I was complete at ucsd on 8/27. Does that mean I should be expecting a rejection letter coming soon since I haven't been put on hold or been invited for an interview yet? I'm hoping they just haven't gotten to my application yet, but if shorty43 was complete on 9/15 and already has a decision, then maybe i'm screwed!?

This process is so random theres no way to know. Grab a good book, some tums, and wait it out.

yeah I think so ... random process with no way to mathematically predict =)

hypothesis testing for acceptance with H_o = luck, and H_a = good scores, high GPA, excellent LOR and Extracurricular activities
seems that the result will let us to accept H_o with P(Type I) = 0.001 ... haha ... just a little mathematical way of saying the process is random (while waiting, we do math) =)

how do they inform you of holds? snail, email, or do you just login to your status to find out.

I haven't heard anything from the UCs also and I completeed my secondaries in the July/August timeframe (August MCATer)

UCSD e-mails you if you are put on hold. UCI just puts it on your status page.

I haven't even heard back from UCSD yet, been complete since mid-Sept. But 2-3 people already got accepted as listed on the Official Acceptance Thread. So for those who interviewed already, be on the look out and good luck.

How did your UCLA interview go UCLAStudent? Hope it went well!!

Hi Uegis ... UCLA didn't go as well as I had hoped (see my sob story in the 2005 application discussion thread), but hopefully it will all work out. I am speaking with the dean today to explain what happened. I just think I deserve a fair shot at UCLA just like everyone else! 🙂

those of you who were accepted to UCSD, what does your status page say? I had interview there in september, and mine now says "final decision letter sent" on my status page. it has been sent 3 days ago, just wondering if thats a good news... and was it the big/small envelope?

it should be coming today, i hope...

i77ac, I believe you can call UCSD if the final decision letter has been sent. Someone else on SDN called and found out some good news. 🙂 Good luck!

Awww ... that stinks. 👎 🙁 🙁 I am so sorry!! Don't give up, yet! I have faith in you!

got the big news from UCSD. looks like small envelop can bring good news afterall. good luck all!

👍 on the acceptances.

Sucks to be waitlisted. Its not over yet though!

very true. you have to keep the hope--if you've been doing it for 4 years of college (or more), another 6 months will have to go the same.

i keep telling myself this! good luck all :luck:

Mother F'er.. oh wow!! Sorry bout the language!! You'll get in.. you've got the best personality.. I'm sure you're stellar everywhere else too!!

yeah, doctormalki... you're a good person and i'm sure you'll get in. remember than they take 50% of the interviewees but only take a few right off the bat. don't give up yet, i'm counting on you! 👍

Constructor's right, DoctorMalki. Most schools interview a lot of people early in the season but just can't accept them all at once. There will be a lot of waitlist movement, especially around May 15. I know it's a major bummer, though. 🙁

i got waitlisted at uci, what bitches! hey people with acceptances, are you withdrawing at safety schools and the like? what is the proper philosophy on this?

sorry to hear that, but you got into san diego right? (i thought i saw it on the acceptance thread yesterday).

as for withdrawing, absolutely yes! if you're into a school you like, then there is no point at all holding on to an interview or even waiting for one if you know that you won't attend, and it not only gives other applicants a chance, but also puts any weight off your shoulders.

hey i think we met at the irvine interview, your name is eric right? anyway nice work on la and davis interviews. who cares about irvine at the end of the day, really....

wow, ppl are already hearing back f rom the ucs. congratulations to all the ppl with acceptances, and to those with waitlists, keep your head up! its still realy early, and waitlists could have a lot of movement later on.

my question is, did anyone apply to the JMP (ucsf-ucb)? if yes, has anyone heard back from them yet, either positive or negative?

i did haven't heard anything yet...complete 9/13

awww thanks UCLAstudent, Calstudent. PremedAdAg and constructor !! You guys are simply the best !! Thank you for all your support and encouragement. I am doing fine now... gotta fight on rt ? !! 👍 I guess I will be going to the finch interview after all lol

Anyone know if UCLA offers student hosting for interviews? I have one coming up in a few weeks and there wasn't anything about it in the packet they sent - just wondering....

Sorry to hear about being waitlisted at UCI. At least you've got SD! When was your interview? I thought they told us they didn't send notifications until november 15.

Doctor Malki...I'm sure you know this but they take people off the waitlist like into July (my friend got in off waitlist in June so don't give up hope)

Thanks lakersfan 😀 ... I am still very hopeful... this process is so random anything can happen at any time 🙂

damn! u mean they wait until all the interviews have been conducted, then they look at the waitlisted?

i'm guessing that's the case because they said that VERY few people get in off the waitlist before may 15. it makes sense because they want to fill up the class with at least X spots by may 15 and then take people off a ranked waitlist after that as people from that pool of X withdraw their acceptances.

passthesashimi said:

no they told us that the people on waitlist get reviewed periodically when the adcoms meet and can be taken off then too.... I am not sure how many but its possible.

passthesashimi said:

I'm not too sure about that . For example, lets say a school intend on a class size of 80. They will play it safe and only accept maybe 100 thinking 60 will come and then they will go through the waitlist and take the students until they get up to that 80th one. It seems med schools are very stringent in limiting the number of people in their class unlike college where there is a ballpark number but not an intended limit.

yeah, you're right... i definitely remember her saying that, but she also added that the vast majority of movement in the waitlist is after may 15. but i'm guessing there's going to be a LOT of movement because their best applicants (whom i'm guessing they accept earliest) would probably go to higher ranked schools instead. also, ucsd is now almost as expensive as private schools so that'll also be a factor. who knows? i'll find out in a couple of weeks about whether i'm in or waitlisted... let's hope for both of our sakes that there won't be that much waiting involved... 😉

how much is tution at ucsd now?

at the interview, they said that tuition plus room plus board is about $42,000 per year. the tuition is only a little more than half of that (which is still high and rising compared to previous years), but living in that area is so expensive compared to almost any other medical school living situation that these extraneous expenses become important. well.. at least for me. if i get in, it won't be a no-doubter even though it's a great school because i'm poor.

yeah that's how it is at davis ...38,000-42,000

wait so are tuition prices going up at all uc grad schools? I know hte MBA program here at Berkeley is trying to make itself independent of california state funding (and thus the subsequent tuition hikes) but the numbers being posted for UC's almost make it comparable to a private school like usc.

does USC email or send snail mail to tell you your application is completed? I just saw all 4 boxes (letter of rec, sec app, fee received, and amcas) all checked off on my status page? Does it mean my app was completed?

I'm sure they emailed me that they got my fees/letters of recs in separate emails. I'm not sure if they emailed saying the file was complete.

yeah the tuition is still around 20,000 ... the figure I quoted was total expense

I'm off to UCSF tomorrow! Hopefully I will have better luck than I did with UCLA. 😉

it's expected to be slightly over $24,000 for next year according to that same person.
