Hey guys! I'm taking my DAT's next week and I'm done studying for everything. I was at Barnes and Noble yesterday and picked up the Barrons AP Bio book just to compare what I had learned from Cliffs AP Bio and what a difference it was. There are many things that it covers in depth (except taxonomy) and it was a much much better read and better explanations for everything. I haven't taken the test yet so I don't know which one is better to study off of but if you get a chance def recommend reading through. The explanations on concepts is very good!
Good luck studying!!!

I totally agree with you Barron's AP Bio Rocks. It has more questions at the end of each chapter, and has a lot of figures and diagrams too! I'm actually reading cliffsap bio, Kaplan Blue Book, and Barrons AP Bio, and I would Reccommend Barrons AP Bio over all of them!

AGREE 100%👍

Every time someone asks about what study materials to use, I always recommend to study from Cliffs AND Barrons... Since they have different styles and word things differently, what you might glaze over in one, you'll definitely catch in the other. 👍

Do you guys recommend the Barron's AP Biology flashcards too???

I dont have the cards for Barrons but I do have the Cliff cards and frankly I think if you read through the book and take imp notes or highlight things thats all thats in the cards anyway. Not to mention there are like 500 cards in the pack which takes forever to go through anyway...

i just bought this book today and it looks so much better/easier to understand than cliffs. cliffs seems kind of boring compared to barrons ap, but ill have to check out the material b4 i decide which i like more. ill probably use both
also, theres so many freakin ap bio books @ barnes&nobles......has anyone ever tried mcgraw hill or w/e its called? it didnt seem too bad when i was skimming....
& i was tempted to buy barrons flashcards but honestly who has time for that ontop of everything else so i opted out

Why do you have 2x as many posts as I do?!

Um... yes... I wouldn't worry too much if you were some BIO major and you've gone through Cliffs + Barrons... and you've a decent grasp of the concepts for bio. Section is kind of random and luck will play a huge factor.

I hope you have the QR and RC nailed down.

5 steps to a 5? It's written in a casual language that's easy to read. I'm mainly using it as a source of practice questions but I've skimmed through it and it's quite nice.

I gotta chime in with my opinion because I bought both books and struggled with which one to study more. Overall Cliffs reads like an encyclopedia and Barron's is more of a childrens picture book. If I had to pick one I would do Cliffs because I felt it covered more detail. Thus that was the book I studied the most and got a 26 in bio....

Because the random questions that one doesn't know on the test can be reasoned through it helps to be exposed to way more detail to apply this detail on the real test. However, for those acquiring resources and have the time I would highly recommend buying and studying both because it will be very apparent what each book offers to complement your knowledge base...

haha i was attacted to the childrens picture book quality of it......thats why i like it!! but i have cliffs too, i used it last year for my DAT and got a 19 on bio? wtf fail. i blame that on the fact that i had the worlds most randomest questions ever about random eggs hatching and like aliens and martians for all i know....it was SO RANDOM and im a bio major.
so ill just add barrons ap in the mix this time & hope to break at least a 20 on bio

What about the Barron's DAT book? That's the only one I have. I went through Cliff's and KBB though, I've been scoring between 16-21 on my practice tests (mostly 19). I dunno if this is enough
