There are many veterans with mental health issues like Mr Ortiz. We need to be a more compassionate society and willing to work with these people ….

Has anyone confirmed he’s been really freed? Or just serving out his sentence in the USA ? Is Spain gonna to ask that he be sent there? I don’t think they can retry him for a crime he already has been convicted of in Venezuela. But USA and Spain have extradition policies

Every single Dem state needs to redraw the districts before 2026. California, NY, NJ, IL, Oregon, WA, Maryland. Don’t wait for Texas. Go for jugular.

Dems will have to think more like Republicans. For example, give every red district in IL a slice of Chicago. Only put polling stations deep in Chicago areas. People living out in the sticks have to drive an hour and a half just to get to the polls.

There is no sense in maintaining decorum anymore. Other party simply isn’t playing by the same rules.

Yep. Nobody from the right seems to have any issues with the police lying on sworn statements to try to convict people of felonies they didn't commit and I am sure these guys are still out there kidnapping and illegally arresting people under false charges. Everything working exactly as the Constitution intended.

The woman who Trump was referring to when he said “I think she worked at the spa. I think so. I think that was one of the people. He stole her” was “suicided” earlier this year.

Lots of “suicides” associated with this case. 🤔

They won't acknowledge the lies because they continue to just blindly believe everything the administration says despite it constantly being caught in absurdly blatant lies.
 
Watching the EPA just completely lie and deny some of the most fundamental science out there in order to sell Americans' health and safety out to oil companies should be a historical scandal, but it'll be out of the news in another day. I'm honestly not even sure what to say because just saying what happened is already so cartoonishly evil I don't even know how to comment.

AI is a massively power hungry industry. Both energy and financial resources are being redirected away from public goods and services to the AI industry. We are basically going “all in” on the tech industry’s promise of AI. The fossil fuel industry has promised that they can very quickly increase energy production if pesky environmental regulations are removed. That is the one paragraph synopsis of what is happening.

I said it before the election and I will continue to say it…more than anything else, this was the tech industry AI election. All the other stuff was fluff. Trump is still a pedophile rapist, but the bigger picture is the enormous bet that we are placing on AI. If AI fails to deliver on all its promises then we will be left with a country that has way worse health and wealth disparities than we do now.
 

Who benefits from getting rid of Direct File besides H&R block and other tax prep companies?

It was a popular program from surveys of those who used it. It was a free service for low income W2 Americans. If there is one interaction almost every American has with the Federal government, it's paying your taxes. Republican governance wants to keep that as onerous and opaque a process as possible.

The goal is to keep a service privatized that could be done cheaper and more efficiently if it was a government service. Both parties are not the same. They didn't have to break this.

Ghislaine, pedophile co-conspirator, has been moved to a minimum security prison. Is she about to be pardoned or suicided? Do we think cooperation to make statements clearing the pedophile rapist president is forthcoming? Maybe testimony to conveniently go after rivals? Could this be the modern equivalent of McCarthyism?

We’ll see. Reminder, the administration has now just shown leniency for a sexual offender who trained children how to pleasure old, rich men.

Don’t count on it. The internet, social media, and soon AI has scrambled our brains to the point of no return. The MAGA movement is less about ideology and more about worshipping a personality. MAGA behaves more like a religion than a political movement.

While the initial jobs reports are often inaccurate, the final reports after the subsequent revisions are quite accurate, as they involve more meticulous data collection and cross checking companies’ statements to the IRS. Trump front loaded reports with state+local government hiring data. But the revisions told the reality - numbers falling sharply downward. Now he’s fired the head of labor statistics. Trump wants to use smoke and mirrors to hide the negative impact of bad economic policies and tariffs.

There’s a word for governments that need to fake data, find scapegoats, fire them, and lie every time there’s any bad news they don’t like. Dictatorships. This is how they work. Lying everyday in order to maintain legitimacy.

It does affect everyone materially because it makes the government accountable to no one.. when any entity or set of facts that disagree with the narrative is removed by the dear leader. Pretty easy to see that this is not what we want in our government, politics aside…
