be proud of.

I'm into Windsor and have an in-person interview at UBC on the 25th. I'm
American, so I'm trying to figure out how internships and licensure would work since I plan on coming back to the US after grad school. Do any of y'all know how this works?

Looks like UBC is also done with sending invites?😱
no surprise actually.

Another thing I thought of is maybe you need some clinical volunteer/work experiences. I don't think it counts for much, but it might make a difference.

That sucks UBC has sent out invites! I wish I would get rejections so I knew for sure about what my status was.

I just called the psychology admin at Windsor and they kindly told me that all decisions have been made and that I did not make it. She said that there was no waitlist this year either 🙁. I guess I will get my rejection email soon.

was that for all three clinical programs? the only news I had heard was about child psych.

That's strange. I've been accepted but during my interview I was told by the DTC that there for sure would be a wait list. So maybe the admin didn't know what they were talking about! Also acceptances are still unofficial, so it's sort of strange they would make such bold statements.

Mmmm...well that's what the lady on the other end told me. I called the psychology graduate secretary line so I would assume she knows what she was talking about?

Bokuwakuma - I told her that I was applying for the neuropsych track and she told me all the decisions were made, and even checked my file for me to let me know that I didn't make the cut. I'm not sure if it's for all 3 tracks but I assumed that's what she meant. She said that the notifications were coming soon.

Guess I will have to wait for UVic and Ottawa now!

Rejected from Western via e-mail.

First official rejection and I'm kind of happy. I'm tired of friends telling me there is still hope when I know it's only a matter of time for official rejections!

Accepted into the University of Regina!!! I'm so excited, it was beginning to look like I'd have to put psychology on the back shelf for a while. Still waiting on UVic but I'm very happy with my Regina offer and I'd be working with my top choice professor. 🙂

Thanks

yes, invited to open house.

I also put an option for experimental programs on my applications for Ryerson and Waterloo, that's why I'm surprised I didn't even get a response yet for the exp. programs.

Totally been there. It's definitely depressing, but don't get too down on yourself. If nothing pans out, come up with a plan for next year and start working now, if you choose to continue down this path.

Is there still hope at this point in time? I've had an interview with POI at McGill (said she would be interviewing 2 other ppl and would let me know in a month... which is in another week) and was rejected by Queens. Haven't heard anything from anywhere else... (Concordia, U of T, U of Ottawa, U of Montreal)

What do you guys think, still time to hear back or time to figure out a plan B for next year?

I just got an email of acceptance from U of Ottawa for the clinical program. I think it was a generic email that was sent to all successful applicants. I am not sure about the other schools you are still waiting on though.

UVic will be done interviews shortly... Ottawa is finished acceptances, so is Manitoba... Not sure what is left, Saskatchewan ? Lakehead? Calgary?
Has Waterloo and York sent out acceptance letters yet?

Oh goodness,
Is anyone applying to Memorial?
Anyone heard from Concordia and Dalhousie? I feel like these are implied rejections.

Got rejected today from Waterloo, but I don't know what that means about acceptances.

Still waiting on Saskatchewan, I may call next week if I don't hear anything.

Calgary... hmm I know nothing official, but I would say if you haven't heard anything by this week it probably doesn't look too good. But again that is not official.

Bokuwakuma, how do you know Ottawa is done acceptances? Heard it from POI?

I'd also like to know as well. Also is it confirmed that UVic is done with their decisions?

Is there any hope left for admission? I wish they would at least send a word to let me know about rejection/waitlist so I don't have to keep anxiously waiting. Should I be moving on to plan B now?

POI at Ottawa told me selections all were made. I assume they have been notified...

UVic individual POIs did telephone interviews of a handful to determine who would be invited to interview day. This was 2 and a half weeks ago... I assume interviews will be happening soon or have happened...

Hey, congrats to all those who have been accepted! Has anyone heard back from ryerson yet??
