Does anyone have experience with the MPH program at Brown? I know they offer some scholarships and assistantships which is great - but I cant really find anyone with any first had information about the program. Thanks!

I found this link from 2008 helpful: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=496991.
I also emailed the school about GRE scores and financial aid/scholarships/assistantships, and below is the reply I received.

"We do not have a minimum GRE. Our admissions committee looks at the whole application, so course work and grades may offset GRE scores and vice versa.

The MPH Program begins on August 26, 2013. Because of the sequencing of courses, there is no alternative start date. All applications received as of January 2 will be considered for financial assistance (including scholarship support and research assistantships). Applications completed between January 2 and May 1 will be reviewed on a rolling, space-available basis and considered for financial assistance if funds remain available. We encourage you to apply early. Applications that are not complete by May 1 will not be considered for admission until the following academic year.

Applications should be completed online through the Brown Graduate School website. Please visit http://www.brown.edu/academics/gradschool/application-information. The following materials are required:
• the online application for admission;
• official transcripts for all undergraduate, graduate, or medical school academic work and GPA;
• three letters of recommendation;
• personal statement of understanding of public health and commitment to pursuing a career in public health. Statement should explain the relevance of education and/or experience to pursue a career in public health;
• Graduate Record Examination (GRE): General test is required except for medical school graduates who may substitute the MCAT. Only the general GRE test is required, though subject scores will be considered if taken;
• a résumé;
• an application fee.
TOEFL or IELTS scores are required of international students unless they attended a college where English was the primary language of instruction. More information for international applicants can be found at http://www.brown.edu/academics/gradschool/application-information/international-applicants

Information on financial assistance can be found at http://publichealth.brown.edu/mph/financial/. International students are considered for all types of program aid.

Thank you for your interest in the MPH Program. If you have any other questions please contact me by phone at (401) 863-2059 or via e-mail."

Hope this helps!

ive always wanted to go to brown.

i remember a sex in the city episode where the brownheaded girl is shocked when the guy she dates is a disgusting slob. she would go, "hes so disgusting...but he went to brown!!!"

haha

Thanks, This has been a huge help. I am looking to apply to this program.

i got an email from brown about an open house in march and april. the email was addressed to "Program Applicants and Prospective Students" so i'm sure they sent it to everyone that applied, but it still made my heart skip when i read it very quickly haha

is anyone planning on going to this? i rsvp'd for the april one just in case i get rejected from them in march or something... then i can just cancel my rsvp to the april open house xD

I am absolutely kicking myself for not applying to Brown. Ivy, tight-knit, cheap... gah.

i got in!! i received an email saying that a decision letter was posted.. checked the PDF that was linked to my application and couldn't believe my eyes 🙂 then another email from diane schlacter followed, detailing costs and things like that. unfortunately it seems like i wasn't chosen for any scholarships.. which is understandable given that i have a low gpa haha.
now i'm really looking forward to checking it out in april!

Congrats! I got in as well - 25% scholarship.

My trouble now is affording it. The scholarship is wonderful, but I have no idea how to pay for this.

congratulations 🙂 the scholarship is wonderful!

yeah honestly i haven't even begun thinking about how to pay for it at this point. =/ also, i'm international so i'm (unfortunately) very used to limited financial support.. 4.5 years of undergrad with out-of-state/international tuition made me kind of numb to the whole thing. which isn't good at all. 🙁

hi
i have a general question. i saw that the mph program is rather small at brown?
with only 88 mph students... or did i misread this?
