Looking for some advice. Was offered an audition at a program I’m interested in, and the only month that fits with my schedule would be January, and this program conducts interviews from October-December. Is there any benefit of doing an audition after interview season? Obviously no guarantee that they would invite me for an interview in the first place. Just with the uncertainty of next year I’m wondering if I should just go ahead and accept their offer. Let me know your thoughts please!

Things can change up to the point the match lists are submitted. The rotation serves as an advanced interview for a lot of programs, so it is definitely worth doing if you can knock it out of the park.

If you interview there, you can compare your interview day to your audition experience and it can help you place the program on the rank list. Likewise, the program can do the same for you. It goes without saying that this rotation can help or hurt your chances of being ranked there, so you wanna do your best blah blah blah.

Yes! I know some programs that I interviewed at got together (PD, program faculty, residents, PC) about a week before their rank order was due, and went through all candidates being ranked to put them in order. It might be an advantage (or disadvantage if you do a bad job during that rotation) to do a rotation in January as they will have a fresh memory of you.

I was wondering if anyone could answer a question about how these clerkships are scheduled. I just received an offer for a Sub-I from mid November through mid December. I have had other Sub-I's offered beginning June 1st and July 3rd. What is the deal with different sites having different schedules for their clerkships? How have others solved this problem?

Most people have to take "vacation" time to bridge the gap if it's an awkward time in between (i.e 1 or 3 weeks). Otherwise you can try to get back in cycle and fill the gap with 2w or 4w rotations (whether its audition rotations or not).

Ok. thanks. this will be difficult for me as I don't have any vacation months. I'm going to have to figure something out then. Maybe my school will let me split a FP rotation. I guess I'll call clinical education tomorrow and see what they have to say about it.

I honestly gave up trying to jigsaw puzzle auditions together and instead only applied to places that were all on the same cycle as my school calendar. Thankfully there are still plenty of places I'm interested in on that timeline. One option I was considering was trying to smash two 2 week auditions around the 4 weeker but in that scenario I decided I wasn't interested enough in the programs offering 2 week rotations to try and make that work. Probably would work though if you wanted the audition bad enough.
