I am new in this forum. I am applying across the country. I received secondaries from all the UC's and I interviewed at UCLA and UCSF. I still working on my secondaries for UCI, UCDavis, Drew, UCSD. I am taking my time to make sure the essays are written fairly well. Best wishes for everyone and hope for the best. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Hi, ucla09! When did you interview at UCLA and UCSF? I was just at both of those places. Maybe we were there on the same day. 😉

add one more to the tally...interviewed on 10/11, and nothing new on the status page.

Ah, okay. I was at UCLA on Oct. 28 and UCSF on Nov. 2. 😀 Did you like the schools?

I think both school are really cool. I loved the UCSF medical library on Parnassus. It was incredible to sit in front of the big window and watch the entire scenery. But other than that I think it is just any normal medical school.

I loved UCLA. They have great programs that I am really interested in. The enrichment and outreach program is fantastic. I will definitely need the support when I start medical school. That is of course if I get in.

Did you get to see UCSF's anatomy lab? It has the same view as the library. 😎

I have no idea what I would pick if I were fortunate enough to get into both schools!

how many ppl were at interview day at UCSF?

I was there on a very "light" day, so only four people were in my group. I believe that 10-ish is typical.

I was the ONLY one there! Kind of intimidating. They bused me 20 min to SF General for an interview and the guy didn't show. But the staff really took care of me other than that. fingers crossed.....

So I just recieved an application for Drew and was wondering who else out there has tackled this bear of an app lately? Any advice on the who to have send in the personal LOR? My supervisor from the job I've worked at over the last few years has written me one and we've definately become friends so I'm hoping that will qualify...

got a question about uc davis. is it true that like northwestern that they block your access to the status page if you're rejected?

Yeah. I can no longer log in. Since Davis e-mails the rejection, they get away with it better than Northwestern since there's no lag time with the snail mail.

I just got another UC rejection . . . Irvine. It's nice that they contacted me about it . . . OH WAIT! No they didn't! I had to logon to my status page and see the "Admission denied" box. Jerks. I wonder if they're going to send a letter later or something. Oh well. I still have 5 schools who might give me secondaries. *Stay positive. Just stay positive.*

Read on the Stanford thread that MD applicants get interviews in January. Does anyone know if this is true?

For those with recent interviews, are you MD or MD/PhD?

PS to UC's: I'M WAITING... :luck:

yea that one took a while! they really make you think for some of those questions...i had my employer of 3 years send out my personal LOR. it worked out cause shes an ARNP-C at the health center I worked at and she knew how set i was on med school...i havent heard of anyone getting an interview though...i really wonder how long theyll take!

I just got my secondary from Drew early this week. I sent it out yesterday. I talked to my pre-med advisor, and she told me the committee letters that I have are fine. My undergrad school has sent about 11 students since the 80s so I assume its fine.

I wonder when I will hear from them next. It took over 2 months to recieve the secondary.

so i know ucla takes a long time to second out secondaries/interview invites /make decisions etc, but does anyone know when they expect to meet and when we should be hearing (my interviewer just told me a really really long time)?

thanks!!

I don't think so. Mine has been the same ever since i submitted my sec too (mid October).

Got a phone call in the morning with UCI acceptance, I will withdraw (actually already did).. but it is very nice to be accepted somewhere in CA. Good luck to everybody! :luck:

January 15, to be precise. I want to know NOW! 😡 I sound like a three-year-old.

im really mad, i checked my stanford status page and they have yet to recieve my letters of rec. my school's file service sent them on sept 27, and i completed my secondary sept. 25. is this my fault or theirs? i didnt check the website till now but my file service worked like a charm for 21/22 schools. can i bitch and moan to them to get reviewed, once my friggin letters get in, when i would have been reviewed based on my complete date, or am i in the back of the line with all the august mcat kids? advice please.

and as a sidenote, why is that damn texas med thread always third down when us cali kids are on the fourth page? superfluous posts, please. represent!

speaking of superflous posts, was i the only person that found bubchik's "i want to sell my irvine acceptance" thread absolutely revolting. way to class this place up, bubchik. if only we could all start threads to insult 1/3 of the site's viewership and get the other 2/3 to congratulate us on our hopkins acceptance....

it was quite clear that she was just kidding. if you like uc irvine so much that you were extremely bothered by her comments, that's another story. i don't feel the same way, so i thought it was funny. why would someone who got into hopkins want to go to irvine, anyway?

I thought it was pretty funny. I can see how it would be offensive, though. I think it's even funnier that she sent a withdrawal letter the day before getting the acceptance phone call!

Yeah, but if you've got a snowball's chance in hell getting into hopkins and the UCs are all a bit of a reach, I could definitely see how "wanna buy my worthless irvine acceptance?" would be a bit upsetting...

im not implying that she was serious, its just an arrogant and pompous thing to do. i withdrew from irvine, have no particular love for the place. sdn is weighted pretty heavily to super competitive applicants but there seems to be respect for people whose hopkins acceptance isnt a foregone conclusion and thats how it should be. be tactful about getting into cool places and dont lord your multiple acceptances over people, this seems like common sense to me. or, you know, we could all start threads to **** on non top 50 schools and jokingly offer those kids without 43t's that they can buy our uneeded acceptances with gmail invites. that would be kickass too.

Well said. 👍

I don't think she meant anything bad by it. I was a bit surprised to see that someone would write that when there are a lot of people waitlised post-interview and a lot of people like me who will probably not even get an interview because we are stuck on that infamous pre-interview "hold." I think it would have worked better for her if she just said "I'm so happy I got into UCI..." but she was probably just caught up in the moment and reallye excited so I don't think its too big of a deal. Thus, I have no hard feelings...just my $.02

Constructor hit it right on.

I don't get why people are so infatuated with uci.

Personally, I'm pretty annoyed with them.

I would be happy to go there since its 30 minutes from home for me. Howeverf, for a school that is not even top 50, why should we even care so much. I think it's better to focus your effort on schools like USC or UCSD than uci whose admissions office always acts as if they have a stick up their A@#.

I actually chose UCI over Hopkins. Location, cost, and comfort were my major deciding factors. I'm not the only one in my class that had to make such a difficult decision, either.

Out of curiosity, did you get into any other UC's except Irvine?

UCi is an awesome school. I would have chosen it in a sec over hopkins if my personal situation was different. The only thing: during interview said to my interviewer that i will NOT got to UCI under no circumstances, I thought that was enough to withdraw (obviously that he did not care that much). I undersatnd the frastration of other people, but it is sooo early in application process and they take tons of people from the waitlist. Again I did not mean to offend anybody and if I could I would delete this thread. I will e-mail moderators if i could do it. I just wanted to chear up people who are waiting for UCs: they are slow, not thorough with applicants, so if you express a real interest in them they will have to accept you, b/c not everybody wants to stay in CA.
Why I interviewed at Irvine?- B/c my husband graduated from there (MD), so I coud not turn down their invitation.

How slow is UCLA and UCSD? These are the only schools I haven't gotten a rejection or secondary from. They had my AMCAS back in July, but were waiting for my August scores (I had April scores, so my application was technically complete). The other UC's have since rejected me (exept UCSF . . . secondary complete back in Sept.), so I'm wondering what's taking UCLA and UCSD so long. Anyone else waiting to hear from these guys?

Yeah, same boat as you.....except I just got my post-secondary rejection from UCSF in the mail....booooo
No secondaries or anything from UCLA or UCSD....Oh, but I did get a secondary from Drew just last week....there's still some glimmer of hope!

I still have no respect for UCI. The manner in which they handle the admissions process is despicable. Their admissions office acts as if they are the Harvard Med of the west coast (when in reality that would be Stanford or UCSF).

Btw, I was supporting you in saying that you were NOT out of line in posting that thread on selling your UCI acceptance. Congrats on that! 😀

Well that does make me feel better. Are you a Cali resident? I'm not, but I spent 6 years of my adult life there (and, yes, I was a resident at the time). I doubt that will matter to adcoms, but maybe it can give a small edge on the out of state issue. I'm really scared to check my mail now. When did you get your rejection from UCSF? Not that I haven't been expecting it. I was shocked to even get a secondary, but then someone told me that they will use your GPA to calculate your "expected" MCAT score and give you a secondary based on that. I'm quite confident that my actual score came no where near their calculation, so I've been expecting a rejection since the August scores were posted. Oh well. I suppose there's still some hope. Good luck with UCLA and UCSD. Hopefully we'll hear something soon! 🙂 :luck:

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if UCLA requires transcripts from undergraduate institutions be sent to their admissions office as part of the supplemental/secondary application? I don't remember them mentioning this in their "you received a secondary" letter, but when I went to look at my application status on their webpage, they had a column named "transcripts." Any help would be appreciated! I hope I'm not too late!

Thanks!

I don't think so. AMCAS should send it in with your primary application. My application at UCLA is complete and all I sent them was my letter of recs (the secondary essays/money payment are all online).

As for being late...I really dunno. I submitted mid-October and thought I was late but I think the people who use SDN are a step or two ahead of everyone else in the game (there are a bunch of brilliant people on this forum!!!)
