Good question. Hi everyone, I'd like to tell you all about something that's very important, and that's proper form while performing weightlifting exercises. Now, if you're anything like me, you spend a pretty healthy chunk of time on any given week in a gym, trying to get stronger and more in shape. But are you truly making the most of your time and getting the maximum results from your workout? Many people aren't, but don't even know it. This is because of very common mistakes regarding form.
First off, always keep your back straight, no matter what exercise you're doing. Letting your back round while attempting to move a heavy amount of weight is a very easy way to move a disc or two out of place, which can have painful consequences. Also, while it's good to go heavy, since strength is what we're aiming for, don't go so heavy that you can't properly perform the exercise. If you find that you've selected a weight that is too heavy, stop, reduce the weight to something that you're more comfortable with, and then try again. Cheating with your form is only acceptable to get one or two more reps in at the completion of your last set.
