Atlantic Bridge 2019 - Chances, Acceptance, Waitlist.

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am in my 3rd yr of undergrad in Canada
Took ap bio chem physics and calculus in high school
3.89 Gpa
Applied to 5yr programs only For rcsi ucc and nuig
Got into rcsi and UCC. Waiting on NUIG because I really want to go there.
Did research with a professor for 2 years, volunteering in an orphanage and with marginalized youth, shadowed a physician last summer, 2yr tutoring high school and middle school students, leader for mentorship program at my univeristy
Took the mcat (126/125/123/126)

So can nuig offers come today or Monday? I called Atlantic bridge again today and they said they just started reviewing 5 year applicants.

Hmm, it does seem very unlikely. Definitely not today. Remember, Ireland is 7 hours ahead of California time, so it's currently around 10 PM.

I would expect most offers to come after Wednesday/Thursday next week at the earliest.

However, if you are an extremely qualified candidate, maybe they could make a very quick offer on Monday? Not sure. When is your exact deadline to pay for UCC/RCSI (midnight?)?

Accepted to Cork 4 year program 🙂 Was hoping to head to Dublin (Easier job hunting for my partner's line of work), but didn't receive any interview invites. Will be accepting my seat, but still hoping a Canadian school pulls through post-interview.
Congrats! ! We have that problem with my wife line of work as well when considering Galway/Dublin.

If you and your partner learn anything about the work visa process/have any tips on moving as a couple I would love to hear it. Thanks!

I have looked a little into the requirements and the requirements for the work permit are pretty straight forward. Depending on what field your partner is in they either have to file for a regular work permit (processing ca n take up to 12 weeks) or may be eligible for Critical Skills Employment Permit. The information on regular permits can be found here Employment Permits - DBEI and the information of critical skills employment permits (which is an expedited process) can be found here Critical Skills Employment Permits - DBEI. (list for which is Highly Skilled Eligible Occupations List - DBEI )

Declined both my RCSI and UCD offers. Will be attending school in America. Hope it goes to someone still waiting!
Congrats! Did you get accepted into a MD or DO school?
By the way, I would always advise Canadian candidates to chose US MD and DO schools (applying a minimum of one or two cycles) over going international irrespective of the fact that Irish and Australian schools provide high quality education. I feel like Canadian applicants apply for Canadian MD schools and then Irish/Australian schools without even bothering on applying to US which does not make sense in my onion considering it will be more difficult for IMGs each year.

I'll be attending a DO school. I was questioning whether to go IMG vs DO, and DO is the better route in my opinion 10/10. Not to say anyone can't succeed as an American IMG, but the odds are immediately stacked against you. The success you achieve in medical school is all highly personal though so I don't want to dissuade anyone who is considering going to school via Atlantic Bridge. These schools are not the Caribbean who are for-profit and act as a surrogate for Americans who cant get into US schools - these schools are premier European schools whose mission is to train physicians for Europe (Not to say students who go Caribbean can't come back and be good doctors - hint back to how medical school success is highly personal. There are too many qualified applicants for American MD/DO schools, but a lot of students do go to the Caribbean because they are simply not qualified academically for a US medical education).

I went neurotic mode and spoke with American MDs and DOs, first year American students at RCSI, Irish physicians who went to UCD and RCSI who have been practicing sub-specialities in the states for a number of years, and a PGY-2 resident from Cork who is an American. After doing all of that plus looking at the hard data I decided to go DO. Understand you can't simply look at match data for IMGs and take it for what it is - you have to understand selection bias/a saturated applicant pool, as well as follow the money with IMG friendly institutions as to whom is funding their resident salaries. Hope this can help anyone looking to apply to Atlantic Bridge or who is on the fence about a decision. Im happy to speak to anyone individually who PMs me.

Lots of info online. I found one really great blog about it, will go find the link and post it.

It’s seems like the hardest part will be finding a job, as from my understanding you must have a job offer before you can apply for a work visa. I haven’t looked into it all that much yet, but as my partner is an electrical engineer I think he is considered for a critical skills permit. I imagine most workers would rather hire someone who can start right away. Hey

Is anyone still waiting on RCSI/Cork/Limerick/Trinity GEM programs? Feels kind of quiet D:

Anyone else going to UCD for GEM? Would be nice to know others before I start lol

Thanks! Ya I've read everything on immigration sites, just no actual personal accounts of how hard it was or where you found housing as a couple, etc. Everything the schools offer is really for like the single student. My wife is in finance and has tech experience, the critical skills list is quite confusing as it goes more by title than by industry.

Any tips for UCD Skype interview. What type of questions and type of prep needed. Thanks

So I called Atlantic bridge today (again lol) and they said NUIG is going to start sending out 5 yr offers today. I don't know if that means that all acceptances and rejections are coming today/ all acceptances/ some acceptances or whatever but at least there's a high possibility of at least getting some type of response today. I'm hoping I get an offer from them before Monday because the deadline to confirm ucc is coming up and I really want to go to nuig!!!!so if they confirm before Monday I can accept their offer without taking the chance of losing UCC.

Congrats on your UCC acceptance! If you don’t mind me asking, why do you prefer NUIG?

For NUIG, are they sending responses through AB (email) or direct email? Any idea?

Thanks

Congratulations!

Congrats! That is very exciting for you! Hopefully you hear from Trinity soon so you have a proper choice 🙂

Thank you, appreciate it. I'm honestly baffled. Completely shocked. Did not expect it this soon. I have to make some very big decisions now, but I'm honoured. Has anyone else received an offer yet?

Still waiting to receive my decision letter so hoping I can join you in celebrating!

Holy I can't believe it. I just got accepted to NUIG.

Wow that's amazing! Congratulations! You deserve it! And thank you for sharing. Not going to lie, I’ve waited so long to hear back from NUIG that my stomach dropped to hear you’ve been accepted. Fingers crossed I’ll hear back soon too!

All the best to you, I am sure you will hear soon, remember no news is good news, and also 2nd round offers will be released in a few weeks.
Positive thinking,
Best,

Congratulations! Would you mind sharing your stats? if its okay?
Hey man, my stats are in a really long post in this forum (page 5). You can also see them if you click on my name and see my history. 🙂

Yeah, I can honestly say that I would have felt the same way had I not received an offer and others did. I'm surprised to see that no one else on this forum has received an offer yet, you're all plenty qualified. They'll probably be rolling out offers for the next 5 hours and tomorrow, I'd guess. Your stats are strong, dude. You'll probably get in. I didn't take the MCAT either so don't worry about that.

Congrats! Did you get in for the 5 year or 6 year?
5 year! Did you apply to 5 or 6 year?

I still haven't heard anything! Definitely more real to know someone else did :S

Thank you, friend. 🙂 Where are you looking to go (#1 choice)?
My number #1 school is probably trinity due to it being in Dublin and would be an easier time for my bf to find a job, but NUIG is high on my list as well.

Absolutely. You're going to be spamming refresh on that email for the next day and a half, aren't you, haha. I received notice solely through email. I don't have any notice of a fedex package coming yet (signed up with the fedex notification delivery manager service).

I'm in the exact same situation. Trinity is my number one, NUIG a very close number two. It would be tremendously helpful to my GF if we were around Dublin. She'd be making such a huge sacrifice coming to Ireland, so I would at least like to make sure we're in the city with the most possible job opportunities.

Definitely in the same boat on that one. Not a lot of jobs on the market in Galway for my wife, especially needing sponsorship! What is your game plan for funding the amounts over the $175K max loans? Dublin is quite expensive to live in!

I thankfully have some money saved up, family assistance, and also potential scholarships (not school base but private) so my loans will be limited and able to cover my tuition costs.

Jk just got my rejection notice from Trinity :/ So NUIG is now #1 lol

AB just confirmed 2nd round will be late April for NUIG and TCD. He outright said I didn’t receive a 1st round offer from those schools but I’m “eligible” for a second round offer. So, if you’re sitting on the edge of your seat and repetitively refreshing email, then you might as well email them for an update.

Hi there, I was just wondering is UCD starting the 2nd round of offers or is that done?
