Depends if you are talking clinical hemepath (Elaine Jaffe) or basic science hematology (Staudt) or basic science immunohematology (Kevin Murphy at WashU). What are your career goals?

I have no idea.

It was really just an idle curiousity.

Going by the folks who write the standard texts is often helpful - the WHO hematolymphoid book has 4 authors

Jaffe, E.S.,
Harris. N.L.,
Stein, H.,
Vardiman, J.W.

Vardiman is at U Chi. Harris is at MGH. LADoc already mentioned Jaffe.

Dorfman is also a big name. I interviewed with Dr Aster at the Brigham and he seemed to know what he was talking about. 😉
