I'm pretty sure the answer is probably "no", but thought I'd ask anyways:

Would this course count towards meeting the pre-req requirement of biochemistry for some schools? Or does the course need to be "Introductory to Biochemistry" or "General Biochemistry"?

The course is"
CHEM 30B-01: SURVEY OF ORGANIC & BIOCHEMISTRY (5 UNITS with LAB)- CC course
Description:
Basic principles of organic chemistry and biological chemistry. Topics include organic chemistry nomenclature, functional groups, and an introduction to structure and properties of carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, proteins and enzymes. An overview of metabolism will also be given. Primarily intended for students entering the allied health field including: nursing, dental hygiene, and biotechnology.

On AACOMAS some schools just say they want "any 3 units of biochemistry", etc.

Thanks!

I would classify it as biochemistry if you don't have any biochemistry prerequisites.

I wouldn't double dip, as in classify this class as both organic and biochemistry prerequisites. Choose one or the other.

Thanks for the quick response. I haven't taken the course yet, was planning to this fall. Also, I've been working on a DIY post-bac with retakes. Would you say ADCOMS would prefer that I take the UNE Biochemistry course instead of this one to show academic rigor or would they both be looked at probably the same?

Also, if I put this as a planned course would schools with the pre-req for it still give out a secondary/II if I haven't completed the course yet?

Yes, most schools have something called a provisional acceptance or conditional acceptance, meaning that they will accept you but only if you have completed the prerequisites by the month before you matriculate. Lots of college juniors apply haven't satisfied the prerequisites.

As for UNE biochemistry, I am not sure. Perhaps someone can shed light on this?

OP, the course you're considering taking is one that's usually intended for nursing and dietetics students. It's not as rigorous as an upper-level biochemistry course. UNE Biochemistry would be better preparation for medical school, if you've already graduated and just want to take something before matriculating.

I took this class and 30a (the other survey class) and can say its nothing like the first semester bio chem courses offered it was more of a mash up of some 2nd/3rd semester organic chemistry with a few biochem topics thrown in.

Thank you for the solid advice. Will most likely just put UNE Biochem as my planned courses for the fall instead of this one! Appreciate the insight!
