I already have 2 science profs and a dentist write LOR's, but I know some schools want some sort of volunteer supervisor or someone who can attest to my character. I volunteer at a dental office and figured the dentist can fulfill this last LOR requirement?
If a school wants a volunteer coordinator letter, they want it from the volunteer coordinator most likely. Call them and ask.

I've been reading through glimmer's guide, but I can't seem to find an answer to this question.

When the application comes out, should we e-submit as soon as we've finished filling everything out (like day of)? Or should we wait to e-submit until our transcripts and LOR are verified?

Thanks

You submit ASAP. That is make sure you read everything carefully and don't make any errors.

So if my LoR (committee letter) is pending after I e-submit, can I still complete secondary applications? My university will only start releasing committee letters in late June. Still hazy on secondary app. details. Do you get emails from every school the moment you hit the e-submit button or only till your application is verified/processed. Also, how complex and long do the secondary applications take?

Every school has its own timeframe for supplementals. Check out this for more info:

A lot of schools will contact you if they want you to fill out a supplemental, but there are a few that have different guidelines.

Most schools want everyone to do the supplemental. It can be as little as filling out your basic info and mailing a check to writing 2 long essays about diversity (s/o Minnesota). Some will email you after they get your verified application to remind you (BU) and some might not. Just google around about it or look at old threads. Some schools, like Maryland, only ask certain people to fill out the supplemental.

So I would make sure to get started on the supplementals right after e-submitting even though the main application has to still receive my committee letter, receive transcripts, and verify GPA?

You can go enjoy the nice weather for a few days, it won't kill you 🙂

I plan on retaking DAT at end of June, my scores werent terrible before, if i mark that i am retaking the DAT on the application will schools go through my application or will they wait until my retake is sent in?

I'm not sure but I think they go off of your current DAT and then set you aside until your new scores are up?

They'd likely wait.

1-I heard there is an option where you could pay to have your grades entered into the application. will the grades be verified faster if I go with this option compared to entering them manually?
2- one of my recommendation writers will not be able to post my recommendation until late July early August. will my application be considered incomplete if it is missing a recommendation letter ?
Don't pay for it. I know someone who did and he ended up getting stuck waiting for his grades to be entered. Plus it's really easy anyway why waste the money when the cycle itself is expensive enough as it is.

Does building computers count as finger dexterity? how many examples are we supposed to put down?

I honestly can't think of any examples except that or maybe playing video games since i won a few tournaments put i don't think i should put that.

I'd put it (not the video games part but the building computers part)! I literally had nothing other than crafting and a calligraphy course I took in China.

I took a Japanese class and we also did a little bit of calligraphy, think I can put that?
It wasn't the main focus of the class though.

So as soon as the app open, I can print out the transcript matching form and give it my school so that they can send it to AADSAS, right? I do not need to wait for my application to be complete for my transcripts to be sent?
Same goes for LORs?

What time does the application open? I just know my registrar's office is going to be slammed tomorrow so I'd like to get my matching form ASAP.

4pm Eastern time. There is also a countdown on the AADSAS website.

Giving your transcript matching form on June 2nd will NOT make any difference. Even the 15th of June won't make a difference.

I would if you can successfully talk about calligraphy.

I think last year you couldn't actually access it on June 1st. Either that or it was loading EXTREMELY slowly. I had to wait until like June 5th or something like that to actually be able to get on.

I disagree. My university mailed my transcript and, if I'm remembering right, it takes quite a while (especially in the anxiety-induced state of applying you're in) for the transcript to be processed by the university, mailed, then processed by AADSAS to be matched to your application. Better to get it sent in right away, even if you don't submit yet.

While this takes a while for the request to go through, everyone is operating on the same timeline. A lot of applicants won't even be submitting until July, which is still considered pretty early by most.

In no way was I saying that they should wait to submit it 'just because'. If they are ready to submit right away, then definitely go for it. But worrying about getting the transcript request form in on June 1st vs June 2nd really won't make a difference in the long run.

Have you applied yet? It took like 2 weeks for my transcript to get to AADSAS and I wasn't even that far away from the AADSAS office. They can't verify your GPA unless they have a copy of your transcript. Sure, June 1 v June 2 doesn't really make a difference, but June 15 might. People with multiple transcripts from multiple institutions should try to get everything in order earlier rather than later, too. Some people are aiming to submit "early", but there's no point in that if your transcripts are just going to take another few weeks and delay you. You can control when you hit "submit" but you can't control a paperwork holdup by your university/a USPS issue/an AADSAS processing issue 🙂

Also, I'm definitely not saying you're late if your stuff isn't in by July. But if you're trying for the relative peace of mind of early GPA verification, don't wait to send for your transcripts

Get a copy of your transcript to review for your own purposes. There was an error on mine that cost me 3-4 weeks last year. I only found out when AADSAS told me. Learn from my mistake

This is AWESOME advice- it is easily in the top 3 pieces of advice regarding applying to dental schools. Thank you, Fogorvostan!

Do yall think it is a good idea to get one of my LOR's from my martial arts instructor/ the school I worked at from 8th grade? My other LOR's are my dentist, research professor and last one a biology professor. What do yall think about them

Haha glad I can share one piece of advice that is actually useful.

I seriously almost cried when I got that email from AADSAS. Not to mention, I had to call them to find out what the mistake was. So just like @hellofuturedentists said, I then got to enjoy 3 or so hours of hold music while trying not to have a mental breakdown.

Good times.

Yes and yes.
So do i physically need to print out the transcript matching form and give it to my school? I live 2.5 hours away from school now and really don't want to have to drive all the way there or mail it to them or something... Is there any electronic way that it can be done?

If it's going to be a strong letter go for it!

I would see if any of the schools you are applying to require more than one science professor. I know a few of mine did (can't remember which ones off of the top of my head).

If you have a question that probably doesn't need its own thread but you still want someone to answer it, ask it here! I'm sure many SDN folk will be happy to answer, and this way people will be able to see previous questions without searching through lots of old threads.
Questions can be super specific and there is no such thing as a dumb question here! Ask whatever you want, especially if it will calm your nerves about this cycle.
Have fun :writer:

P.S. Here's another informative thread for guidance! http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...7-application-cycle-and-the-universe.1197114/

P.P.S And another http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/aadsas-faq-compilation.1020426/

Somehow I cant find a thread answering my question.
Does someone knows how to write a letter of explanation for the FAP. I am not able to provide my parent W2 because his employer never gave him one. The FAP guide only says "Copies of 2015 Federal tax returns (including the 1040 tax forms, W2s, W9Sor 1099s) from you, your spouse and your parents/guardians, or a letter of explanation if you are unable to submit all required documents.", but I have no idea of how to do a letter of explanation and I already have over an hour trying to find information.

Thank you.

Do they really penalize you like that if you make one small typo in the coursework entry on AADSAS?

One of my schools had an option to upload any forms that needed to be sent along with my transcript.
One of my schools required me to snail mail it to them.
One of my schools just had me email a copy of the form to registrar's email.

Check with your school

Probably depends on your school. My school lets you order over the internet.

My undergrad forgot to say that I graduated on my transcript -_-

Yikes- They should have just called the undergrad. and confirmed. Seriously....bureaucracy in this country...

If they're in a good mood, they fix it. If not, they make you fix it but bump you up to the front of the verification line when you re-submit. Still a pain though. Better to not have a typo

Yeah once I finally found out what the mistake was, I had to call my registrar and get them to fix it, which was way more difficult than it should I have been. I was like "I HAVE MY DIPLOMA ON MY WALL FFS". Then reorder the transcript, then wait for AADSAS to receive it, then wait for grade verification all over again.

FML

I should have known better too. They also had written on my transcript that I went to Seton Hall and not Seton Hill for DE. Totally the wrong school in the wrong state, but I caught that mistake when I applied for graduation the year prior.

Remember this when your undergrad. calls you for alumnus donations and tries to remind you of how well they treated you.

Do you think my research professor would count as a science professor also? He teaches at a different school but is a teacher at that medical school and obviously he is not my professor.

Did you have access to the unofficial transcript or was this mistake only on the official one?

Honestly you're best bet is to call up the schools you're applying to to see what they have to say. I was surprised to find out that most schools I asked counted a letter from one of my statistics professors as "science". I know some of them really want professors and not just research coordinators, but once again, might as well just call up and ask.

Do you think my research professor would count as a science professor also? He teaches at a different school but is a teacher at that medical school and obviously he is not my professor.
If he's not your professor, it probably doesn't count as a science professor. The point of that letter is to see how you perform in a science class, which he can't attest to. I'd get a letter from someone who's actually taught you

My alum donation was my out of pocket tuition 🤣

It would have to be your professor.

The mistake was on the official one. My unofficial one never showed whether I graduated or not. It just showed what I got in each course.
