Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if UCLA requires transcripts from undergraduate institutions be sent to their admissions office as part of the supplemental/secondary application? I don't remember them mentioning this in their "you received a secondary" letter, but when I went to look at my application status on their webpage, they had a column named "transcripts." Any help would be appreciated! I hope I'm not too late!

Thanks!

you are asked to send a transcript when you get an interview invite. i had an official transcript included with my diploma and sent that, seemed to work fine.

im really mad, i checked my stanford status page and they have yet to recieve my letters of rec. my school's file service sent them on sept 27, and i completed my secondary sept. 25. is this my fault or theirs?

i called the admin office, they were super cool. there was some problem at the end of sept. with the letters recieved being scanned. they said they dont know who was affected, so if you submitted stanford letters toward the end of sept CHECK YOUR AP STATUS AND CALL TO CORRECT, or else youre screwed!

So I'm in "pre-interview hold" land at San Diego, Irvine and probably Davis too. I've been thinking about ways in which to be pro-active, like sending a letter of interest with updates and stuff. I was also thinking about sending more letters of recommendation. Do you think it would help? It can't hurt right, so why not?

I called UCSD to see if I was going to be getting a secondary and here is the answer I received:

The next batch of secondaries will be going out at the beginning of December. This will be the final batch. If you don't get one by the middle of December, you won't be getting one this year.

At least we'll have some closure from UCSD (and save $60 - you've got to look at the bright side).

Sweeeeet, thanks for finding this out.
UCSD is over rated anyway, going there for undergrad was enough 😉

Hi, I've mostly been lurking here...but I'm in the same boat as a lot the Cali applicants - waiting on the UC's and a little stressed out about it! But I was wondering whether anyone has heard anything from USC lately??? I've been complete there for a month and a half...but not a peep from them. Thanks!

I keep wondering about them too. I've sent them a couple of emails and even called and I think that's about all I can do without seeming too desperate! I'm really anxious to hear from them though so if any of you out there get a reply soon keep us neurotics posted!

Thanks Code Brown! I wonder if they're going to send rejection letters, or are you just to "assume" you've been rejected if you haven't received a secondary? Oh well. I guess I'll just wait for December.

Has anyone else gotten rejected from UCI? I'm just wondering if they send any kind of letter. I checked my status page and it said "admission denied," but I haven't heard anything from them. You'd think they'd send some kind of letter to tell you you're not being considered. What if you didn't check your status page? Whatever.

Good luck everyone! :luck:

I just talked to the UCLA admissions office today. when you get your interview invite, they also want you to send in undergrad transcripts (in addition to amcas). what a pain, huh???

boooo. I just got the email. They're the first UC to contact me since my app was complete. 🙁

Yeah, that stinks, but a lot of us are in the same situation, if it makes you feel better. I've pretty much given up hope on UCSD and UCI.

I don't know much since UCSD hasnt contacted met yet and UCI already put me on hold...

but for what it is worth, I think a pre-interview hold at UCSD is better than a pre-interview hold at UCI. One guy I know was put on preinterview hold at UCSD and then was interviewed and has already been accepted in this app cycle.

At UCI, I don't think I've heard of anyone being put on preinterview hold and recieving an interview thus far in this application cycle (and for UCI, if you are put on preint hold, they don't even inform you...you have to check via their application status page).

As for UCLAStudent, I think those UC's who haven't interviewed her are idiots since she already has interviews at far better institutions.

And for what its worth, even though I'm out of state OHSU gave me an interview while UCI put me on hold...go figure!

uci's having issues and i don't think they really know what they're doing. since they haven't accepted all that many people yet, i'm guessing that they're going to interview lots of people in the second cycle and i'm sure people like uclastudent who got interviews at these other schools will get one at uci later on. that only makes sense... right?

i interviewed at uci in september with a couple of other sdn'ers, and i got the idea that everybody at the interview had stats that were out of uci's ballpark, and it sounds like the majority of those people got waitlisted (myself included). i have no idea what uci is up to. the adcom at my interview said people with sept interviews almost universally get multiple acceptances, so my guess is that they interviewed a lot of people early, waitlisted the majority of them, and are going to wait for withdrawals from this bunch. i imagine they will get more aggressive with the interviewing and accepting in '05...

almost seems like it goes against you to have an early interview at UCI. a surgical resident in my lab who went to UCI told me that some people prefer to turn in their application later, after the first batch is done, so they don't get compared with the very cream of the crop. now i'm wondering of the validity of that kind of thinking...

I just got an interview invite at Irvine. I am going to try to not overanalyze it based on the comments above, because it would just make me insane.

All the applicants I know that Irvine's put on hold have stats that blow their averages out of the water, are instate, have interviewed at places like Yale, Wash U, gotten into other UCs and places like U Mich, Irvine is ****ooo.

I must say this much...of all the schools people talk about on SDN, it seems people have the most vicious (I'm one of them) things to say about UCI...their admissions office really needs to get their act together.

I know friends from couple years ago who heard back really early on--is 12/15 really the earliest date they send out letters?

I think Irvine is just being realistic when they screen out the cream of the crop that most likely won't attend there. However, the way in which they are doing it is completely backwords in my opinion. If anything, these people should be placed on interview hold until the last few months and then offered interviews if they haven't withdrawn yet due do getting into a school higher on their list.

That kind of makes sense (although my numbers aren't in that out-of-uci's-ballpark category). Both of my interviewers asked me several times if I was really planning on going there if accepted and why I wouldn't go somewhere else.

I talked to a student who used to be on UCI's admissions committee last applicaiton cycle and she told me they interview those who they really want to accept early on...and that they accept more of them out of the group. But apparently this is not the case here. I'm on the alternate list too... 😕

I was interviewed at UCSD on 10/11. Anyone knows how long it takes for the final decision to come? I heard someone say 1 month, but no news yet. Thanks.

I completed all the secondaries for all the state UC schools early Aug. I have not heard no rejection nor interview invitation from the rest except one rejection from UCSF.

i interviewd 10/7 as i recall, heard back in 3 weeks. they said it depends on when your interviewer submits their evaluaton, when you get reviewed at adcom meetings. they didnt indicate how frequent these adcom things are. check your status page, itll tell you when your decision letter is sent. or call, the admissions people are pretty friendly and helpful

Ditto....although, some fluke scored me an interview at Irvine next month...

Was that a pre or post-secondary rejection from UCSF? Also when? Thanks.

Hello all,

Just wanted to share that I got a call from UCI today of my acceptance. I think they're going to be calling more people tomorrow. Keep your hopes up!

I posted this in another thread, but thought it would be appropriate to post it here as well.

just got word from highly placed 'sources' that both UCI and UCSD are holding important ADCOM meetings in the next few days on interview invite decisions. By thanksgiving they will have made a decision on a boatload of applicants whether they're worthy of invites or not. If you've been complete at either school for over 6 weeks, then stay tuned and get ready to start checking your email boxes continuously.
good luck to all!

Oh, really? I wonder if this applies to people on hold.

it's possible. its been pretty common for people to be taken off of hold at ucsd so there is a definite possibility of that.
my sources also tell me that some administrative bickering is behind uci's erratic admissions behavior so far. i look for that to cleared up by the beginning of the new year and some people who are currently on hold to be taken off hold and invited for interview. its too early to tell definitively when that's going to happen though.

I got a call too! Funny because I thought my faculty interview went horribly. It was the first interview he ever did and he asked ME, so what kind of questions do they usually ask you at interviews? what is the mcat out of, 45? oh you're interested in community health? you're gonna have a horrible and frustrating career.

oh well i guess he wrote me a good eval anyway but uci needs to prep their interviewers a little better.

Long_John, I can verify your UCI info. I talked to someone today who said that there is a bunch of political stuff going on at UCI. This person is someone whom I trust (very tied into UCI).

oh I should send out my update letter to UCI last week!!!!! hopefully they will call me for the interview!!!!

has anyone heard from davis lately?
i remember them telling us we should hear back from them within 4-6 weeks of the interview date...it's been almost two months and still no word.

btw, congrats on uci i77ac!!

anyone heard from USC lately? seems that USC is pretty quiet recently (well, don't see too many comments on this forum)

havent' heard anything since secondary... 🙁

i'm waiting too. it's so hard b/c i think this one is going to be my first choice. oh i hope i don't get rejected. anyway, i emailed terri today and asked if i'd find out by thanksgiving. i pushed back my ohsu interview to middle december so i could avoid buying that plane ticket if i get in. she said that i probably won't hear back by thanksgiving but soon after that.

now i'm still mulling over buying the ticket. i hear ohsu is very homogenous. is it true?

you should buy that ticket now. it should be cheap. try cheaptickets.com. you might be able to get something for 200. if you wait then it will get a lot more expensive due to Holiday traveling. UCD can take a very long time to get back to you.

Give it 4 full weeks after the interview, if nothing is heard, buy the tickets.

If by homogenous you mean a lack of student diversity, then, yes, it's true. The school is working on that, though. Interestingly, they now require that all students do a clerkship in an underserved/rural area. I thought that was kind of nice.

does davis have a ranked waitlist. If not, how do they do it?
