I'm going away for BOLC this summer and I'm wondering about pay and approximately when do we get it. I tend to plan financially and just like everyone else I have financial responsibility (rent, car payment, etc.). For those people that went away for BOLC in the past how much money did you get? do they give you BAH, separation pay (I'm married), etc?

I'd like to add onto this. I would like to go this summer before med school starts. Is that acceptable to the army? Do we get E-5 pay during BOLC? Also, if I go the summer before med school, does that mean I do ADTs after my first and second years, but not have to go anywhere since I don't do my ADTs at military facilities until after my third year?

Thanks.

You get 2LT pay at BOLC. Yes you will get separation pay while at BOLC (make sure ur spouse is in DEERS). No you do not get BAH during BOLC. You will get paid about 2-4 weeks into BOLC. You will get a $1K advance a few weeks prior to BOLC to obtain uniforms. You can always call the HPSP office with your questions. They are pretty nice there.

sorry to ask this but what is DEERS?

Unless I am mistaken, I thought we only got $600 before BOLC and we would get the remaining $400 when we PCS to our duty station for PGY1. I remember hearing we needed to save the LES showing we got the initial clothing allowance.

You are correct. The UNIFORM ALLOWANCE is $600.00 at the first away ADT like BOLC, with $400.00 when you reach your first duty station. The $600.00 will be on the first deposit after checking into the ADT site.

However, everyone gets a $1,000.00 ADVANCE pay to help pay for uniforms at BOLC. The $600.00 uniform allowance will not be in your pocket until you've been at BOLC for two of the three weeks.

Everyone who attends BOLC will receive 2LT pay with BAH. How much does that amount to? It depends if you have dependents and the zip code of your school. There is a calculator at this site: http://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/site/bah.cfm.

Thanks for the clarification. After thinking about it I do remember getting a $1000 advance and then $600 later on during BOLC.

So if we have to have our spouse registered in DEERS for separation pay, I'm assuming we have to have our children registered as well for us to be classified as "with dependents" for BAH status? My wife and I went to the AFB here and got our green military ID's, does this mean we were registered in DEERS? We didn't do anything for our two kids at that time because I didn't bring all their info (SSN, birth certificates, etc.)

Your spouse should have been entered into DEERS when she got her ID card. Being married is all that is required to be considered as having dependents; however, you'll need to indicate you have dependents when you fill out the separate form for finance that starts your BAH. You also need to get your kids registered in DEERS ASAP because they are not eligible for TRICARE benefits until you've done so.
