Applying to both MD and SMP at the same school.

Hello all. I need some advice to help me with my gameplan.
Due to feeling shaky about my acceptance chances when I apply this summer, I will also be applying to SMPs. That said, how would it be viewed by a med school’s adcoms if I applied to both their MD program and their SMP at the same time?
For me, the SMP would function as a safety net. If I don’t get accepted anywhere then I’ll remain in the SMP. If I do get accepted however, I’m dropping it immediately. I’ve heard that dropping an SMP after getting an MD acceptance isn’t bad but any insight on that too would be gladly appreciated!

Totally fine. Two different applications often with 2 different review processes. We've definitely had students drop up to the start of the program because they got into a med program.

We have applicants each year who apply to ur program and our MD program at the same time. Totally separate applications.
