I have a brand new whole package needed to practise preclinical work at home in great condition. Anyone who's going to apply to California schools will need just these to practise at home and get through.

The list is-

Compressor
Hand piece
columbia typodont
maniquin-- rod+ head
set of instruments from Duggans

For more details please PM me.
hello,
For how much u will give columbia typodont,Is it equilibrated.
how much is manikin.

I have some questions here
1- what do you use for the cl2 amalgum groove other than a hatchet?
2-which bur you use mainly in class 3 composite prep, is it 330 ?
3-which composite shade do we use, that will match the typodont teeth colour?
4- do we ever use flowable composite or only the hybrid in class 3 and 4?
5- proximal clearance in class 2 composite...is it as critical as the class 2 amalgum clearance, I remember the amalgum class 2 should have 0.4 prox., and if more we fail, what about the composite class 2, is it also 0.4 or even up to 1mm is not failing ( I am only concerned because of the bevel which widens the clearance)
Thanks, and good luck guys

here's what I think. These are only some suggestions for you to try out:
1- high speed 1/4 round bur or slow speed 38 006
2- 330 works fine. HS #2 round also works
3- any shade doesn't really matter...within reason.
4- Use the composite you feel comfortable working with. Try both and see what works best for you. The packable type seems to be favoured than flowable as it can be contoured somewhat before curing, less chances of bubbles, can control increments. Try combining them.
5-CII AMG & COMP proximal clearances vary from 0.4-0.7mm all are within normal limits. In instances even if you go over this limit you might not fail!
Good luck to you

I'm interested in the compressor & handpiece. I'd would like to know how much they are.

Hi,
The confirmation letters are out guys. If u've been scheduled , u should receive the confirmation letters these days.
It says that you get the typodont by mail only. and u have to prepare a prepaid package for it. Does anybody know how that works?

Thanks!

I think that we have to take our typodont to the Post Office and weigth it there with the respective box, wrapped envelop, or simple bag, to be sen it back to us and, tell the teller that you want to pre-paid for delivery from the Dental Board of California to the address labeled on the box (your address or the address that you want the typodont be send). I think that is how it works. But you can check with the Dental Board to clear doubts. Best luck for everyone taking the RT Exam this April, God is right next to you, do your best and let him do the rest...!!!
:luck: 🙂

I talked to somebody from the Dental Board and told me that they will start sending the confirmation cards this week.

Doctors, get prepared and well informed about everything. I see there is a lot of confussion about typodonts, courses, dvd's, cheeks, etc.

This is what I know:

Kilgore typodont: Is not available on the market right now. Some people have ordered it from Duggan. I ordered at UOP (through the internet). I ordered two, one to practice and the other one for the exam. I know, it is a lot of money...the total was $500. something. The other way is to buy a regular Kilgore typodont for $160 directly from the company.

I already saw the Duggan's dvd's. They are just OK, but very expensive.

Courses: I am going to take another course in UOP in March. It is going to be a week course.

Cheeks: It is very important to practice with the rubber cheeks...it is completly different from what we were doing before.

I live in San Francisco. If somebody is interested in discussing the RT exam, let me know.

Good luck and energy to everybody.

Hi I live in Foster city too. I am taking the exam at UOP. Can we get together sometime to discuss? Email me at [email protected] or call me at 650-218-5753. Thanks

the new kilgore 200 CA typodont is in stock now. i called the company and they said that the embrasure area between teeth is smaller. the lady i talked to didn't know any thing else about the modification of the typodont.if anyone got the new typodont. let us know if there are any kind of problem with it.

Hi

I have many Kilgore teeth as I thought to use Kilgore typodont for the bench exam. I have chenged my mind and will use Columbia's typodont instead. If somebody would like to exchange Columbia's teeth to Kilgore's teeth, let me know. email me at: [email protected]

What about the bench course; Duggan or UCLA?
If you've practiced before and have a good concept of the preps then UCLA will take you to the next level. It's condensed in a week and fast paced. If you recently started learning the concepts and in need to develop your skill sets, then Duggan would help. It's a spaced out schedule with time to practice and learn.

Ultimately it's in your hands (literally) regardless of which program. Both have a successful track record. You will certainly benefit a great deal from either. Lots of info for the brain, but the hands have to deliver the goods!

Hi everyone,
I would like to ask if there's anyone here who haven't submitted their applications yet. I have my reference number posted on the website. I submitted my application before but they sent it back because the filing deadline was not established yet. I have no idea if they (dbc) will still be accepting new applicants for future exams. Please help...

can any body tell me how is the uop course for the rt exam?
In my opinion, it's the only quality legitimate course in Northern California. (UCLA in southern Cal). Well worth it, very beneficial, and is a program that's conducted from a Cal. dental school to say the least. If you're up north don't settle for another - take it!

thanks again,

one more ques, the exam preps are limited to just 10 teeth for the april exams,is that going to be the case for he rest of the exams as well or will we have to prep all the teeth like the previous bench syllabus? also for future exams will we have amalgam restoration ? or just class 11 preps? and also is the rubber dam out for this exam,or out completely? i guess i had more than 1 ques...

hi,has anyone taken the uop course? is it true that in the mornings they put on a slide show and then in the afternoon's you practise and then the instructor's check ur work?

Hi mekish ,

Hmm...I was under the impression that the board picks out the references numbers for the next exam and then you send your application if you are chosen, Yasi, Mekish and Ani. Are you suggesting that we can all send applications during the filing period and hope to get picked, and to keep doing that for every scheduled exam until we are? Just asking....

Hey, good luck to all SDNers taking the RT. ' Been there, done that, and hopefully I will pass the next time🙂

Hey...this doesn't sound so bad, does it? At least no grooves and boxes to deal with (as in partial coverage crowns). So many things can go wrong with those. I have a feeling a lot of candidates will make the grade this time. Rest easy, guys and good luck to all.

Can we claim tax deductions for all the expenses incurred(material, classes) in preparing for the Part3 and Part4 exams ?
If someone has any information regarding this please let me know.
Thanks

hi
you can claim only your tutiion as a tax deduction . so basicaly what fee you paid for any class you took for education you can claim it in tax provided that you had paid that fee before or on 31st dec of the 2005 . but not stuff u bought for the class like instruments and tpyhodont and other material .
hence your tution is only be claimed .

Hi guys,
I sat for the exam on sunday at usc, and the person who sat on saturday on my unit forgot his slow speed, if any one knows somebody who lost his s s handpiece should pm me please.
Thanks

You may claim a max. of $4,000 as a tuition and fees deduction for course fees only. An official receipt from an eligible instituition should be made available to you for proof of payments. Qualified tuition and fees are amounts paid in 2005 for tuition and fees required for the student’s enrollment or attendance at an eligible educational instituition. Tuition and fees paid in 2005 for an academic period that begins in the first 3 months of 2006 can also be used in figuring your deduction!
Qualified tuition and fees do not include amounts paid for the
following: Room and board, insurance, medical expenses, transportation, or other similar personal, living, or family expenses, Course-related books, supplies, equipment, and nonacademic activities

Visit the following pdf link for more info:

The composite filling was 10DL 100% positive,
about the cheeks, is up to you, the ones in the exam are very flexible and nothing tied at all. I saw some people were practicing in the maninquin withourt the mask. But I say: try your best in the worst fields that when the field for the war is better you may do better. As well during the exam you have to wear Mask, Eye protection (if you use magnif. loupes you are OK with those), gloves. There is no need for plaster for the typodont. No rubber dam. Do not forget the Rod for your typodont, otherwise you are gonna be in trouble to have the Approve from the Board in mounting. Best luck for everyone. In case you don't find the Rod anywhere, go to Home Depot and bring the typodont they have this rods, you have to ask them to cut them at the right size, as well you can get the small screw there for the rod. I wish you guys The best for everyone, and keep practicing very hard, you are almost there. God speed all of you!!!

infact I didnt know anything about the rod, and they had a bag full of them and provided me with one. so dont have to bring one. the cheek were very flexible, so dont worry about them

It was composite finish of 10 DL , I corrected it ! They had the rods at UCLA , the last time I checked. Off course if u r using kilgore, it normally comes with the rod.

Hey mike,
Don't worry about the mask. I didn't practice with the mask, since I heard the Columbia mask was very inflexible and tough and the the exam facilities have soft, pliable ones. I only had a little bit of trouble while prepping the lower casting prep, but not overmuch. It's up to you, what you feel comfortable with, but distal of 19 is practically unreachable with the columbia rubber. If you're okay with it though,go for it.
Thanks everyone for the good wishes.
