On the arvo site notification deadline is listed as tomorrow. I still have not heard anything from them on two different submissions...just curious if anybody else had or if they notify everybody at the same time after tomorrow.

I heard this morning (Friday).

When they e-mail you, they only give a link. They don't say if the submission has been accepted.

just heard today as well...=]

is it "worth it" for me to go? i'm listed as a second author on this project, and it is clear on the other side of the united states...what do you think?

is it a good place to get my face out there? or is it just for experience? etc etc

I've been to ARVO once and thought it was an incredible experience. If you truly enjoy vision research, it is like being a kid in a candy store. The opportunity to discuss your work face-to-face and casually with leading experts in your specific area is really cool. Its also a good place to make contacts with folks outside of your geographic area or internationally if that interests you. If however you are really not that into research and are going just to "get your face out there", it will probably be a pretty low-yield experience. Of course, if you are going all expenses paid, you may as well go regardless. It is a nice area with good food, warm beaches, etc...

I finally heard...was just getting worried since it was taking so long....I have a similar question....Is it worth it to be there the entire time, for a resident? My "required" time isn't until may 3, but most of the social events, lectures, symposia, etc are near the beginning.. Any residents going or folks who went as a resident, would sure appreciate your input as to what your experience was like.

The Academy (AAO) meeting seems much more educational to me. If you want to meet some Ph.D.'s and talk to them about their research, this is the meeting to attend.

The strange part of the meeting is that everyone dresses casually. Some even wear sandals to the meeting. Wear a tie and you'll either be mistaken for a penguin or FBI.

Bascom Palmer residents tend to not submit stuff (or is this just a misperception?) because there's less fun attending a meeting in the same city and having to go the work half of the day that one is presenting.
