Bench exam ! part 02

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
has any body heard about the date of next RT exam? I think the August exam has been postponed . please let me know if you have heard any thing.
Thank you

Looks like it is going to be moved since we haven't heard a word from them...

At this point in time I think it will be fair for them to postpone. Some candidates are out of state, some are out of the country. It will be difficult for them to arrange for travel and accommodations on a very short notice if exams are given next month. But it is the DBCs decision, not ours.

Just continue practising, guys and hope that the examiners will give passing grades to everyone this time (which might well be the last RT exam if postponed to a later date).

Hi every body
Can you please guide me to useful links for Class 2 cavity preparation, and tooth preparation for porcelain fused to metal crowns.

One of my friends emailed me regarding exam date:

"Just now I called DBC and Jessica said It is going to be in November . But Who knows. "

I sent an email to Dawn at the Dental Board asking regarding date and location of the next RT exam and her reply was. I copied and pasted her response

"Looks like we will have an RT exam in October at UOP and November at USC. We are in the process of updating the web site."

Please someone let me know where I can buy these separators and if someone has it and wants to sell to let me know.

The Dental Board has tentatively scheduled the 2007 RT Examination as follows:
Examination Date: October 19-21, 2007
Location: University of the Pacific, San Francisco

Examination Date: November 9-11, 2007
Location: University of Southern California, Los Angeles

Good luck Everyone.

Hi fellow candidates:

I assume everybody is practising for August like me. I have a question. Do you practise with the cheeks? I have a Columbia Dentoform mask for my manikin, but I think the cheeks are way too hard to retract in order to make a nice prep. Has anyone been successful using the mask? Or have you tossed it away like I did? I remember my previous exam to have softer cheeks. Any inputs?

PS. Please limit ur postings in this forum to things related to the bench exam. It is annyoing to click on the thread to only find out that someone is selling something. Thanks.

I practiced with out cheeks for the exam and found it very difficult to adapt during the exam especially for the full crown on #19. For my next attempt I practiced with the cheeks and it was much easier. I spent 3.5 hrs to complete full crown because of my previous bad experience. Good luck for your exam.

Can anybody please post the assignments for the feb 2007 exam .
Thanks.

1-# 4 MO Class II (Amalgam)

i was wondering where you can purchase the Manikin (frasaco phantom heald P5 with facemask) and the simulator ..

You can go to www.columbiadentoform.com and see the maniken. You can use the frasaco typodont. Try to buy the maniken on ebay (used ) or look in to for sale adds on SDN you can buy it for less than half compared to Duggan or Columbia web site. go to ebay and type dental maniked, fletcher mask etc . you should be able to find some. We did have some announcements here that were offering for very reasonable prices but they were deleted because they should advertise in the for sale add section hopefully someone who has them will pm you.
Good Luck.

hi all ..

i took the 2003 bench exam and failed by a very small margin .. looks like the exam format has changed ..

im planning to give the bench exam another shot and was wondering where you can purchase the Manikin (frasaco phantom heald P5 with facemask) and the simulator ..

how much does the Manikin cost approximately ? i still have my old typodonts I got from Duggan in 2003 and hope they fit the Manikin without any problems.. the handbook mentioes that modified columbia or kilgore typhodonts are necessary at UOP and USC sites .. does this mean the old typhodonts (pre Manikin) are good anymore for practice with the Manikin ?

thanks in advance .. its hard to imagine how to mount my older typhodonts without actually seeing the Manikin and simulator ...

Hi ..

Can anyone from here please tell me what the bench exam confirmation letter says as i cannot find the letter i recived from them back in Feb 24, 2006.

I got a letter from the CA dental baord back in Feb 24, 2006 saying that I was selected for the April exam and was asked to submit the fees if I was interested in sitting for the exam. Because of my circumstances back then, I was unable to take the exam so I did not send them the fees for the exam and therefore was not confirmed to sit for the exam.

However I cannot find that letter now and I noticed that on the FAQ ssection of the CA dental board website, it says that a candidate has to send a letter within 45 days of exam or the file is considered abandoned.

I just wanted to know if you could tell me what exactly the letter said or the specific instructions were if someone did not want to sit for the exam. Was I supposed to send a letter to the board within 45 days of the exam stating that I was still interested in the bench exam ? Or does the 45 day rule only apply only if I paid the fees and got confirmed to take the exam on one of the 3 days and then did not sit for the exam ?

I clearly remember the 45 day rule was not mentioned in the letter . My current understanding is only when a candidate had paid the fees and is confirmed for an exam and then not showing up is considered to have not appeared for the exam.

I am now planning to reapply for the bench axam and wanted to know if I was still eligible. I am not worried about the number of attempts but just wondering if I was considered an absentee or not for the exam.

I pm'ed a couple of memebrs here but I dont kow if they are still active so I am posting this on here.

Can anyone in here please block out your personal information and send me a photocopy or a scanned copy of the letter they sent us back in Feb 2006. Or if you can tell me what the instructions were I would really appreciate it. You all know how hard it is to contact the board on the phone for information like this.

Thanks a lot and if you can send me a copy (fax or scanned document) of the letter i can give you my fax or email id.

As far I remember, 45 day rule is for Re-appearing for Bench (If one is unsucessful). One have to notify the Board within 45 days that applicant want to try again.

If someone don't reapply to confirmation, it may be counted as an attempt but not as disqualification. In your case, it may be considered as an attempt(as if you appear but couldn't clear RT exam).
I guess, You can definately apply for next RT exam. And you can even get a waiver from Board considering your last confirmation as an attempt if you justify your absence with valid reason (it is just a try).

Good Luck

I am not living in california and I am going to practice for USC interview practical exam. I am wondering if anybody has DVDs on preparations and can send me copies.

Thanks!

Before this, unsuccessful candidate need to file a separate letter signifying their intent to retake the exam within 45 days of receipt of failing results. The RT Handbook now say candidates need to RE-APPLY 45 days after receiving the results, with no mention of a letter. So I sent an application with no letter...they didn't include an "intent letter form" anyway with the failing marks--just an re-application form.

Now if you would look at the DBC website that filing period is July 23 to Sept 5.

I am sending another reapplication before Sept 5 aside from what I sent two weeks after I received my failing result last time.

Dear Pharoah.
In order to qualify to take the bench you must have passed part I and part II no later than December 31st 2003 .You can go to www.dbc.ca.gov or better yet go to the following link and there you,ll get all the info you need.

Hi guys,

In one of the corrospondences (postings) by the board earlier this earlier, I kind of faintly recollect them mentioning that the assignments for the exams will be posted 2 weeks in advance on their website. Is that right?

Would we be having the assignments for the exams in Oct-Nov as it was in Feb 2007?

Any thoughts?

Also, is anybosy preparing for the exams in the Bay area (east bay-Fremont) please pm me and we could work together maybe?

Thanks,
Sum

Hi Dentologo,

I was wondering when Dawn said about the assignments being posted 2 weeks before the exam. Did she say that while she talked to you , or is it out on the website somewhere? I do hope it's true and they do it though.

Thanks,
Sum

It will not be same assignments as feb exam, but they will publish the assignment on the web aboout 2 weeks before the exam.🙂

It was acouple of months ago, that a friend had talked to her and she talked to her again in July when they were giving clinical exam at USC and she had commented that the assignments will be the same and they will announce it before the exam as well.
Good Luck.

You mean the same as the Feb 2007 exam right?

That'd be so cool.

Thanks for getting back & good luck!

Sum

WHAAAATTT??? Same assignments as February?

I have been practicing Class II Amalgam DO on # 3, 30 and 19;

Composite prep and fill on premolars;

PFM on #4, #6 and #7

MOD onlay on #4, and 7/8 on #19

3/4 on #6!!!!

You telling me that I've been wasting my time and energy, not to mention my typodont teeth?????

(Anyone who believes that is crazier than me!)

Seriously...

I have a question...can you make the shoulder of the PFM prep less defined on the line angle formed by the shoulder and buccal wall of the prep? If I cut it with flat end cylinder to make it sharp, I also make undercuts. Prep looks pretty, but I risk creating undercuts too. I learned using this bur from Duggans.

Can I leave that area rounded off using a round end taper (856-016) ? That is what many clinicians do anyway. Not too impressive looking, but it works and probably safer for bench exam. Any suggestion?

Thanks.

It is better that a prep work, function and be practical than be impressive looking. So I suggest the latter.
Good Luck.
