Hello everyone! My name is Sean and I'm also a part of the class of 2010. I am from the other side of Phoenix as well and have had some of the same issues finding a place near the school that is not on the "D-List". I'm hoping to eventually get a condo or house out there, but for now I might settle for a studio not located inside the 101... We should definately get together sometime before school starts!

There are a lot of MS II's that have homes and are seeking roommates. I think that's a great option because you will get a great deal on a rate and have the advantage of living with an MS II who can offer advice or have books you might not have. The problem is most of their offers are found on campus or through the grapevine among other MS II'. I will try toi see if I can get more of those MS II's to post their room availability on this thread. I'm sure you have already done this but if you haven't, ask your big sibs if they know anyone in the second year class that needs a roommates.

I would like to go to the Monday night game. The Cards are playing the Bears that night. It's the first MNF game in 7 years. I think it's a great time because it's on a Monday night so it will be after exams for both the 2009 and 2010 class. However, it will be really expensive to buy tickets because the demand for that game will be high so I might end up going to the Lions game since both of our teams are terrible and the demand might not be high. Last year, about 10 of us attended a Suns game (vs the Spurs). Yes, they were nose bleed seats but it was fun because all of us sat together. It was a great time.

Wowsers, Bears v. Cardinals. Guess I won't know which team to root for since I'm homegrown in Illinois.

Mark your calendars, November 19th the Detroit Lions are playing the Arizona Cardinals...I already bought two tickets, my dad is even flying out here to watch the Lions lose. If any of you want to go, start looking for tickets. Also Joe, I'm thinking in that two weeks off in November were going to have to make a Vegas trip, what do you think?

Sounds bueno to me!! Big fan of Vegas. Plus, I gotta go see a game in the new cardinals stadium.

Hi guys:
I've gotten some inquiries about this condo that will be finished in July. Here's a quick update. It's on Greenway and 35th Ave, about 10-12 minutes from school (against traffic) and is close to everything, including the freeway. It is tucked in the very back - very quiet and private. It's BIG - 1850 square feet, three stories, 4 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms. It has a HUGE great room/kitchen on the main (second floor); a master, two other bedrooms, and laundry on the third floor; and a separate room and full bathroom on the ground floor, which will be a second master. All brand new appliances are included. Pricing is as follows: $450 for the two rooms upstairs, $650 for the master upstairs, and $550 for the master downstairs. If all rooms are filled, all utilities will be included. This includes high speed internet and cable TV. With all the space, this place feels like a home rather than an apartment. PM me if interested. I look forward to meeting you all in August. 😀 Have a great summer.

Cards going to be a major improvement with James and Leinert. We'll see how that works out. Does anybody else think the stadium looks like a space ship? Then again all of us in chambana know about spaceship shaped stadiums, just go check out the Assembly Hall...

You never know with the Cardinals...best thing to do is expect the worst, so you won't be disappointed when they suck. I saw the new stadium for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and it was crazy looking!! I can't wait to go inside.

Hey guys,

I just put down my deposit for a spot in the class of 2010. I just wanted to drop by and say hi and to keep the thread moving 🙂.

A little about myself:

I'm Jason, 23 years old, currently living in glendale, AZ. I love basketball, great fan of Steve Nash before he came to the Suns. Some one wanted to start an intramural basketball team and I'm all for that. Also, I'm a taurus and I enjoy nice walks on the beach.

Where do you come up with a name like SEACOW...? I love it...I truly love it. And the quote is good. Chick dig OMM. You know how to touch them in all the right places...to get their neck realigned.

Nice to hear we got some ballers in our class.
As for the Suns, exciting team but my Rockets are gonna take care of them next season, especially after we pick up Sheldon Williams tomorrow (hopefully.) By the way, anyone here down for fantasy basketball next season?

I will be in San Prado...along with a few others so far. Nice walk across the street for class!

Rockets Shmockets! Amare will take care of Williams, no problem. Count me in for the fantasy basketball. Sports are my biggest hurdle when it comes to studying.

I'll second that "sports" problem. I'm hoping that doesn't interfere with school. It's going to be a major life adjustment going to med school. Guess dropping my part time job that I've had all of school will help.

Is there an OMM treatment for sports addiction?

There's maybe OMM treatment for sports addiction, I hear the cranials does miracles 😛.

As for suns and rockets, I'm very iffy on the status of Stoudamire. If he's still injured, then suns are gonna be under handed again and they won't win the championship. Worst off, he could be traded even though they have said they are not gonna trade him. I wouldn't put it pass them just because they said they won't. If the suns still retains their run and gun mentality, Yao's not gonna be able to to run with them. Unless the rookie is the next Dwayne Wade (i don't know rookies much, weakest part of my game) then the rockets are not gonna win because they will have to rely on McGrady and I think he's going down hill. I hope not tho cause I think he's a great player. Better than Numero Ocho of the Lakers just because he's more of a team player and has better attitudes.

As for fantasy basketball, I'm out 🙂, don't know how to do it lol.

Congratulations on your acceptance! Like Rahul, I'm also an MS II at AZCOM. You will come to see that the administration and the student body share a common vision for our school; we are continually making strides to make AZCOM one of the best medical programs in the nation.

If you have any questions or are in need of advice, feel free to ask! If there's one bit of advice that I could share with you now, it would be to enjoy the summer. I look forward to meeting the Class of 2010 in August.

You're right about Amare's uncertain future. Although I don't think he will be traded, very few players retain their explosiveness after tearing cartilage in their knee (Penny Hardaway) and the ones who do are plaqued with "Jumper's Knee" for the rest of their careers (Vince Carter.) What I could see the Suns doing is trading Marion to clear up cap room to sign Diaw and Barbosa, especially because his role will shrink once Kurt Thomas and Amare come back. As for the Rockets, everything depends on McGrady. Yao has finally taken his game to the level we expected him to when we drafted him over Amare. Luther Head is an explosive SG, Rafer was running the point well the latter half of the season, and hopefully we will draft Sheldon to fill the void at PF. The rockets definitely need depth to win a championship, but if T-Mac stays healthy (a big IF), theirs no reason we shouldn't be a top 4 seed in the West.

I'm glad we have some sports enthusiasts in our class. By the way, any predictions for the Germany versus Argentina match. I call Argentina 3-1.

Haha I'm not really a hardcore sports fan but I do follow a little. Personally, I love marion. I don't think they should trade him despite poor showing in the play offs this year. I still think he has a lot left in him and can take his game even further and the suns need his explosiveness. With amare's injury and his leaping ability is uncertain, they'll need someone for those big dunks that will fire up the teams especially on the road. I don't see anyone else on the team that's capable of filling that role besides Marion.

As for Diaw and Barbosa, Diaw is getting better, but that is because he didn't play at all with the Hawks. Barbosa need to be more consistent. I think he's very hit or miss right now. Also, they both have one year left. Let see how they performs next year before anything happens. As of now, I believe that Marion is more valuable than Diaw and Barbosa.

Rockets, well, I'd like to see Yao Ming do well. However, I'd like Nash to win a championship first as he has fewer chances than Yao.

World Cup, I favor Germany. I can't predict scores but it seems to me this time Germany's the better team. Unless Argi brings it big time, they're not gonna win, not saying they have no chance, just saying they need to play well.

I'm just going to pass on the NBA. Love college hoops. I'll stick with baseball (my favorite) and football. And soccer every 4 years. Go Germany!

Hope you guys caught the Germany-Argentina game today. Nothing beats the drama of penalty kicks in the World Cup. Italy-Germany should be a great matchup...

Hi,
I'm part of AZCOM's new batch. I just found out about this thread from my big sis. I'm currently in Seattle and will be moving to AZ first part of August. Has anyone found any good apartments in the area yet? I guess it's still early, but coming up fast!

That Germany game was pretty awesome. Lehmann was really on the ball at the net. Whew, 10 days til I go to Germany. Hopefully Germany will be awesome and electric from a world cup victory.

Got all the titers, fin aid, and transcripts out of the way. It's smooth sailing from here til school besides a little bit of living money plus moving...

First off, welcome to the board calliedoc. There's plenty of appartments around the school from what I hear so you probably won't have much of a problem.

Soccer: Germany and Argentina was pretty good. But yeah, I'm looking forward to the Germany-Italy game.

I was told by Dr. Kosinski, the Dean of Student to wait on the titers until orientation. Apparently financial aid office will pay for it haha. Or rather, we pay the school, and school's financial aid office will give us back some of our own money to pay for it. Good stuff.

Matt aka Inquiring Mind is in charge of setting up the place and time. Matt is unofficially in charge of the welcoming committee for the class of 2010. He and Kona are both studying abroad for the next 4 weeks, which is I have posted a lot recently. I feel someone needs to take up the slack until they return. 🙂

Hey I just wanted to throw this out there let me know if everybody thinks it's good. Perhaps we can add a lunch or something in there or another activity in addition to those listed below. This will give everybody some options in case you can't make one or another or you want to make all three.

Are there any players that have had decent careers after having microfracture surgery? I have no doubt of Amare's return however, I don't believe he will ever be close to 100%.

As far as Marion being traded, I say nay. He is too much of an instrumental part of the team. The suns already have offensive rebounding issues so why make matters worse by getting rid of your best rebounder?

Anyone see Superman yet? What are your thoughts if any?

I went to student services and heard something similar. I didn't hear that they would pay for our titers, only that we would get them at a reduced cost if we used a certain lab that the school had an agreement with. I may have been misinformed though. Either way, good news that we won't be eating the entire cost ourselves. I was also told that we still are required to get our vaccinations in before orientation.

btw, I just got finished watching the Dodgers humiliate my soon-to-be hometown heroes. Great night to be at Dodger Stadium and see history in the making [Nomar hit 3x with the ball?! Insane]. Anywho, not sure that I'll be in town before the 20th for those other activities, but I'll be in on the wings for sure.

sweet. I hope Nomar doesn't get snubbed on the final vote for the Allstar game. As much as he sucked when he was with my cubbies, he's really hittin' well right now. Ah...guess '08 will be our year, make it an even hundred.

are you serious?! Just consider for a moment these majestic creatures...harvested for their luscious fur, adored by thousands at the annual Spanish Fork Llama Fest [http://www.utahvalleyllamas.com/llamafest.htm], fantastic expectorators, and all-around pack animals regardless of the climate involved.

And as if those reasons weren't enough, just check out this bad A song devoted solely to llamas. It's the cat's pajamas [and super annoying at the same time].

Anywho, I'd be a llama mainly for the prestige within the animal kingdom, as well as the intimate identification within a niche zoological elitist society [which, I can only imagine, llamas belong to].

v3rbal, I just saw the llamas from Spanish in the Provo city parade, and I thought of you.

haha. That's fairly random and funny. When I was cleaning out my apt. last week up in Provo before moving back home to California, I had to part with my 9'x4' "Llama Fest" banner that had been gifted to me by a buddy freshman year. That thing hung proudly in my room for a number of years before I figured that it was time for it to find a new home and not make the move to Phoenix. *sniff* That was a difficult day for me.

Everybody must be on vacation. Surely we're not running out of things to talk about. Does anybody know if AZCOM integrates PDA's a lot into their program? I'm looking at getting one.

I'm back from Europe finally! Good to see all of my future classmates are starting to post on here. I think I'm going to move down about 8/15. Still trying to sort out the apartment thing...I want San Prado bad but there isn't an opening until 8/31. I may end up at San Lagos instead.

So what is the consensus on the immunizations? Get all of that stuff done except the titers before orientation, or wait to get it all done at orientation?

I'm excited for school to start. For now it's time to go camping with my girlfriend for the next three weeks. Looking forward to meeting all of you guys though!

Best. Summer. Ever.

I meant BigTen Midwest wingman. As long as we can agree on one thing. Michigan has the football and Illinois has the basketball. Put your name down for Old Chicago, Rhythm Room and BW3's. Surely there are ladies at these places...if not the waitresses beware...

You don't really have a choice but to use Cox. Do not use Qwest DSL for internet because Qwest is horrible. Cox is not much better in regards to the service department but any chance to avoid Qwest. Satellite can be a pain especially with installation and weather problems, plus you would have to pay extra for the features you want aka NFL ticket.

My wife and I had problems with Cox and their installation. We moved into our new place on June 28th and they told us they couldn't start service until July 12th. It's a long story but eventually I got service today. I got lucky and I met a cool technician who works for Cox. He came to my place and hooked up everything and didn't charge me any installation fees or anything.

I recommend a couple of things

1. Pay for the Insurance plan that costs $3.00. If there is any problem with your installation internally meaning inside your apartment or house, the plan would cover any repairs that you needed otherwise you would pay $45.00 for the visit.

2. Do not select the free professional installation. Choose the self-install option. The free professional installation is code for the "dude hooks your cable boxes to your TV." You can easily do that on your own. Hook up the boxes yourself and then call Cox to send a signal which will activate the boxes. This is called the "Fast Connect" option.

3. Call Brent Griggs at (602) 694-1543 Tell him Rahul from San Prado sent you. He will get you a good deal. This is the person who helped me. I found him at the last minute and decided to give him a call and see if he would help me out. This guy was awesome. You won't have to wait as long either if you call him to set up your service. If you go through the internet (which is what I did) or call Cox directly, it will take 2-3 weeks before they can set you up.

Your plans sound great and I will try to meet up with you guys on one of your nights. And to let you know several of us including Matt are going to be going out during orientation week and any one of you is welcome to join us as well. We will be going clubbing and bar hopping in Scottsdale and other locales. I also want to add that in addition to Matt and I's group, there will be other groups of students that will have plans as well. They may not be posting on SDN but during orientation week, you will meet those students so keep that in mind. Try not to limit yourself to one groups (ours included). Meet as many people as you can. Last year, we had several groups that did their own thing and it worked out nicely. Scottsdale is not for everyone and vice versa. One night, we had one group going to Tempe, one group going to Scottsdale and one group staying in Glendale. So do not worry, there will be something for everyone that week. Orientation week is fun so take advantage of it.

Rahul,

Sounds good. I think that's my main goal during the first two weeks. Try to make as many connections as possible. I was hesitant to put anything during orientation figuring that there would probably be plenty of impromtu "going out". I hope we get a nice mix of upperclassmen as well as newcomers to old chicago and such.

About the whole television internet thing, the discount you get for keeping cox bundled is like ten bucks. If you go to best buy you can find out about the promotions, for instance the year of Charter high speed cable internet that I pay only 19.99 for. As for television, I think unless you plan on getting the $16 limited cable pack with Cox then you are better off getting a satellite. I am actually a regional manager for a satellite company that can do both Direct and Dish Network and can therefore work out some pretty sweet promotions. My friend is going to live about a mile from us in Surprise and we are going to actually split one account so we pay half as much. The amount that you save by getting a satellite over going with basic cable outweighs any discount they give you for bundling. Sorry off of my soapbox and back to work....just hate the cable monopoly, sort of like walmart! :meanie:

siriceman64: put me down for bdubs, not sure for the other ones, family will be in town...sounds good we'll have to check out ASU too. Hey do you have mlb.tv or do you know anyone who does? because i was thinking of getting that in order to watch the tigers games. It looks pretty sweet.

rahul: thanks for the advice, i'll be sure to call him!

joe: remind me to hit you when i get down there....hahahaha
