Hi all --

My question is -- with 1/2 prereqs missing, will this hurt my chances?

I'm 29, URM, 3.6 cGPA, 3.9 sGPA, 504 MCAT.

Some good volunteer hours showing commitment to service, etc.

Plan on targeting MD schools and many DO schools.

Thanks!!!

504 is ok its equivalent to a 28 on the old the Ideal score is a 30 or 507 on the new test. New MCAT Score Vs Old MCAT Score

What is your plan for finishing up pre-reqs before matriculation? If you do apply I would say make it very clear of the future courses your are going to take. Do you have other upper level science work?

I would not say that this would necessarily hurt you but I definitely am sure it would raise questions. Such as how will you do in the rest of the pre-req courses? Will you excel in them?

Best,
Cristina

Does your community have mission based schools (African American, Puerto Rican)?
Is that your only MCAT?
What will your Sgpa be on the primary application?

I am hispanic -- mexican.
That is my only MCAT, yes.
My sGPA will be 3.9 on primary -- I've been really consistent grade wise on my science prereqs so far and will do whatever it takes to continue this tread for the other half of them.

Really hoping this won't hurt my chances!! I do see how I may be more of a 'risk' to adcoms.

I have a very clear plan as far as when / where / which courses I will take and am able to show that to adcoms. I have a lot of upper level coursework in neuroscience but nothing in bio / chem / physics, etc.

I definitely think I could have done better on the MCAT having taken all prereqs, however time is not on my side and I'm looking to start school as soon as possible!!

Are you from the IE or Central Valley?

504 is the 64th percentile. That has become a 27 and a half.
507 turned out to be the 74th percentile in the AAMC update. That's a lot closer to a 29, sadly.

I would say it is a gamble your taking but I commend you on doing well on the MCAT, not having took any Bio, Chem, or Physics. I personally would not take this gamble but I am not much of a risk taker. Your GPA looks pretty good though so you have a chance.

Thank you! And I meant that I do not have any upper level course work specifically in bio / chem / physics; however I have 2 years of lower level bio (including a full year of A&P), 1 year of chem and 1 semester of physics -- self studied like crazy for the remainder that I was missing. Definitely rolling the dice!! But I figure it's worth a shot!
