Campus Visits?

Hey everyone,
I was wondering what y'all thought about making campus visits to schools you are applying to prior to having interviews. I remember when I was busy applying to colleges for undergrad. that a lot of "How to get into college" books recommended making campus visits because doing so showed you were genuinely interested in their school. I know that when I interview I will have the opportunity to see campuses and experience the atmosphere, etc. So is there a point to making a visit before then? Did anyone already accepted to optometry schools do this, and do you think it enhances your application at all? Is anyone applying this year considering doing this? Thanks!

I never went to a school to visit before my first interview. The main reason was because I was/am still a poor financially strapped student (i'm on my own, since my family is more poor than dirt). If you're able to afford the cost flying/traveling all over the country, then you might as well. I had a 4.0 gpa and 370 OAT, I was pretty sure I was going to gain acceptance to an OD school. If you're wondering I turned down medical school because the field of Optometry was more attractive to me. Denistry wasn't in my future, and counting pills all day as a pharmacist didn't look attractive to me either.

I didn't bother visiting any schools for the similar reasons. I figure I was gonna see the school anyway when interview comes around. I just applied to places I could possibily see myself and went from there.

I personally don't think it enhances your application by much at all...so save your money if that is the sole reason you would visit schools. You might consider visiting schools if you just can't make up your mind where to apply...which in that case, might be just cheaper to apply to them all instead of fly all over the country.

If they are close by, then go for it.
