I have be looking through threads from previous years hoping to find some stats from some accepted students of this program but have yet to find any. I know I meet all the the minimums but I would like to just get a better idea of what an actual student would look like. Also if anyone else is applying this cycle and wants to communicate through the process I thought we could use this to talk and support one another.

I'm applying this cycle too and really appreciate you starting this thread. Hopefully some other people chime in! I'd love to hear stats from recently accepted students as well; I feel like all I see on these threads are the conversations about how difficult it is to get in and how most people reapply 2 or 3+ times.

Were you able to go on the campus tour or get any military observation hours? Feel free to PM me if you wanna talk.

I will have some VA hours but not very many. I am going to try to do the last tour date this year. I know it is kinda late but it is the only one I could go to.

One area I suggest applicants begin getting more observation/volunteer hours is in acute care. Learning the inpatient environment is helpful in preparation for an acute care rotation. Good luck to all applicants this year, the admissions committee is looking forward to receiving your applications. Apply now and don't wait until September.

I have a question about LOR. I am applying for other schools and PTCAS only allows for 4 uploaded LOR. Is there any way I can send program specific LOR to a program like the Army-Baylor program?

Anyone have any insights on what Army-Baylor admissions are looking for in the essay questions?

I think you just attach it to PTCAS.... ?

I don't have any specific insights atm, but curious- for the "brief autobiographical sketch", stylistically are most of you leaning more towards being concise and to the point or is anyone trying to inject a little more personal tone and detail into it? I'm wondering what the committee would prefer.

Thanks for that guidance, tcpt! I have some inpatient orthopedic experience with a hospital- mostly total knees and hips and such. Does the committee consider that "acute care" or are they looking more for ICU or med-surg type experiences?

I am assuming that this will be similar to an autobiography sketch when applying to be a commissioned officer...

Yes. That is great experience and a great opportunity to learn inpatient PT skills and exposure to the care environment.

What's up current applicants! I applied & got accepted last cycle. The averages for Army Baylor tend to be around a 3.85 pre-req & cumulative GPA and a 157-159 on both the verbal & quant section of the GRE. I recommend using that as your frame of reference rather than past individual applicant stats - there's simply too many variables with personal situations to accurately compare yourself to them.

When it comes to experiences, think about what skills a military officer AND a physical therapist would need to succeed at their job. Then, ask yourself how you can practice those skills as a Pre-PT.

If y'all have any specific questions, feel free to shoot me a DM!

I submitted my application a week ago, though two of my references are dawdling. It’s nerve racking; I’m not sure how I’m going to make it all the way to February/March when we find out. I looked at last year’s forum thread, and everyone there seems so amazing. Good luck on this cycle, everyone!

Hello, I hope everyone is excited. I see many of you are interested in everyone's stats, I am a second year applicant and applied a couple of weeks ago, just waiting on LORS. I have worked extremely hard to get into this program as I am sure most of you have. Good luck to everyone, here are my stats!!

Pre-req GPA 3.6-3.7
GRE- Around the minimum, I am taking a class to get that up before this cycle ends.
Observation hours
1. 400 outpatient hours working as a PT aide
2. 40 observation hours at Fort Drum working with graduates of the DPT program at the Connor Troop Medical Clinic (Physical Therapy)
3. 5 acute care observation hours at a local hospital (Physical Therapy)
4. 2000 hours working as a full-time Unit Clerk in the ICU and observing how doctors, nurses, PTs, OTs and countless other medical professionals work together to care for patients in a inpatient setting.

LOR:
1. Professor
2. Graduate of Army-Baylor DPT Program
3. LT. Colonel
4. U.S. Congressman

All the rest is essays, volunteer hours, and experiences. Thank you all, I hope to be accepted and see you in the classroom, looking forward to everyone's stats.

Thanks,

P.S- I have conducted in-depth research on this program and on PTCAS. If any of you have any questions I am sure I have already asked and got a answer, feel free to email me at [email protected].

Cool! Your LOR look quite impressive; I'm jealous! Good luck, man, I hope you can get in this year!

Great to see you got an interview!! Let us know how it goes, best of luck!
It's actually already done haha. I'm a pretty hard self-critic, so I wouldn't say I think I knocked it out of the park or anything, but nothing went terribly wrong either. It's pretty nerve racking being interviewed by someone who is at the point in their career that you want to be in 20 years! I'll probably never know, so it's best to try not to worry, especially since I might be waiting for a good while to hear anything more.

Has there been anyone else who has heard back from the Army-Baylor program? The deadline was this week and their websites says they conduct interviews 15 OCT - 15 NOV, however I just saw that @TheDevLee had an interview last month.

I think they started earlier than their exact date listed. If you haven't heard back yet, I'd hang tight. Since the deadline was two days ago, I would bet that they're going to be doing the majority of the interviews here in the next 2-4 weeks, but I'm just speculating.

We started interviews earlier than planned and will continue until complete. Good luck.

Hello all,

After many years of trying to maneuver this DPT application around active duty life, I finally got to apply to the program this cycle.

A little about myself. I am an active duty SSG in the Army. I am former combat medic but currently working as a PT Tech (68F). I am the NCOIC of the musculoskeletal department at Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center on Fort Meade. I have been a PT Tech since 2012 and have worked in pretty much every setting there is.

I am thankful for whoever kicked off this forum and I look forward to hearing how this goes for everyone!

Your military experience both clinical and non-clinical looks great.

I interviewed over the phone on Sep. 9th. I was told I would hear from them this month about further processing but haven't heard anything yet. I was also told I would be contacted by an Army recruiter but haven't been contacted yet. Has anyone else heard anything beyond the interview or been contacted by a recruiter?

I interviewed at about the same time and was told about the same thing, and no, I haven't heard anything from anyone yet. I was also told not to worry if I don't hear back until mid-November like it says on the timeline, so I wouldn't worry. Certainly they'll get back to us; it's just a matter of time.

Hey all,

I applied last year and am reapplying this year. To ease everyone's fears a bit, I received my email to confirm an interview last year on Oct 25th, had the interview in the following week, and got my email about not being accepted on 11/15 of last year. I applied in mid September last year. I haven't been contacted about an interview to this point but also finished my application in mid September again so I'm assuming the same time frame will apply this year. Good luck to everyone!

Interesting! I had read from a previous thread that something like 60 people were put on an OML that year (I think it was 3-4 years ago), so I figured that nearly everyone who was interviewed was put through medical screening and would submit a packet for the boards. I wonder if maybe this has changed and now the major filtering event is right after the interview, before medical screening.

Hello, all!
I'm a current athletic training student, applying for Army-Baylor DPT for the 2019-2020 wave. I'm in a bit of a pickle and hoping someone here can offer some advice, comfort, or condolences, as appropriate.

I submitted my application back in September, but got an email on Monday (the 21st) saying that my official GRE scores weren't showing up on my application and I have until the 27th to resolve the issue or my application will be considered incomplete. I discovered that the reason was that I had accidentally sent them to the Baylor DPT program through PTCAS (an honest, but bonehead mistake) so Army-Baylor didn't get them. Long story short, I have new scores on the way from ETS and PTCAS estimates they should be posted by the 28th. Sounds great, but a day late.

I'm hoping the selection officials will still consider my application, but I haven't heard anything back from Army-Baylor. Missing out on this application cycle for such a simple and silly mistake would be a bit frustrating, to put it lightly. Any advice?

Thanks in advance, and congrats to all who have moved on to Phase II!

I also got the email last week that I will be moving on to Phase II! Anybody heard anything beyond the congratulations email?

Since it’s been almost a week since the initial email without further guidance, I wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything on my end!

I also heard about a week ago and haven't heard anything since so I think you're good!

Way to go! I have been contacted by a recruiter, so yours will probably contact you soon. Just be on the lookout for mysterious calls by unknown numbers in the next few weeks.

All these phase 2 notifications are making me nervous! I don't even know if I'm getting an interview yet. Congrats to all those who have made the cut so far!

Good day everyone! SSG C's post mirrors my own thoughts and feelings. I submitted my application in July, receiving the confirmation email that my PTCAS application was received on July 30th. Since then I haven't heard anything.

I'm positive that my application is quite strong, having worked with several Army Baylor graduates, training many physical therapists in my unique position in the Army, and after attending the tour last summer. Conversations I've had with the aforementioned populations initially instilled me with a significant amount of confidence. However, after reading through this thread, each passing day has been slightly compounding a bit of anxiety around the affair.

I have a question for the group. Those who have already underwent interviews and have received notifications towards their phase 2 advancement, is this your first year applying? I assumed that the order of merit would involve prior applicants that reapplied but perhaps didn't make the cut due to the limited number of positions available, early applicants, those whose testing scores vastly exceeded that of other applicants, then everyone else. Secondly, how many of you that have received interviews are currently in the military or were prior service? I'm curious whether they are separating those pools.
