one stupid thougth.

type O is universal donor and it has no agglutiogens (antigens) but has agglutinis (antibodies)..

when type O is donated to type A which has A antigen and B antibodies, type A will not attack type O because there's no antigen in type O, but type O has antibodies A and B so I think i'll attack type A blood....

what's wrong with my logic?

nothing really. Type O blood doesn't have any antigens, therefore when type O blood is donated to type A blood, the type A blood doesn't recognize it as foreign. However, type O blood has anti-A and anti-B bodies, so if type A blood was donated to type O blood, type A blood would be recognized as foreign and will be rejected.

A will not attack O for sure but why not O attack A? as A will be attacked by O when A donated to O

again, O will kill A when A is donated to O but why is it ok O is donated to A?....if you see those as "mix O and A together" they are the the same thing but different result...what's the missing here?

Thats a little bit different, the body produces antibodies. So if O is inserted to A, there are no antibodies that recognize O, because none are produced.
 
I know this is old but I think its important to state the fact that the antibodies are found in the plasma. When you are donating the blood to someone you are doing so without the plasma containing the antibodies. Type O contains A+B antigens in its plasma but since only its RBC's gets administered (RBC's and Plasma are administered in separate bags) it will prevail as a universal donor because theres no such thing as a type- O antigen.

I just had to clear this up for myself more than anything haha
 
Type O, which has neither A nor B antigens on the surface of the RBC's, but does have both anti-A and anti-B antibodies in the plasma of the blood .....since A or B antigen is not on the surface...it can be donated.
